Unrivaled in another world

Chapter 117: The Connection

[: 3rd POV :]

The aftermath of the Apocalyptic clash between Daniel and the Sovereign of Apocalypse left the mercenaries and guild members utterly speechless.

None of them could find words, no tongue, no language could capture what had just occurred before their eyes.

It wasn't a battle, nor even a war; it was a convergence of forces beyond mortal comprehension.

To them, it felt like hundreds of different cataclysms happening at once, collapsing into a single moment that defied reality itself.

Their minds reeled, struggling to piece together what they had witnessed.

One moment the Sovereign's gaze threatened to erase them, the next the very fabric of the world shattered and reformed under Daniel's strike.

Each heartbeat felt like an eternity, each breath dragged from lungs that barely obeyed.

It was overwhelming, suffocating, so utterly overbearing that their bodies trembled against the floor, instincts screaming that even a stray aftershock could erase them without a trace.

They knew, with chilling clarity, that at any instant their lives could be snuffed out like candles in a storm.

That was the dread of it.

That was the terror of standing in the shadow of beings and powers that should never exist within the mortal realm.

And yet, somehow… they had survived.

However, now, none of them could look at Daniel with the same judgmental eyes they once held before stepping into this chamber.

Whatever thoughts or dismissal they had carried into this place had been shattered along with reality itself.

To them, Daniel was no longer just a boy, no longer just a guildmate or adventurer.

He was something else, an unknown being, an anomaly that stood outside the boundaries of what they could understand.

His very presence made their hearts waver, and a single question gnawed at the back of their minds.

'Is he even human?'

The thought terrified them more than the Sovereign had.

A mortal could be measured, envied, rivaled.

But Daniel?

He was something that defied reason, something they doubted should even exist within this world.

And yet, despite the uncertainty, despite the dread, there was one fact they could not deny, no matter what doubts clawed at them, no matter how shaken their faith in reality itself had become.

They were alive.

Alive only because of Daniel.

"Without a doubt… today has been a wild ride for us,"

Walter finally broke the silence, his voice trembling slightly yet carrying a warmth that steadied the others.

His lips curved into a weary but genuine smile.

"But it's all thanks to you that we're alive right now."

Daniel's gaze shifted briefly toward him, his expression calm, almost detached.

"I just did what I could do. It's nothing much," he said, as if the impossible feat he had just performed was nothing more than brushing dust off his shoulder.

To the others, however, those words struck them deeper than the clash itself.

'Nothing much?'

How could he call tearing apart an Apocalypse Sovereign's attack nothing much?

For them, it had been the closest brush with death they would ever know.

For Daniel, it seemed like a mere step forward.

Walter let out a chuckle, though it carried both relief and a hint of disbelief.

"Nothing much? Hah… I don't know if I should laugh or cry at that."

His voice cracked, not from weakness but from the weight of surviving the impossible.

The tension broke, if only slightly.

One by one, the others found their voices, their fear softening into gratitude.

Words tumbled out, thanks, promises, vows of loyalty, murmured acknowledgments of the life he had preserved for them.

Some spoke through tears, others with voices hoarse from screaming and choking under the Sovereign's pressure.

And to every thanks, every vow, Daniel only gave the same calm reply he had offered Walter.

His voice never wavered, steady as stone. "I just did what I could do."

To him, perhaps, that was true.

But to them, his very existence now felt like a miracle.

"Now that the operation itself is successful, I'll leave the people we saved in your care,"

Daniel said with a calm tone.

He adjusted his clothes and turned toward the exit.

"I'll be making my way out."

Before Walter could respond, Daniel added almost casually, "I don't need the rewards. You can distribute them to the others."

Walter blinked, caught off guard.

"Are you… sure? After all that? There's no way we can just let you leave empty-handed. You've done far too much for us."

His words carried genuine concern, not just for fairness but because Daniel had become something far more than an ally in their eyes.

Daniel's lips twitched into the faintest smile, though his expression remained composed.

"In the first place, the rewards aren't my goal. My focus was the Zero Organization."

Walter studied him for a moment, reading the unspoken weight in those words.

"Then… if you say so, I won't question further. But it seems to me you have some kind of personal goal tied to the Zero Organization."

His voice softened, almost like a friend worried about another.

"At least, please accept this."

He reached into his satchel and handed Daniel a leather docket, its edges worn with use.

Inside were reports, some half-finished, others marked with hastily drawn symbols, scattered rumours, and sightings of the Zero Organization's activity.

Kidnappings, hidden bases, suspicious movements, all pieced together as best as the guild could manage.

Daniel accepted it without hesitation, his dark eyes scanning the front page briefly.

"Then, I won't refuse. This helps a lot," he said, tucking the papers away.

For the first time since the battle, there was a hint of genuine gratitude in his voice.

"May luck be with you on your journey,"

Walter said, his tone carrying both respect and camaraderie.

And to their exhaustion-fueled surprise, Daniel didn't answer.

He simply vanished, his figure dissolving into the shadows, leaving only silence and the faint trace of his presence behind.

The mercenaries and guild members exchanged glances, still struggling to reconcile the man who had saved them with the anomaly who had stood against a Sovereign.

He appeared in the City of Velaria Nexus, the same city he had went to before joining the Operation, and only then could he read the System's Announcement.
