AnalogHorror: Rule Kaidan 4016

Chapter 431: Surrounded by Zealots

"For an Experience Student like that, there's no need to understand formulas, no need to grasp every variable. Just memorize the questions and answers, and write them down from memory."

"But for us, the questions aren't the ones from the practice papers. If we see a similar question and just blindly write down the memorized answer, we definitely won't score any points. In situations like that, we need to start by using the question to get familiar with the basic principles, and only then can we gradually unravel the puzzle."

"The so-called school rules are essentially just practice papers."

"Through the rules, we can understand the underlying logic running the campus, and then—uh, not to do whatever we want—but then we can adapt more flexibly."

Li Huiyuan's heart was stirred upon hearing this. She looked at Lin Yi with stars sparkling in her eyes: "So this is why you've been exploring the Teaching Building non-stop for the past few days?"

Lin Yi didn't hide it, nodding: "Yeah... My roommate accidentally wandered into the Art Building and became an Art Student. But we agreed to leave together after seven days, so I'm trying to find a way to bring him back from the Art Building. For that, I have to deeply understand how the campus operates."

"But this doesn't seem related to your exploration of the Teaching Building... shouldn't you be exploring the Art Building instead?" Li Huiyuan asked bluntly.

Lin Yi wiped off some sweat: "But I didn't have any opportunities to go into the Art Building earlier… so I could only check out what strange things are going on in the Teaching Building first."

"Oh!" Li Huiyuan responded, nodding as she started curiously examining the surroundings of the fifth floor of the Teaching Building.

Lin Yi glanced at his watch to confirm the time—9:35—and then began observing the fifth floor as well.

The layout of the fifth floor of the Teaching Building was surprisingly similar to the first through fourth floors below. The only difference was in the atmosphere; the air here seemed somewhat murky, like the white mist that perpetually shrouded the otherworld in Silent Hill.

The thin white mist permeated the entire space, slightly hindering visibility. The view outside the Corridor Bridge quickly became blurred, and even the other side of the hallway was obscured. The hallway seemed to stretch into a surreal, endless void.

What caught Lin Yi off guard was that, based on his initial assumptions, the areas above the fifth floor of the Teaching Building might be a den teeming with Nocturnal species—a nest or lair. But as things stood, at least this kind of environment spared them a lot of physical exertion…

Speaking of which, when he recited the Cautions earlier and carved a path through the Nocturnal species, it unexpectedly reminded him of the moment Alibaba shouted, "Open Sesame," in the story.

Could it be that the tale from Arabian folklore, *One Thousand and One Nights*, wasn't entirely fabricated?

Was Alibaba's so-called incantation actually some kind of Caution pronounced with a sound resembling "Open Sesame"?

And was the "door" actually constructed from countless mysterious creatures akin to the Nocturnal species?

Considering how the Original Apostles spread their global cultural journey from the Black Moon Outpost, Lin Yi suspected that many widely circulated stories across the world might be connected to the uncanny and the Transcendent...

He shook his head, choosing not to dwell on those thoughts for now. The pressing matter was to quickly investigate the fifth floor of the Teaching Building.

"Let's choose a classroom closest to the staircase..." Lin Yi whispered. "We'll take a quick look, then leave. How about that?"

Li Huiyuan seemed somewhat skeptical about the sincerity of Lin Yi's words, and couldn't help but say, "You better really just 'take a quick look.'"

"Uh... you've got to trust me just this once!" Lin Yi said with a helpless smile.

"I've always trusted you," Li Huiyuan said earnestly with her hands on her hips. "But then again, certain someone always seems to show me with facts that my trust is misplaced."

"When did I ever?" Lin Yi retorted, exasperated.

"You totally did." Li Huiyuan replied firmly.

Lin Yi quickly shifted the topic: "Let's not argue about this now. We can talk about it after we return to campus. Let's focus on the task at hand first."

With that, he grabbed Li Huiyuan's hand and cautiously started walking step by step towards where Class 15 of Group B was supposed to be—or at least theoretically should be.

But just as Lin Yi led Li Huiyuan around a corner, he suddenly noticed a figure emerging from the hazy mist.

It was coming from the depths of the white mist-enshrouded hallway. Most likely someone from Class 14 of Group B—or perhaps even Class 13 of Group B...

No, wait!

Lin Yi's heart skipped a beat!

Something was off!

How could there be someone here?!

Lin Yi quickly pulled Li Huiyuan along, hiding behind the nearest pillar.

Before Li Huiyuan could react to what was happening, Lin Yi silenced her with a "shh" gesture.

Li Huiyuan wanted to say something, but Lin Yi suddenly lowered his voice and whispered, "Don't speak. Someone's here!"

Li Huiyuan nodded, yet—in the very next moment—her expression turned to horror as she looked behind Lin Yi: "Watch out!!"

Li Huiyuan's warning hadn't even finished when Lin Yi suddenly felt a chillingly cold presence behind him. Almost instinctively, he whipped his head around to look.

「Swish—」

An eerie scene unfolded. The figure that had just appeared in the hallway had silently arrived right behind him!

No footsteps, no sound of movement—this chilling speed immediately made Lin Yi think of those shadow-lurking Chefs in the green apron!

This was someone whose gender wasn't immediately clear—40 percent male, 40 percent female, and the remaining 20 percent beyond human. Their age seemed fairly young, but their face was pale, and their eyes carried a dark, vindictive energy, like a venomous snake creeping out of some shadowy corner.
