Chapter 161: Learning could be Fun

[: Daniel's POV :]

[: Daniel's POV :]

Professor Scarlett raised her hand slightly and the classroom dimmed as faint blue light illuminated the inscriptions carved into the walls.

The runes resonated softly, like the room itself was alive and it was listening.

"Now that we have clarified the basic definition…"

She said, voice calm yet carrying absolute authority.

"We will delve deeper into the mechanics and applications of Anti-Magic."

I leaned forward instinctively.

Even Fendrick stopped tapping his foot.

Scarlett drew two shapes in the air, mana-made diagrams materializing like floating glass.

On the left, there was a smooth, rhythmic pattern.

And on the right, it was a jagged, chaotic one.

"Every spell follows a mana frequency pattern."

She tapped the smooth diagram.

It pulsed in a soothing rhythm.

"This is creation."

Then she tapped the chaotic one, and immidiately parks scattered, unstable.

"This is disruption."

She looked around the room with her eyes glowing crimson.

"When two conflicting frequencies collide, the one with stronger stability or manipulation will overpower the other."

"So it's like… noise-canceling headphones?" I muttered out loud.

Fendrick blinked. "Noise cancelling what?"

"Quiet, boys."

Scarlett said without even looking.

"And new student, I'm amazed that you know such an advanced term"

We both jolted like children caught stealing cookies.

A few students snickered.

Warm laughter spread through the room, not mocking, but amused.

Scarlett smiled softly.

"It's fine"

"Curiosity and confusion are both parts of learning."

She flicked her wand again and a flame appeared before her, small, flickering and harmless.

"Let us analyze this simple fire spell."

She snapped her fingers and another waveform showed above it.

"This represents its mana frequency. And now"

Her mana pulsed outward like a calm ripple on water.

The fire's frequency wavered… then decayed into ash.

"That was Partial Disruption. Enough to weaken the spell, but not fully nullify it."

Another wand flick — a fresh fire appeared.

"If one precisely matches the frequency—perfectly..."

She barely twitched her finger.

The fire vanished instantly.

It was not extinguished.

It was deleted similar or maybe the same as how my skills worked.

Gasps rippled across the room.

"That is Full Nullification"

A cold, thrilling shiver spread down my spine.

To erase something so effortlessly…

Fendrick whispered, "We are learning something insanely dangerous."

"Yes," I murmured. "And insanely useful."

Even then, scarlett continued.

"There are three tiers of Anti-Magic application."

She wrote glowing words into the air.

[: Suppression :]

- Dampen spell strength; ideal for defense and stalling.

[: Disruption :]

- Cause a spell to collapse; break structure mid-cast.

[: Nullification :]

- Erase the mechanism entirely; high risk, high mastery.

"Nullification requires perfect resonance," she explained.

"Your mana and your opponent's must collide… in the same tempo."

Magic was less like science...and more like music.

She pressed a hand over her heart.

"Everyone's mana is unique and it's like a voice"

"Some are loud, some could be as soft as a whisper, some may be jagged, and some could be smooth."

"So you must pay attention"

"You must feel and listen."

Fendrick whispered, "Feel, listen… So magic is like flirting?"

I snorted.

"Don't compare romance to blowing up people's spells."

"Magic is love," Fendrick replied dramatically.

"Mr. Fendrick. If magic is love, please stop flirting with disruption" Scarlett said.

The entire class burst into laughter, including me.

Fendrick groaned into his hands.

"…I walked into that one."

My sides hurt from trying not to laugh too loud.

Now this feels like an academy.

Once the room quieted again, Scarlett's tone shifted, more serious.

"Anti-Magic is not superior or absolute. It has three severe weaknesses"

She wrote them into glowing symbols:

[: Requires precision — Not brute force :]

[: Fails if the caster lacks understanding :]

[: Backflash Risk— if frequencies clash incorrectly

"If you force the disruption…" She waved her wand.

A burst of unstable energy exploded outward, rattling desks.

"…you and the opponent suffer. Sometimes lethally."

Silence fell.

Understanding dawned on me:

This wasn't just another trick.

This was a weapon of responsibility.

One wrong move…and you could destroy yourself.

Scarlett resumed more calmly.

"To master Anti-Magic, one must develop heightened mana sensitivity."

Training methods appeared as shimmering text:

[: Mana Pulse Perception :]

- Release controlled pulses and observe interactions

[: Intent Reading :]

- Sense emotional fluctuations through mana

[: Frequency Lock :]

- Focus on one opponent; ignore all else

"That last one," she warned, "can leave you blind to other threats."

So Anti-Magic users must be both focused…

and aware.

A contradiction that only true mastery could solve.

Scarlett sipped tea conjured from thin air.

Students stretched and quietly whispered among themselves.

I turned to Fendrick.

"You're surprisingly attentive."

"I'm rude," he replied, "not stupid."

Touché.

"So why do you hate nobles?" I asked lightly.

His jaw tightened.

Eyes drifting to the window.

