Tens of thousands of zombie creatures have gathered into a terrifying giant tumor over a thousand meters high, protecting the pyramid's base below. Even Austin's full-force electromagnetic cannon couldn't break through the tumor's defense.
Watching that massive, sticky tumor constantly squirming, in no time, the large gap blown out by the previous electromagnetic cannon was completely restored.
Meanwhile, passages slowly surfaced at the bottom, and those zombie creatures began to haul building materials through the passageways like ants. Austin realized that he no longer had the means to destroy the pyramid's base.
"These zombies, including that pyramid, probably don't have intelligence and can only make instinctual responses to external dangers."
After observing for so many days, Austin had some guesses about the endless zombies and the pyramid base.
These zombies, along with the pyramid they're building, should be some kind of biological weapon, either plundering some life-like source from the earth or infecting it, directed by the mutated evil spirit lurking behind.
Or rather, these zombies, and the pyramid that controls everything, are specially designed biological weapons to achieve such a purpose!
Once the land is eroded by the pyramid's mysterious force, it becomes wasteland, where only zombies and some cursed, twisted mutant plants can survive.
"Before the pyramid is truly completed or armed with attack methods, it's my only chance to stop the zombie plague from spreading!"
The situation is critically severe. If the pyramid is allowed to complete and another wave of expansion erupts, the Dragon Nest Tribe will undoubtedly be within the expanding range of the zombie creature army.
Unless they completely relocate and flee, if they become surrounded by the zombie creature army, the only outcome is total annihilation.
"But at this stage, the strongest single-target attacking force, the electromagnetic cannon, is of little use."
Gazing at the shadow where the massive tumor looms, Austin's heart sank.
The giant tumor not only didn't dissipate with the cessation of the attack but instead, like a fungal plant, rooted itself in the soil, enfolding the entire pyramid base.
But materials collected by zombie creatures still continuously enter from the holes beneath the tumor, confirming that construction of the pyramid base inside the tumor continues unabated.
The earlier electromagnetic cannon shot made Austin realize that his attacks hardly affected the tumor.
Although one electromagnetic cannon blew away a fifth of the tumor, within ten seconds, the massive fusion of zombie creatures allowed the tumor to rapidly regrow to its previous state, while its outer slime started turning into a gel, hardening into a sticky black outer shell.
This eerie phenomenon reminded Austin of the words attack and evolution.
That tumor may not just be a collection of zombie creatures but a type of organism, one that evolves in response to attacks!
After being attacked by Austin's electromagnetic cannon, that composite tumor evolved a gelatinous shell on its surface to weaken the cannon's attack.
At the same time, inside the tumor, the zombie creatures operating like cells of its body were merged and liquefied into a viscous mass, with bone-white ant-like skeletons densely studding the tumor's surface. One even saw gruesome scenes of half-melted skulls gaping and wriggling.
The tightly compressed viscous mass, like dough, made Austin's electromagnetic cannon less effective.
This seems like an unsolvable situation.
The more it is attacked, the more that grotesque tumor evolves until Austin's electromagnetic cannon has no effect whatsoever.
"Damn it, the electromagnetic cannon is useless. Do I really have to prepare for evacuation?"
The electromagnetic cannon is Austin's most powerful attack technique at present.
Other than the electromagnetic cannon, no matter how hard he racked his brain, Austin couldn't think of a way to resolve the tumor problem, leaving him quite upset.
After years of struggles, Austin had built a substantial foundation within the Dragon Nest Territory.
He had established a Dragon Nest Tribe base of small city scale, nearly ten thousand acres of cultivated farmland, expanding mushroom houses, fish breeding boxes, livestock ranches, a Copper Mine Base, and, just recently, a Wet Bone Forest that had been cleared, providing the tribe with abundant Snake Shedding Grass and Water Patterned Demon Iron Ore.
This hard-earned land wealth cannot accompany the tribe in an evacuation, inevitably having to be abandoned, which would be a significant blow to the tribe's development.
"No, there's still a way!"
A flash of determination passed through Austin's pupils. The electromagnetic cannon is his strongest attack technique to date, but that doesn't mean it will always be so.
After nearly three months of sleep, Austin awoke and activated his fourth Talent Magic, conceiving a direction for developing an ability that might reach Forbidden Curse Level.
"Originally, I planned to develop Spherical Lightning later, but now it appears I must accelerate the development process!"
Once that attack capability rivals a Forbidden Curse is completed, possessing the power to fission and decompose at a molecular level, no matter how strong the tumor's regenerative abilities, it will perish under Spherical Lightning!
Gazing deeply at the dense horde of zombie creatures and the towering tumor in the distance, Austin turned and quickly flew away.
The pyramid, only having completed a hundred-meter base, would take at least two to three months to finish. During this time, Austin could complete the development of Spherical Lightning.
The only trouble is, cold winter is about ten days away...
As Austin left, neither the giant tumor nor the zombie army showed any reaction, just like the initial two or three days, allowing Austin to continually fly high for reconnaissance without any response.
They behaved as if specified by simple programming, unable to contemplate or retaliate, only passively defending until the pyramid's attack methods are fully constructed.
After Austin's departure, there was no change in the zombie creatures; they continued collecting and transporting large amounts of building materials into the pyramid from the tunnels below the tumor.
And that tumor stood quietly on the ground, motionless, like a blood-flesh-grown builder's nest construct, with zombies transporting materials in and out tirelessly.
Inside the tumor, the half-melted zombie creatures forming the tumor mass continued writhing...
