Mage Legend

Chapter 734: Legends and Legends in Legends Chapter Thirty-Two Black Stone_3

Zilvra lifted the Elf Cloak from her body and walked to the side of the Obelisk, starting to examine the thing carefully. The black stone had no flaw, nor any pattern. This obelisk seemed to have been carved from a single large stone rather than constructed by some method of joining.

Zilvra placed her hand on it and then quickly withdrew her fair hand as if shocked by electricity. She said in surprise, "Lynch, this thing is actually soft!"

Lynch stood beside her, also immediately testing it with his hand. This thing was not just soft; it was as if it didn't exist, akin to air. Except for a feeling of outward thrust—as the hand went deeper, this force grew stronger—the Mage didn't believe he had actually touched anything.

"Lynch, do you know what this is? Could it be a new kind of Magic Material?" Zilvra sniffed the air with her nose and found the Mage's direction. She said, "Is the Obelisk protecting something? If the force is strong enough, maybe its secret can be discovered."

The Mage cautiously extended his left hand of Refined Gold into it, but even with magic-enhanced strength, he couldn't push very far. Lynch lifted his right index finger, and a purple-red Magic Missile Light Sphere drilled into the black Obelisk. Since he aimed at the center of the stone monument, the Magic Missile wouldn't stop advancing until it reached the target.

But just then, the purple Light Sphere froze in the middle of the Obelisk, like a bubble in a gemstone, suspended there conspicuously. Frowning, Lynch was pondering what this situation indicated when the Magic Missile Light Sphere suddenly changed direction, shooting towards Lynch at an incredibly fast speed.

A blue Light Shield appeared between the Mage and the Magic Missile. The purple Light Sphere collided with it, erupting with a bit of white sparks, which were immediately extinguished. The few characters around the black stone monument suddenly lit up, and Lynch hurriedly pulled Zilvra back.

"I don't know what kind of attack method this strange thing has." Lynch said, "Stand here and don't move, I will shield you, and the magical defense on you will automatically protect you."

Zilvra nodded, her eyes locked onto the black Obelisk.

A ripple spread out from the Obelisk, followed by a second one. In the blink of an eye, the entire thing began to shake, becoming blurry due to the vibrations. Lynch stood in front of Zilvra, with the Arcane Wand held across his chest. The Great Mage was cautious, fully focused on the movements of the Obelisk.

A carriage emerged from it, driven by a Snake-man.

Then, many carts full of building materials appeared out of nowhere from the location of the Obelisk. The Snake-man drivers unloaded the contents onto the open space in the room. Besides large logs and huge stones weighing half a ton, quite a few swords and armors were also delivered.

Fortunately, Zilvra dropped to the ground immediately, her Elf Cloak helping her remain unseen, avoiding detection by the Snake-man. Lynch, Invisible, thoughtfully observed the glowing symbols on the ground while waiting for the Snake-men to finish unloading.

A team of Bear Goblins entered from outside the gate. These pitiful creatures often formed raiding parties on human villages and were also slaves of stronger creature groups. Under the scolding of a black Snake-man, they systematically moved the wood outside the room, transporting it to the construction site.

The Snake-men didn't stay here long, likely finding the cold weather uncomfortable. The Snake-man driving the cart was green, the most ordinary kind that only existed several years ago. They neither had Lightning Immunity nor, like brown Snake-men, could resist severe cold. As soon as the glowing characters on the ground changed arrangement, they drove the cart back towards the Obelisk.

Lynch gently patted Zilvra, whispering, "Let's leave here."

Getting out was much simpler than getting in. The Bear Goblins hauling things not only distracted the guards' senses with their stench but also created confusion, providing cover for the two intruders. When passing by the corpses of the two Snake-men guards again, Lynch turned one into a Ghoul.

Then, the Snake-man Ghoul started to ravage the other corpse relentlessly until it was unrecognizable. When other Snake-men discovered a Ghoul in the camp, they would unhesitatingly kill it, then burn every inch of its flesh and skin. Thus, no one could deduce from the scars on the two Snake-men bodies that a skilled Assassin had infiltrated the place.

When they were about half a league from the camp, the heavy snow in the air surely obscured the Snake-men's vision and the trail of the two. Lynch lifted the Invisibility, allowing Zilvra to see him.

"That thing is for teleportation!" Zilvra confirmed, "It's like the teleportation gates of the First Family, used to transfer supplies and soldiers. Looks like that Big Snake intends to launch a surprise attack behind everyone's back."

"It's not just that," Lynch nodded, saying, "He might intend to expand gains as much as possible while others are unprepared, closing the gap between the Snake-men and other races, then retreating into a fortress, passing the burden of a war of attrition onto his opponents. And with an Obelisk capable of teleportation, he could amass a large force at any given time and place to launch a swift assault. It's quite a clever plan."

"You're not nearly as good as the Big Snake," Zilvra smiled, patting Lynch on the shoulder, "Didn't you say you had three Arcane Scrolls? And the Big Snake only has two at most. He mastered Space Magic and devised so many tactics, how can you not come up with any solution?"

"It's not that I haven't thought of it, but I can't apply what I've thought of," Lynch replied, "For instance, using the power of the Magic Origin, I could create a golem army, although they could only operate within a five-kilometer range around the Flying Fortress, they would be invincible; if I equipped troops with various temporary magical items, any soldiers near me could fight with Divine Artifact Level weapons. Not to mention I could use magic directly to bury the Snake-man army or summon Devils to fight for me…"

Lynch sighed softly, looking at Zilvra, "But doing so would have great aftereffects, the consequence of massive magic consumption is the resurrection of the Magic God. Unless absolutely necessary, I don't want to face such an apocalyptic scenario."

"It's truly a stifling battle," Zilvra said somewhat unsatisfactorily, kicking up the snow on the ground with her foot, "Then how can we eliminate the advantage the Snake-men have of transporting troops through teleportation with only the means at hand?"

"Do you know the creature called a mole? They dig extensive tunnel networks underground, leaving many openings on the surface. No one knows where they'll pop up," Lynch explained, "But in fact, you need only flood any of these holes with plenty of water to force the moles out while destroying the tunnel network."

Lynch patted his chest, saying to Zilvra, "I've recorded all those characters. As soon as we decipher the teleportation order, the Snake-men will find a terrifying legendary Snake Catcher traveling through their lair."