"…Some nobles deserve it."

That wasn't all.

But I didn't push.

"Don't worry," I whispered, "I'm a good one."

He gave me a slow side-eye.

"We'll see."

Scarlett called out without facing us:

"Mr. Daniel. Mr. Fendrick. Whispering again?"

We flinched in sync.

The class chuckled.

Scarlett giggled. "No punishment. Just… focus. You both have potential."

Her praise felt strangely encouraging.

Hours passed before Scarlett clapped once.

"All right. Let us put theory into practice."

Every student perked up in equal excitement and fear.

She rearranged the room in an instant, desks sliding aside by invisible force.

The central magic circle pulsed brighter, expanding and connecting to arcane symbols on the floor.

"We will start with Suppression"

She summoned a string of tiny lights, like glowing fireflies.

Each pulsed with an individual mana signature.

"Your task is to put out one of these lights."

We formed a large circle around the room.

"Their fire will resist you. They represent real spells and fueled by intent."

Her gaze deepened.

"Calm your mana and feel theirs. Then gently… quiet them."

A boy stepped forward, overconfident.

He thrust his hand toward the light.

A surge of mana blasted out.

*BOOM!!*

The orb exploded.

The shockwave knocked him backward into a desk.

Scarlett shook her head.

"That was brute force. We are not extinguishing a campfire. We are soothing a wild animal."

She gestured toward the boy, healing him instantly.

"Next."

Students swallowed nervously.

Then, eventually, it was my turn.

I inhaled and stepped forward.

A single light fluttered before me — quick, energetic, almost playful.

I knew that currently, with all of my powers, there was no need for me to learn about magic.

But right now, I couldn't hold back my urge to learn about magic itself.

Even then, at this moment, I extended my palm slowly.

Without using any of my powers, I tried.

I breathe and feel the mana around it and dwelve deeper into the zone of its frequency.

Its frequency was like wind, fast but rhythmic.

I gently expanded my mana outward like a soft ripple…

Trying to catch its rhythm.

The light danced back, resisting — defensive.

But I didn't push harder.

I listened.

Matched its motion.

Aligned my flow.

*shhhhhhhh…*

The light flickered.

And it dimmed.

Then, it was gone.

Soft applause broke out.

Scarlett smiled proudly.

"Excellent. You have talent."

My chest warmed. Not from ego…but from relief.

Fendrick bumped my shoulder.

"Not bad, roommate."

"You jealous?" I teased.

"Of your luck? Absolutely."

Now, it was Fendrick turn, and he stepped up like a man ready to duel a dragon.

His light was aggressive, sharp spikes of mana stabbing outward.

He narrowed his eyes.

"Calm down, you little spark."

He released mana…

The light fought back viciously, crackling like static.

"Woah—hey—HEY—!"

It zapped him straight in the forehead.

Fendrick collapsed backward clutching his face.

The room erupted in laughter.

Even Scarlett hid a smile behind her hand.

"That is impulsive Mana. You must respect its personality," she said, gently healing him.

Fendrick sulked.

"That spark is evil…"

I patted his shoulder.

"At least it didn't blow up like that first guy."

"Small victory…" he grumbled.

But I saw it, his smile trying to hide.

One by one, all of the sudents attempted:

Some succeeded through patience.

Some got blasted.

Some ended in adorable failures.

Every cheer, every laugh, it slowly turned strangers into classmates.

Scarlett guided each student with patience like a mother teaching children to draw magic from the air.

I understood now why she was respected.

Not just for power…

But for heart.

Eventually, Scarlett raised her wand once more.

"We will try a light exercise in Disruption."

Fire sigils lit up around the room, one for each student.

"These are designed to weaken easily, so do not worry."

She demonstrated.

A touch of mana, slight interference, and the sigil unraveled into harmless smoke.

"Do not overextend. And remember:

Precision over power."

I closed my eyes and reached for the sigil before me.

Its pattern was different, complex but predictable.

Like a wheel turning.

I inverted my mana rhythm, tapping into its motion.

The rune flickered…

Then dissolved.

Success.

Fendrick tried again and he was more careful this time.

His sigil flickered violently…twisted…

and it disappeared.

He pumped a fist.

"Yes! Who's evil now?"

I clapped.

"Well done, mighty spark conqueror."

He rolled his eyes but grinned proudly.

Scarlett did a soft slow clap.

"Well done, class."

Hours had passed like minutes.

We were exhausted…but exhilarated.

I wasn't exhausted because of Mana, but rather, I was exhausted of learning.

Still, I was somehow fulfilled by this lesson.

Anti-Magic wasn't just theory anymore.

On the other hand, watching us trying to catch our breath, Scarlett gave a final warning.

"You must practice carefully. Anti-Magic can save lives…but recklessness can destroy them."

She bowed lightly.

"That is all for today."

Students cheered.

Energy vibrating through the room.

Fendrick nudged me again.

"Told you learning could be fun."

"Yeah," I smiled.

"It really is."
