"Fragments of the Ancient Transmission Array? What are they?" Xiao Ling was puzzled for a moment, looking at Ye Tianchen with curious eyes.
Black lines appeared on Ye Tianchen's forehead; it was indeed futile to explain to Xiao Ling. Although Xiao Ling had always lived in this Penglai Ancient Martial World, which was filled with many mythical "immortal" tales, she had been an orphan since childhood. At the age of eight, she started living independently, never having her mother by her side. Simply surviving was already remarkable. Thus, Xiao Ling had no martial arts cultivation—just a healthy body—and naturally knew little about the martial world and martial artists.
However, seeing Xiao Ling's serious face along with her efforts to recover emotionally, unlike her previous desolate state, Ye Tianchen smiled and said, "Earth is actually a world of cultivation. It's just that after billions of years of evolution, it has developed into its current state. On Earth, only the Song Mountain Ancient Martial World, the Heavenly Ancient Martial World, and the Penglai Ancient Martial World remain. Within this vast galaxy we're in is a Martial Arts World, but because the transmission arrays linking Earth to the outside world were destroyed, we cannot perceive the true Martial Arts World."
"So you're searching for fragments of the Ancient Transmission Array to reassemble them, leave Earth, and see what the true Martial Arts World is like?" Xiao Ling asked.
"Yes, people always have dreams and goals. For us martial artists, pursuing the peak power of martial arts, ultimately attaining immortality, is the eternal goal. There's no reason—if there are immortals to be, one should seek to become! " Ye Tianchen nodded.
After pondering for a while, Xiao Ling looked at Ye Tianchen and said, "I see, you came to Penglai Fairy Island because of the ancient transmission array fragments, and you also want to see if this place is truly like the legends, an Immortal Realm!"
"You're quite clever," Ye Tianchen shook his head with some disappointment, "You got it right, but this Penglai Fairy Island is disappointing. It's not an Immortal Realm at all—there isn't even a trace of the fantasy of immortals in my heart. It's just a desolate, undeveloped wilderness!"
At this moment, Xiao Ling rolled her eyes at Ye Tianchen, then stood up on the tree trunk, gazing into the distance. Of course, with her vision, she couldn't see that far, so she pointed in a general direction and said, "See that over there? That's the true Land of Fairyland—Buzhou Mountain!"
"Buzhou Mountain? Is there really such a mountain on Penglai Fairy Island?" Ye Tianchen was genuinely surprised. His sister, Ye Qianwen, had once told him some ancient Chinese myths, which included "Buzhou Mountain." How could there be a "Buzhou Mountain" on this Penglai Fairy Island?
"Yes, it's always been there. That's the real Land of Fairyland. Not all places in the Penglai Ancient Martial World are like this. Only that place is, but I'd advise you not to take risks or get close to it..." Xiao Ling said, with a worried look at Ye Tianchen.
"Why?" Ye Tianchen asked, puzzled.
"Because I accidentally heard some martial artists mention that ten years ago, there was unrest near Buzhou Mountain, like a major earthquake. It seemed something was about to emerge, which attracted many powerful legacies to investigate. In the end, several of the Supreme Elders of these legacies went to Buzhou Mountain to see what was coming out, but only one returned alive, and that person was already insane, shouting to the sky before perishing in both body and soul!" Xiao Ling spoke with some fear.
"What? The Supreme Elders of several major legacies all died?" Ye Tianchen couldn't help but mutter in shock.
After hearing Xiao Ling's words, Ye Tianchen couldn't help but be astonished. In the three Ancient Martial Worlds that exist on Earth today, those sects and cultivation families with ancient legacies rely on a group of old timers who cling to life. These old folks, in many ways, preserve their last breath. They are the cornerstone of these legacies. Never underestimate these old folks; despite being on the brink of death, if they decide to strike, it's with violent ferocity, risking everything. Most people are no match for this group. Within these cultivation sects and families, the Supreme Elder is the highest rank. To this day, there are only a few legacies within Earth's three Ancient Martial Worlds that still have Supreme Elders, who have lived for at least thousands of years and have some standing in the Martial Arts World. Could such experienced individuals have low cultivation?
