My Enemy Became My Cultivation Companion

Chapter 358: Come Back Come Back_3

Every child who listens to stories dreams of becoming the people in those tales. Later, she began collecting dewdrops from lotus leaves, rolling rice into small balls as her Golden Core, imagining the day she could become immortal.

Then one day, a single cry of a crane echoed above the Prince Mansion. A kindly Immortal arrived, carried by the crane, and pointedly chose her as a disciple.

Back then, Yin Weiyin hid behind her parents, peeking her head out shyly and flashing the Immortal a bashful smile.

She knew—later, that Immortal would become her mentor, Yu Zhen, the True Yuan Sovereign.

After that, came her journey to Taihua Mountain to study the Way and cultivate. Though the time spent was only three short years, the life atop the mountain left a vivid imprint.

Those people came gliding on clouds and left riding the winds; when Yu Zhen Sovereign saw her curiosity, she brought her to the clouds, helping her traverse the mist and guiding her around the mountains.

Beside them were cranes, two of which she named — one "Jade Dew" and the other "Golden Wind," borrowing the sentiment from the saying "When Golden Wind meets Jade Dew…" Both cranes seemed pleased, flapping their wings and hopping about excitedly.

Three years passed in mountain cultivation, and upon returning to the Prince Mansion, she began practicing at home. She did not carry distractions and dedicated herself tirelessly to bitter training.

Now looking back, however painstaking her efforts had been, life on the mountain had instilled in her a certain pridefulness.

Images flickered and slowly lost their color.

Only now did Yin Weiyin realize—there wasn't any arduous life at all, just one scene after another rolling past like shadow play.

The sound of rushing water rose beside her ears.

The riverwaters stretched endlessly, overwhelming her entire sight.

From first dim and dull, they grew heavy with depth, more and more water surging forth; waves leapt up, wind-wept cries blending amidst them as they pushed Yin Weiyin farther away.

The reincarnation waters swallowed her whole—not as noisy as she had imagined—but within the currents lay nothing but silence, a profound stillness.

She continued staring blankly in that direction, unable to find the figure of the one who had departed earlier even as she sank beneath the flood.

Had he already reincarnated?

As that thought sparked like a fleeting ember, Yin Weiyin had already been consumed by the river.

Huangquan River—silent as death itself, her soul slipped free from its corporeal shell and melted into the waters that bore countless souls.

The river ran deep—so deep as to inspire dread even against the current. Human souls within it were minuscule as mustard seeds, scattered and dispersed throughout.

She, too, was but one tiny fish among them.

Still, it remained quiet—a primordial stillness before the heavens and earth took form—a dense silence that engulfed you, swallowing even the sounds you carried.

Whatever you wished to say, no one would hear you.

Yin Weiyin bore the cleansing of Huangquan, her heart suddenly tainted with a disarray of chaos. She could not discern where she was sinking.

Everything lost color before her eyes, and all seemed to pass like fleeting glimpses.

"Wei Ying, farewell…"

Out of nowhere, a voice swept past her ears.

Yin Weiyin turned her head and saw amidst the river currents, her mother gesturing toward her with tears in her eyes, bidding a sorrowful goodbye.

It seemed like a hallucination…

Yin Weiyin wanted to reach for her, but her figure was fragmented by the river in an instant, drifting farther and farther away.

Further and further away.

Before Yin Weiyin could gather her senses,

"Silly child… in the next life, let us be master and disciple again."

Yu Zhen Sovereign's face appeared before her; the Immortal sighed softly and turned away within the stream.

The rushing waters consumed her mentor's presence like mist dissolving into waves.

And then, Yin Weiyin saw another familiar face appear.

It was the Prince Mansion's eldest son, Yin Xing.

"Sister, oh Sister… how could you leave like this?"

The eldest son's figure suddenly emerged; he reached out toward Yin Weiyin, calling her back. Yin Weiyin wanted to scream, but the Huangquan River instantly separated them once again.

Yin Weiyin seemed to shed tears, though she wasn't sure—could souls cry?

If they could, then these tears had surely been lost to the depths of the river.

Within the water was the faint sound of weeping.

She saw countless faces.

One after another—the people she remembered—blurred increasingly within her memory.

Each seemed to be bidding her farewell.

Even her father appeared.

The King of Jing seemed desperately struggling in the waters, trying to grab hold of Yin Weiyin:

"Wei Ying, Wei Ying! Wait for your father!"

But in the end, the surging waves pushed them farther apart.

Yin Weiyin heard the hoarseness of a wailing voice.

"Goodbye…"

Those words struck something within Yin Weiyin's heart. She turned sharply, watching one figure after another grow distant until they became mere untraceable black dots, departing together with all that once belonged to her past life.

The waves churned, carrying echoes of lament.

Yin Weiyin began to struggle. She was like a fish swimming upstream, fighting with all her strength.

She wanted to return!

She didn't want to succumb to reincarnation like this!

Yin Weiyin struggled desperately, her soul kernel colliding against the rushing waters, waves breaking around her.

The river, laden with mysterious yellow Qi, bore crushing weight, pounding upon Yin Weiyin's three souls and Seven Spirits. Against the torrential flood, her resistance proved frail.

She felt her soul fracturing bit by bit in the currents.

But she truly wished to return!

The boundless Huangquan River roared and surged, as if it were screaming at Yin Weiyin, mocking her naivety, demanding to know—how many souls resist reincarnation? And does it ever matter?!

The endless waters swept over her, tossing the little fish-like Yin Weiyin again and again, causing trembles throughout her three souls and Seven Spirits. At last, she seemed unable to hold on.

Bang…

She really couldn't hold on any longer.

Yin Weiyin's form fell backward as Huangquan River enfolded her, propelling her soul toward its next life.

Her figure sank deeper and deeper. In dazed thought, she recalled the shadowy soul-woman who had vanished like smoke.

Back then, that soul-woman had reached out her hand—now here she was herself, reaching out too.

Their likeness was uncanny…

Her heart sank; it felt as though everything from the past had died. A cold truth lay bare before her, proclaiming an unchanging principle…

So this is the way it is…

So, this is reincarnation…

It turns out that reincarnation truly means separation.

Yin Weiyin's form began disintegrating within the Huangquan River, growing fainter and thinner, just like that tiny fish who had struggled to its last breath but could fight no longer.

As the waters rushed on, she closed her eyes.

She carried innumerable sentiments of reluctance…

"Goodbye…"

She murmured softly, not knowing to whom those words were addressed.

But then, through the raging currents, a figure broke through!

The hand that should have dissolved into mist was suddenly grasped tightly by someone's palm.

The figure that had been carried far away by the river was abruptly stopped, being drawn back instead.

Yin Weiyin opened her eyes, hearing that familiar voice by her ear:

"Come back!"

His throat burst forth with the sound,

"Yin Weiyin!"

He held onto her.

He caught her at the brink of her collapse.

His form likewise wavered amidst the waters, stumbling and battered, yet he firmly held Yin Weiyin's soul in his grasp.

Yin Weiyin could no longer hold back—this wretched, miserable little fish swam toward him and embraced him as she finally broke into tears.

"You came back!"

Perhaps,

Reincarnation isn't meant for separation,

But for reunion.
