The servant said impatiently, "Go, go, go... This is not a place for you to beg."
"Didn't someone say they were treating?"
"This place is full of strong people. What are you doing here, you old fool! Get out of here right away." The servant impatiently moved to push the beggar out.
"Wait a minute."
The servant looked at Jiang Chen. Jiang Chen stood up and said, "Everyone who comes here is a guest; there's no need to chase them away. Elder, I'll treat you."
The servant looked at Jiang Chen. Is this guy sick? Does he have money to burn?
"But there are no seats?"
"He can sit at my table."
The servant had no choice. Since the man had offered to treat him, he led the old man toward Jiang Chen. The old man used his cane and, after fumbling for a moment, finally found a stool.
Only then did Jiang Chen notice that the elder was blind.
Jiang Chen poured a cup of wine and pushed it in front of the old man. "Drink?"
"Thank you, you're a good person. This is the first time a good person has offered me a drink." The old man reached out his right hand, felt around on the tabletop for a while, and finally found the cup.
"There are quite a few good people in this world. You'll often meet them in the future."
The blind man sighed. "It's rare. I've met so many people, yet only you have offered this old blind man a drink. What a pity..."
"A pity about what?"
"It's a pity that we're not the same kind of people."
"My biggest hobby is to respect the elderly and care for the young." Jiang Chen tore off a piece of meat, placed it in a bowl, and pushed it toward him.
Jiang Chen didn't feel any so-called True Qi. The old man's breathing was steady, and his blood flow was slower than that of a normal person. He was either a great master or impossibly old.
"Senior, how may I address you?"
"Senior? I'm just a blind old man, and you're calling me Senior?"
"What else should I call you, Wanderer?"
"You can call me The Fallen directly."
The surrounding Wanderers stood up in anger.
These words, once uttered, immediately provoked the anger of the Wanderers nearby. The Fallen was a term used only on the Continent of All-Gods; they believed that to abandon the All-Gods was to fall, hence being called The Fallen.
They themselves preferred to be called Wanderers.
They fought for freedom and would never submit to the All-Gods.
"Blind man, you'd better change that term. We are Wanderers."
"You wretched old man, is this a place you should be?"
"This old man is slandering us Wanderers! For one of our own to call himself that... I think it's better to eliminate him."
"You have three breaths to get out of here."
This is the damn martial world for you; often, a single word can lead to drawn swords and death... Jiang Chen had a headache. Are these people crazy? Getting angry at an old man like that.
Jiang Chen coughed. "Today, I'm treating. Everyone, please give me some face and sit down for a drink."
A muscular man approached.
"Since you're treating today, we'll naturally give you face. However, this old man insulted us. He must kneel, apologize, and admit his mistake."
"That's a bit much." Jiang Chen frowned.
"How is that too much? Didn't you hear what he said? He calls himself The Fallen!"
The old man said indifferently, "If I don't call myself The Fallen, what should I call myself? A cat? A dog?"
The middle-aged man flew into a rage.
"You're courting death!"
He swung his Nine-Ring Broadsword directly at the old man. Jiang Chen hadn't expected the man to attack so suddenly. He grabbed the blind man's right hand, yanked him to the side, and the blade lightly grazed the old man's left shoulder.
If it had been just three centimeters closer, the man's entire left shoulder would have been sliced off.
"Stop!"
Everyone looked up to see Jin Yunxi with a grim expression. "No one is to fight in the Cloud End Tavern. Anyone who does knows the consequences."
The middle-aged man's arrogance instantly vanished.
He bowed and scraped. "I'm sorry, so sorry."
"Drink up, drink up."
"Keep drinking. He's just a blind man; no need to bother with him."
"Why make such a fuss and brandish weapons over a mere blind man?"
Jiang Chen shook his head. These people are really something else...
Many Wanderers knew Jin Yunxi's identity. Who would dare to be presumptuous in front of the Heavenly Earth Association? It was one of the five major Wanderer guilds, and also the strongest among them.
Jin Yunxi gave Jiang Chen a cold look and said gruffly, "Jiang Chen, once you've eaten, hurry up and leave."
"I haven't finished eating yet, and you're already chasing us out. Madam, you're being a bit unreasonable."
"Even if you have money, that's not how you should spend it."
"I'm willing to! For the next ten years, all this senior's expenses—food, drink, prostitution, and gambling—are on me!"
Jin Yunxi was so angry she could have spat blood. "This is a tavern, a proper tavern! We don't offer what you mentioned."
"No problem. When the time comes, you can just find someone to take him. Anyway, I just have more money than I know what to do with."
Hearing this, Jin Yunxi almost died of fury.
She stormed off.
The rest looked on with envy. Why couldn't it be me! This young man must be sick!
The old man laughed. This young man is interesting.
The blind man shook his head. "Actually, I don't need it. Food and drink, gambling perhaps, but that last thing... no."
"No worries, just take more Indian God of Oil."
What the hell is that?
"You're Jiang Chen."
"Yes."
"My name is..."
"You don't have to tell me. We've met by chance; there's no need to know names. I mean what I say. From now on, you'll eat and live here. If you leave, you'll be in danger. You understand what I'm saying."
Even though the blind man had no eyes, he still 'looked' at Jiang Chen.
I understand what Jiang Chen means. Once I walk out that door, these people probably won't let me go. But I've never cared.
"Yes, I am a blind man," the blind man muttered to himself.
You don't have to tell me. I already know you're blind.
"I hear you're a Swordsman?"
"Yes."
"What's the Swordsman class like?"
"Nothing special. Just like you Wanderers, we use swords."
"Have you ever thought of abandoning your badge and becoming a Wanderer?"
"No."
"Why not?"
"I'm treating you. I'll cover your food, drink, prostitution, and gambling for ten years, and no one asked me why I'm doing *that*. So, if I don't want to become a Wanderer, I just don't. That's all there is to it."
I've never considered this question. Life under the Alliance of All-Gods is so good. Why should I abandon my badge and roam with a group of people? In my opinion, these so-called Wanderers don't even have homes. They might as well be called Vagrants. And then there are the women in my life: Angelina, Daphne... Daphne, well, never mind her. But Angelina? I promised to help her become a God, a goal I've never given up on. If I became a Wanderer, could I even continue to cultivate? That's a question. Whether I could become a master is also a question. What do Wanderers rely on? Talent? I don't believe I have any special Talent. These native Wanderers cultivate for decades and are still only comparable to a First-stage class. What if I have no Talent? I'd just be stuck mixing in with them. As for 'fighting for freedom,' that's all bullshit. Isn't being a Hero free enough? Are my hands and feet tied? They just don't have a home, so they call themselves Wanderers. It's much more comfortable to have a home. That's also why many Wanderers end up living on the Continent of All-Gods. When faced with a choice between bread and ideals, most people choose bread.