"Yes, they all died. These Supreme Elders were people from powerful legacies within the Penglai Ancient Martial World. It was due to the unrest at Buzhou Mountain that they emerged, otherwise they wouldn't have appeared in the Ancient Martial World. But on the day they went, they all died. The next morning, only one Supreme Elder returned, completely unharmed but behaving like a madman, shouting at the outskirts of Buzhou Mountain, and suddenly transforming into a puff of blood mist. It's terrifying..." Xiao Ling recounted the story she heard to Ye Tianchen.
Ye Tianchen frowned, wondering if the "Buzhou Mountain" here in the Penglai Ancient Martial World might be related to the "Buzhou Mountain" of Chinese mythology. These Supreme Elders from the Penglai Ancient Martial World had been in a place rumored to have seen immortals. They were likely more formidable than those from the other two ancient worlds. Even they met such a dire fate; what truly exists within Buzhou Mountain?
"Shouting? What did the last Supreme Elder to die say?"
"There are really immortals, there are really immortals, there are really immortals..." Xiao Ling said solemnly.
Ye Tianchen was stunned. He truly hadn't expected that something like this would happen—the last Supreme Elder to escape from "Buzhou Mountain" shouted "There are really immortals" three times before perishing in both form and spirit. This was indeed strange, and this "Buzhou Mountain" in Penglai Ancient Martial World—could it be the same as the "Buzhou Mountain" in Chinese mythology, or is there some connection?
In the mythical tales passed down through thousands of years in China, the story of Buzhou Mountain revolves around Gonggong and Zhuanxu's struggle for the throne, and the legend of angrily ramming into Buzhou Mountain:
Legend has it that Zhuanxu was Emperor Huang's grandson, known as the Gao Yang clan, residing in Diqiu. Clever and astute, he was esteemed among the people and governed a vast territory—stretching north to present-day Hebei, south beyond the southern ranges, west to present-day Gansu, and east to islands in the East Sea. The ancient histories depict that wherever he surveyed, he was warmly welcomed by the local tribes.
However, Zhuanxu also enacted some unreasonable measures. One such law decreed that women must avoid men when encountered on the road, failing which they'd be beaten at crossroads. Although this law is said to be a legend, it illustrates that during Zhuanxu's times, due to changes in production modes, men became dominant in clans, and women's status fell below men's, signaling the transition to a patrilineal society with men's societal authority established.
During Zhuanxu's era, another leader of a tribe was Gonggong. He was said to have a human head and snake body, with fiery red hair, riding two dragons.
Gonggong was reportedly surnamed Jiang, a descendant of the Yan Emperor, with his tribe in what is now northern He Nan. He placed great emphasis on agriculture and was diligent about water management, inventing methods of embankment and water storage. At that time, humanity primarily engaged in agriculture, making water crucial. Gonggong, like Shennong before him, was another contributor to agricultural advancements.
Gonggong had a son named Houtu, who was also adept in agriculture. Together, they assessed their tribal lands to improve agriculture, finding some areas too high and labor-intensive for irrigation, while others were too low and prone to flooding. Gonggong devised a plan to level the lands—raise the lowlands to expand farmland and flatten the highlands for better irrigation, aiding agricultural progress greatly.
But Zhuanxu's camp opposed Gonggong's plans. Zhuanxu believed in his supreme authority within the tribe, asserting all must follow his command, and Gonggong couldn't act on his own. Arguing that such actions might incite the heavens' wrath, he resisted Gonggong's initiatives. This led to a fierce struggle between Zhuanxu and Gonggong, ostensibly over land and water management but fundamentally over tribal leadership.
These tales of two legendary martial artists—Zhuanxu and Gonggong—disagreed over certain developmental directions for the Human Clan, determined to outdo one another. Their struggle for leadership was relentless, revealing to Ye Tianchen the inferred power behind these legendary figures. However, the ultimate conclusion of this two martial giants' battle for the throne was unexpected for Ye Tianchen...(To be continued.
