Chapter 642: "Side Gigs

Lin Yi was astonished, his mouth agape, unsure of what to say.

The previously opaque "Principal's Office" had suddenly become exquisitely transparent. Among the gaps between the vines, there appeared sheet after sheet of bat-wing-like transparent thin films, each displaying surreal images.

These images resembled TV screens stacked in a furniture store in the 1990s, each set turned on and showing different "television" programs, filling the inner walls of the "Principal's Office."

Most of these images depicted scenes unfamiliar to Lin Yi.

Some depicted a post-apocalyptic wasteland…

Towers of twisted steel debris jutted out of a reddish desert, with tattered fluorescent graffiti tarps fluttering in the sandstorm like ghostly flags…

In the distance stood an obelisk formed from the debris of some technological product, with a glass chamber at its top embedding half of a mechanical skeleton, like the corpse of a warrior who perished in exoskeleton armor.

Giant rusted gears were scattered among the sand dunes, with white bones of unknown creatures wedged among the cogs—as if some great force had dragged them out from the earth's core and discarded them in this desolate place.

Other scenes were in a near-future cyberpunk sci-fi style…

Holographic neon ads hovered in a leaden-gray curtain of rain, the dim sky indistinguishable between day and night. Neon signs in traditional Huaxia characters flickered on some skyscrapers, the vivid interplay of light and shadow reminiscent of scenes only seen in certain games.

On wet streets, mercenaries wearing pieces of exoskeleton equipment moved freely, seemingly heading somewhere to deliver a task. Between high-rise buildings, maglev trains like steel dragons appeared to be coursing through the air, their windows revealing extravagantly dressed individuals whose opulence stood starkly out of place with the times, elegantly embodying the concept of capital.

Within the depths of these images was a colossal server matrix tower piercing the dingy clouds, steam from its cooling vents mixing with acid rain to form a faint mist…

On the body of this matrix tower, a plaque could vaguely be seen, labeled as if indicating the "Stark Building" alongside huge traditional characters: "Huaxia Heavy Industry -HK-02"…

Besides these, a few images contained elements familiar to Lin Yi, such as a Gothic church somewhere in Europe, appearing straight out of a vampire comic. But its spire was longitudinally torn, with dark golden fluid surging through the fissures. In the somber light and shadow, battle nuns in black and white habits could be faintly seen…

For example, the Ancient Great Wall of Huaxia, where the surface of the ancient bricks bore inscriptions similar to the cautions inside the Bell Tower. Figures resembling Qi Refiners patrolled atop the wall, while beneath its majestic structure, strange creatures akin to nocturnal species seemed to writhe between the mountains.

Or a colossal array of tilted stone pillars on an island, comprised of seven fractured giant columns. Some shattered column parts pierced the earth while others hovered in the void, like the Quantum giant clock "Holy Hall" at a map level, taking the form of countless fragmented pieces. Chains of secret marks entwined the columns, ceaselessly disbanding and reassembling. Occasionally, waves of air pulsated from the stone formation, stirring up torrents in the surrounding seas.

It felt as though an ancient malevolent deity imprisoned in the abyss below continually exhaled its breath…

There was also a super-giant human sculpture group resembling the megaliths of Easter Island, each stone's deepest carvings oozing with blood-drop patterns, which subtly delineated the starry sky's renderings…

These images covered most global anomalies, making Lin Yi suspect that the scenes they corresponded to might indeed be various dark zones around the world and some human settlements.

Apart from regions imbued with elements of global styles, there were also smaller scenes like a hospital, a circus, an ancient courtyard, and even a rain-misted highway seeming to exist in a nightmare.

A few remaining images showed entirely black sea surfaces, depicting monotonous and tedious waves.

Besides these, some last images depicted situations within the campus.

But what struck Lin Yi was that the images concerning the campus had only one view, taken from above, whereas there were up to eight views of the Gymnasium.

These eight images covered nearly all the activity areas of the Gymnasium, numbering even more than the views of the black sea.

"Only one 'lens' for the campus, but eight for the Gymnasium?" Lin Yi was utterly astonished, "Wait a moment! These lenses?!"

In one of the images, Lin Yi saw the figures of his Boss and Li Huiyuan, and even himself!

"Are these images delayed?" He peered closely, discovering that parts of these images concerning the campus indeed showed pendulum clocks.

These were the pendulum clocks found in every classroom, and through these surveillance-like images, part of the clocks was visible, their displayed time included in the images.
