The Eternal Dreamer is akin to a Prophet.
He reminded Lu Li that needing a psychologist indicates that Lu Li is already showing psychological problems.
The sixth batch of residents has a suitable candidate.
Grimm Wolf, known familiarly as the Old Werewolf. This nickname is unrelated to his personality, purely because of his thick and dense fur.
Though this made his reputation poor among Inner Ring neighbors, Grimm Wolf took pride in it. At least when chilly times struck, he was the last to freeze to death.
This Old Werewolf, who was always subjected to conservative mockery because of his appearance, has "psychologist" listed as his secondary profession on the resident list, with his primary profession being a scholar well-versed in law.
Considering that even doctors find little meaning in The Dark Era, psychologists were of course long discarded into the trash heap.
Amidst the turbulent waves stirred by the storm, no one was worried about trivial matters like whether the food was cooked.
When brought by the Vine Cultist, Grimm Wolf initially thought Lu Li wanted to inquire about the progress of legal codification. He couldn't contain his inner astonishment when he learned that Lu Li needed psychological assistance: "The Exorcist has a psychological illness?"
"Can you treat it?"
The Mother of the Marsh's skepticism towards psychologists was akin to previous court physicians concocting nauseating potions.
"As long as the Exorcist is afflicted with a psychological ailment."
When asked about what he needed, Grimm Wolf only asked for a sheet of paper and a pen, along with a vacant room where he could be alone with Lu Li.
...
In the room adjacent to the Eternal Dreamer, Lu Li sank into a soft sofa.
The Mother of the Marsh and the distorted figures were kept outside, along with their consciousness.
Grimm Wolf stood before Lu Li, clasping his hands: "Perhaps you wouldn't mind some idle chatting to help relax and get you into the state."
Lu Li quietly nodded.
Psychological illnesses seemed like things of a distant past to Lu Li, so far back that they were overshadowed by renewed memories—these were his early experiences in this world.
"You can ask me some questions, such as my abundant body hair, since it's in a restrained state now." Grimm Wolf cradled his large beard: "During my time in Vena Ice-Free Port my hair was so abundant it was unpleasant, not just on my face. My chest, arms, palms, legs—they all said I resembled a werewolf wearing clothing, and trust me, that's not a compliment. They considered werewolves as aliens, and Vena Neverfreeze Harbourers loathed aliens more than oddities."
It's conceivable the plight Grimm Wolf faced there.
"Had it not been for Matthias's remembrance and kindness delivering me here, it wouldn't take long before they arrested me as an alien. Although worried about frightening others here, in the end I shaved off my hair, resulting in more than a dozen cuts due to dull blades…"
Following idle chats, Grimm Wolf naturally steered the topic back to Lu Li: "Next, I hope you could share what you have seen in your delirium. Rest assured, you're not a patient. We can still keep the conversation's pace…"
The Mother of the Marsh and distorted figures had relocated their afternoon tea to the Vine Church courtyard.
Midway, Lu Li and Grimm Wolf emerged from the room into the courtyard.
"How was the result?"
Grimm Wolf asked Lu Li, then upon gaining permission, relayed the findings to two Alien Gods: "His Excellency Lulian suffers from severe psychological disorders... His mind is nearing the verge of collapse..."
The Mother of the Marsh gazed at the serene Lu Li: "Yet I sense no aura of destruction emanating from his body or spirit."
"This is precisely the issue. The Exorcist's rationality and calm allow him to endure such pain, but the pain doesn't disappear and keeps accumulating... like a patient unaware of pain suffering from a grave illness without noticing, still carrying on as usual."
"Why has all of this come to pass?"
"Because of... Miss Anna."
In those circulated stories, Anna was Lu Li's partner and assistant. Everyone, every story, every biography overlooked Anna's significance to Lu Li.
"Humans aren't continuous; we're composed of one story after another. Stories make us grow, form our memories, and nurture our thoughts. Some stories always leave a deep impression, creating profound marks on us... The more important the stories, the deeper the marks they leave, Miss Anna is the story that etched many marks in Mr. Luli's life."
"How many marks?"
"All of them."
Grimm Wolf sighed: "Hence, the Exorcist's blissful dreams are all connected to Miss Anna. When Miss Anna vanished, Mr. Luli was plunged into immense pain from toleration."
"I suppose Midnight City realized the problem and sought to restore the memories, hoping to evoke the humanity within Mr. Luli."
Pessimistically considered, Lu Li's state couldn't be worse; optimistically considered, even as dire as it was, Lu Li exhibited no symptoms.
"Tell me the medication to cure him."
Whether as friends or as forces of the Land of Light, not letting Lu Li fall was imperative.
"Medications won't work, nor will alchemical medicine." Grimm Wolf carefully conveyed to the Mother of the Marsh: "The Exorcist's psychological state resembles a house with no walls, objects within the house support the roof but can't endure indefinitely. To prevent worsening of the situation, we must let the Exorcist acquire new support to prop up his mental abode."
This necessitates collaborative efforts between Lu Li and them.
Grimm Wolf intended to request Lu Li after treatment to allow his niece to become part of the seventh batch of residents, but the Exorcist's dire situation dissuaded him from doing so. He pledged confidentiality about this matter and returned to the school building to continue his studies.
"Why don't you feel any pain at all?"
The distorted figure enquired Lu Li, his demeanor starkly contrasted those who realized misfortune had dawned upon them.
Lu Li expressed the factual situation: "He's interpreting existing facts, not prophesying. Acknowledging it doesn't change its existence."
"You're better suited to be Divinity than I." The Mother of the Marsh appraised.
On the distorted figure's suggestion, Lu Li revisited the Eternal Dreamer, inquiring whether he had a solution.
"Don't do anything."
The Eternal Dreamer, who had prompted Lu Li to consult the psychologist, didn't reveal what should be done. Who knows what he glimpsed across the river of time.
A white stone was temporarily kept by Lu Li. The Eternal Dreamer asserted its potential to aid Lu Li in mastering the Dreamwalker, hence its capability is certain.
His gaze fell upon the stone in the oil lamp, yet Lu Li didn't immediately pick it up.
"What's wrong with you?"
"Illusions have appeared too many times..."
Like a Nightmare entangled, indistinct.
Lu Li lowered his gaze, still he reached out to lift the oil lamp.
Nothing came to pass.
Then departing through Vine Church, upon returning to the Shore of Agate Lake, Lu Li saw Anna sitting by the wooden bridge, small calves under her white long dress dangling over the lake surface, reflecting the colors of dusk.
"This place is so beautiful... if only it were possible to live here."
Anna turned her head tenderly to gaze upon Lu Li.
The pilings supporting the wooden bridge prompted subtle ripples across the lake as Lu Li stepped on, advancing to stand behind Anna. Together, they watched the twilight over Agate Lake.
The lake's reflection joined Lu Li and Anna together.
