Chapter 212 Class 4

"Oh oh oh... no need, no need, let's just go to the cafeteria," Mao Feiyang rubbed his arm, feeling somewhat uncomfortable.

These numb imposters were like the wandering souls in line to drink Meng Po Soup in the Netherworld, giving off an eerily unsettling vibe.

Lin Yi's eyes lit up at the sight, and he suddenly felt a sense of closure—the scene was reminiscent of those pseudo-humans leaving the classroom before sunrise, wasn't it?

He hadn't expected to see this from Mao Feiyang's perspective outside the classroom!

Having left the classroom, some of the imposters descended the steps towards the Green Forest Belt, while others headed for the elevator.

He knew this place: those who walked into the Green Forest Belt would turn into the phalanx of human sculptures during daytime, and those that entered the elevator would become a soft, rubbery putty, filling the entire elevator.

"Hey, that's not right!" Lin Yi suddenly popped up with a question. Even if Mu Daxian and Maozi really did get the Student Souvenir Coin and returned to the Teaching Building, they were supposed to take the elevator back to the Art Building, so why not go now?!

"Wait wait wait... Yeah! That's not right!"

"That's not right, Brother Xian!" As if by some telepathy, Mao Feiyang also came up with the same question as Lin Yi at that moment—

"Brother Xian, why don't we take the elevator back now?"

Mao Feiyang asked a logically sound question.

"Yeah, why not go back now?" That was also Lin Yi's question.

If they were all taking the elevator back from here, why not go directly now, instead of making an extra trip to go round-trip to the cafeteria? Unless there was more to it? Lin Yi was puzzled.

Mu Daxian answered without hesitation, "First, you're covered in too much of 'His' breath, and if we took the elevator now with any Sneering Angels still around, we'd be dead for sure."

"We'll go around the cafeteria, not only to get the Commemorative Coin, but we can also wash off some of 'His' breath with the light from the street lamps."

"Second, I have a friend over there who might be able to help us treat the injuries on our arms."

"The saying that sharpening your axe won't delay your work of cutting wood applies here."

"We can't assume just because I said we should try to catch the elevator at 6 o'clock that it's definitely going to work."

"If we miss it, then the two of us, each with one useless arm, will have to hold out here until the next midnight..."

"Like me now, I can't perform some of my moves with some of my trump cards, but if we get this 'baton' fixed, it'll be different." Mu Daxian flicked his left arm, which was as hard as a genuine old-fashioned baton.

"We must reduce such controllable risks as much as possible, or... eliminate them. Understand?"

"Oh—I get it now!" Mao Feiyang showed a look of sudden realization.

The two of them then descended the steps and walked along, following the streetlights.

The storm had abated without notice, and the fog gradually drew back over the mountain, leaving behind only a thin layer of moisture that hovered over the campus, as if dry ice had enveloped everything.

A faint light of dawn appeared on the eastern hillsides; the faint light of dawn couldn't yet pierce the heavy clouds, but the ridges were already showing a gray-blue texture.

This was a sign of dawn.

Just as the appearance of the sun signifies "safety" in every zombie movie, this glimmer of dawn also heralded the temporary fading of the terrifying phenomena of the previous night, casting a dreamy glow over the entire world.

On the cobblestone path below the steps, the uneven crevices still held some puddles that reflected halo-like glimmers under the streetlights, like shattered mirrors scattered on the ground.

Few crystal-clear raindrops hung on the outer wall of the Teaching Building, which looked like shards of glass in the light of the streetlamps, sliding down the wall with a faint pitter-patter.

The air was permeated with a moist breath, mixing the scents of grass and earth, wafting under the streetlights.

The entire campus was submerged in the tranquility after the rain, everything looking very peaceful, the only dissonance being the dense crowd of imposters moving about.

These imposters avoided the light of the streetlamps and plunged into the dissipating mist like a school of fish rushing back to the sea as the tide receded.

"They won't attack us, will they?" Mao Feiyang asked worriedly, fearing that if the imposters ambushed them now, with Mu Daxian in his current state, things would likely turn grim.

Mao Feiyang felt like an undeveloped support, barely counting as half a combatant; often times, he was more of a liability than anything else.

And Mu Daxian was like a carry with an ongoing blood-draining debuff, with no way to regain health or outlast a sea of enemies no matter how high his damage output was.

Mu Daxian glanced at the imposters and replied indifferently, "No."

He explained, "In their eyes, we are fundamentally the same as them, kind of like kin... well, or rather, a type of kin that could serve as food."

Mao Feiyang shivered.

Mu Daxian continued, "Don't be fooled by imposters; they are purely instinctual creatures and can't actually see us with their eyes. The reason they still turn their heads is because the muscle tissue retains some human instincts."
