Rumble!
The thunder roared, and the purple lightning tore through the sky, making the girl standing in the rain tremble uncontrollably.
Her eyes were full of anticipation, the red oil-paper umbrella appeared helpless in the torrential rain. She tightened her cicada-thin top, the hem of her skirt was already torn during the chase by bandits, revealing half of her smooth, white calf.
Yet now that exquisite calf was covered in bruises, all scars from her frantic escape, smeared with mud, looking exceptionally battered, even her once smooth black hair was now dripping in strands from the rain.
She watched longingly in the direction where the Immortal Master had left earlier; although it brought a sense of security, it still made her anxious. Uncle Qian, though skillful, was not a cultivator, and he was injured; the longer it dragged on, the worse his injuries would get, filling her heart with worry.
"Not back yet..."
Standing motionless in place.
Holding the oil-paper umbrella while standing there, it was only then she discovered that she had somehow kicked off one of her embroidered shoes. Although it was summer, the recent days had cooled significantly, and the arrival of the rainy season had dropped the temperature in Qingshui County by tens of degrees.
With this rain drenching her body, even if this journey went smoothly and she returned home, she might still fall seriously ill, but she gripped the umbrella tightly, striving to see into the distance.
Time passed excruciatingly slow, and the wait felt endless; it had actually only been ten minutes since Wu Daoxu had departed, but for her, it felt longer than several hours. Finally, a faint, indistinct figure limped towards her from afar, upon closer look, it was a horse.
"Is that..."
The horse galloped forward, snorting, and the girl approached it only to discover another person arriving behind the horse, carrying someone familiar in their hand.
"Uncle Qian, Uncle Qian! Immortal Master, I am here!"
She waved her little hand vigorously, tears of relief welled up in her eyes after surviving the ordeal, especially seeing the Immortal Master bringing her uncle back, she ran towards them with small but determined steps, knowing that he was one of the few close relatives she had left. After their family's downfall, many chose to change their identities and flee to avoid being implicated.
Yet, the girl named Xue Caiyan refused to leave her homeland, even when Xue Ming and Xue Wuwei were scorned and vilified; she still came each year risking being discovered by enemies, spending two months locally before departing.
Those willing to stay with her, part of the Xue family line, were now very few.
Since birth, Uncle Qian had served the Xue family, and hasn't changed to this day. Even her father was reluctant to come and pay respects to his brother, fearing entanglement. If it wasn't for Uncle Qian's capabilities, her father would have taken her away or married her off long ago.
"Uncle Qian! Uncle Qian, are you alright, why, why so many wounds..."
She rushed forward anxiously.
The pale-faced Wu Daoxu placed the Qian family guardian on the ground. By the time he arrived, the guardian was covered in blood and wounds, with no fewer than dozens of large and small injuries, skin and flesh rolled, looking shocking. Under the heavy rain, his complexion was turning pale from grave blood loss.
The man had already fallen unconscious; in fact, after Wu Daoxu arrived and slain the bandits, he could no longer hold his tension, having persevered solely on adrenaline before, now he couldn't bear it anymore.
The man watched silently, flicking his large hand towards the sky, isolating the downpour as though it shattered upon hitting glass, protecting the three within. However, this action visibly paled his already pale face further, proving that he was a heavily wounded man himself.
His arm was crippled, blood and vital energy drained, even his Divine Soul had been forcibly cut away partly; honestly, with these injuries, any normal cultivator would have fallen, yet he still exerted himself to use Spiritual Energy, indicating his poor physical state.
However, he wasn't one to complain; he believed in saving people until the end, rescuing them thoroughly, regardless of time or place, valuing human life above all, even if he had to endure physical discomfort to save lives first.
"Miss Xue, don't worry, let me take a look."
"Yes! Please, Immortal Master, save my uncle's life..."
Nodding desperately, on any ordinary day, she might be in awe of the Immortal Master's casual efficacy shielding the rain, but now she couldn't pay any attention to these things, gripping the wound tightly trying to slow the blood loss.
He extended his hand.
Carefully sensing the changes within the other's body, a subtle aura rose around, enshrouding them. Even the huge rainstorm in the sky began to subtly shift under his hand, nearby were vertical raindrops seemingly influenced by air currents.
The rain slowly swirled, forming a small vortex overhead. This was the transformation brought about by a cultivator mobilizing Spiritual Energy, infusing it into the body to heal wounds continuously. Although a crude method, it plugged the wound, at least stopping the bleeding on the spot.
His face grew uglier, frowning deeply, because this man's condition was far worse than he imagined.
"He must have been injured before the battle; I noticed traces on the ground when I severed the horse's reins. Likely when the carriage was overturned, he was thrown out, breaking his bones and piercing internal organs. He has eleven wounds on his body; if not treated, it's hard to assure his survival."
Her face instantly turned ashen!
