Merchant From Earth in the Magical World

Chapter 270: Square Defense_1

Count Theodore's face showed no joy at the reinforcements attacking the enemy, but rather concern.

He quietly reminded Yan Xing, "I can still hold on here; you don't need to rush to rescue me so eagerly.

"If your Mages exhaust their Magic Power, I fear they won't be able to withstand the enemy's counterattack."

As Count Theodore spoke, another round of thunderous noise arose from the direction of the plaza.

A mass of black objects flew through the air before once again crashing into the rubble that had just been bombarded.

The previous dust had not yet settled when new clouds surged up.

Several more buildings collapsed.

"Magic?" After listening to Count Theodore, Yan Xing laughed. "Yes, this is Magic. But the way this Magic is released is not what you imagine.

"You also don't need to worry about Magic Power consumption; my weapon can flatten any place we believe holds enemies."

Before the conversation ended, another series of thunderous noises came from the plaza.

The flying shells once again pummeled the target area.

Because he suffered from a fear of insufficient firepower, Yan Xing had reserved ample ammunition for the artillery for this battle.

The armies under the Eternal Domain now controlled the road from Nuta City's north gate to the Eternal Domain. Newly developed trucks were transporting new artillery and ammunition to Nuta City.

Therefore, when Chui Chui planned the bombardment, she was very generous, insisting on at least ten rounds of artillery fire for key target areas.

Fifty guns firing ten rounds each meant five hundred shells, covering an area of about 3,000 square meters.

Even using solid shells, this density was terrifying, especially against the enemy's dense, unprepared formations.

Facing shells plummeting from the sky at nearly three hundred meters per second, the stone houses offered little protection to those inside. The shells easily penetrated walls and ceilings, then ricocheted within the confined spaces.

The sudden attack caused numerous casualties among the assembled rebels, who didn't even know what was hitting them.

All they knew was that something was tearing through houses and ripping their comrades' bodies apart. Even heavy armor was useless against such an attack.

Some houses collapsed, burying soldiers underneath.

The stunned rebels had no idea what had happened or what to do, as new attacks rained down from the sky.

Finally awakening, the soldiers desperately sought cover. The heroes acting as mid- and lower-level officers raised Magic Shields, providing magical protection for their troops.

The attacks resumed, their brief intervals instilling fear.

This time, some Magic Shields blocked the terrible iron balls, while others shattered under the impact of those carrying immense momentum.

The heroes' protection offered little security to the soldiers. The relentless pace of the attacks made most want nothing more than to escape this nightmare.

Panic erupted in one rebel assembly area as the bombardment continued to relentlessly smash it.

After ten rounds of artillery fire, the guns emplaced in the plaza shifted their target. The judgment from the sky fell upon another group of rebels.

Count Theodore, standing on the southeast number four artillery platform of the Lord's Mansion, watched in stunned silence.

This enemy force was situated in a residential area with complex terrain. A conventional attack would require committing at least a thousand troops to fight house by house.

It was uncertain if they could even succeed.

Yet, Yan Xing had flattened the area with Magic without committing a single soldier to the battlefield.

While the battle's outcome was still unclear, at least this dispersed enemy contingent would struggle to reorganize.

And from Yan Xing's demeanor, it seemed, just as he had said, that the Magic Power consumption for this long-range attack was insignificant.

Could this be a new type of Alchemical Weapon developed by Thunderous Swamp?

While Count Theodore considered the impact this weapon might have on Nuta City, and even the situation in the Wildwind Highlands.

The artillery at the plaza was fiercely bombarding the second target area.

The same scene played out again; such an attack was unstoppable.

The ambush set by the rebels for Yan Xing's reinforcements had become useless. Their plans to attack the Lord's Mansion were also severely impacted.

If they allowed these unidentified Alchemical Weapons to continue their bombardment, an orderly assault on the Lord's Mansion would be impossible.

The rebel commander reacted relatively swiftly.

After Yan Xing's artillery position at the plaza destroyed the third target and eliminated all the rebels' catapults, a large number of rebels launched an attack on the plaza defended by Eddie.

This was the first real battle the Eternal Merchant Guild's Mercenaries had experienced since their formation.

However, the first units to move were the swarms of Unmanned Bombers on patrol in the air.

The bombs now used by the Eternal Domain's Unmanned Bombers were improved incendiary devices.

The new incendiary bombs burned longer and had stronger adhesion.

Chui Chui directed the Unmanned Bombers not against the advancing rebels, but to blockade the roads instead.

This prevented the rebels from reaching the plaza quickly, causing their forces to become congested in narrow areas.

Next came artillery bombardment from the embassy.

Shells formed an isolation zone in front of the plaza's defensive perimeter. They destroyed houses, depriving the rebels of cover, and their deterrent effect made the rebels hesitant to enter this zone.

The attacking rebels, now concentrated, were exposed to the guns of the Guild's Mercenaries.

The Guild's Mercenaries, perched at elevated positions behind constructed barricades, fired down at the rebels below.

They used dense fire to block the limited pathways.

The rebels' first offensive on the plaza was easily repelled. The cannons within the plaza continued methodically targeting areas in sequence.

The rebels soon organized a second assault.

This time, they dispersed more widely and attempted to flank the plaza.

A group of Griffons flew in, ready to join the battle, while some Mages quietly reached the front lines, preparing attack spells.

Threatened by the Griffons, the Unmanned Bombers had to retreat to higher altitudes, greatly reducing their bombing precision.

Fei Ying immediately led fifteen Griffons to provide support.

On the ground, the Guild's Mercenaries manually started fires to create a separation zone, using thick smoke to neutralize the rebels' aerial advantage.

They also shouldered rocket launchers and fired barrage rockets into the sky, creating a screen of flak to prevent the rebel Griffons from threatening the artillery positions.

The rebel Mages launched a coordinated attack, and the mercenary Mage contingent immediately engaged in magical combat.

Then, rebel ground troops attacked from three directions, and the marksmen in defensive positions fired their muskets at the charging enemies.

Both sides displayed their prowess, matching move for move.

Magic flared, eagle cries were unending, and the two artillery groups took turns roaring with fury!

As the scale of the battle continually expanded, its focus shifted from the Lord's Mansion to the plaza.
