My Favorite Game Followed Me!

Chapter 599

During the next several days of travel to the kingdom of Mendoza, Ormunda's "Special Forces" did not receive any more attacks from the Undead Coalition. If there were any other kind of attacks from the enemy, like hidden or stealthy attacks, Anton and his squad did not receive any information about them.

The travel was fairly good with occasional summer rains. The morning was sunny, but the breeze alleviated the temperature. Even though it was summer, the temperature felt to Anton that it did not climb past 28 degrees Celsius.

The nights were a little cold, but not to the point that Anton needed to activate one of his Firewall stoves for heat.

Unfortunately for Anton, he couldn't level up his ladder Paladin since his Dire Bear was never returned to him. The situation was a little amusing since, apparently, it wasn't Major Mason who was using the Dire Bear anymore, but one of General Rumbert's men. He did not know exactly who was using the Dire Bear, but Anton did not care. What he knew was, the bear was still close because if his summon went far from his range, it would disappear from where it was and reappear by his side. Anton made sure that Captain Leonard was aware of that, and he was sure that his captain told his leaders about it.

At first, Anton thought of using one of his Dire Wolves or even his Telekinesis to travel while leveling up his Diablo II ladder character. He had done it before when he and his family were in the middle of the ocean, escaping the Undead Coalition, but instead, he decided to simply march with his teammates and just join in the general fun.

Because of that, Anton was getting close to Captain Leonard and his squad members, which he wanted to avoid since he felt that he couldn't handle any more losses after the tragedy in the ocean. At least for now. The fact that they were heading towards a battle meant that the probability that people would die was high.

Since he couldn't do anything about the situation, Anton just shrugged and accepted whatever came his way. He was an 18-year-old kid, and Anton felt that his mental age regressed to that age as well, and because of that, he had the tendency to behave like a man that age.

Besides, walking allowed him to appreciate the surrounding areas and Anton had to admit that the Gale Continent was a beautiful place with its vast plains, sprawling vistas of wheat fields, majestic mountain ranges in the distance, wide varieties of flora and faunas and the tiny animals that he could see among the emerald trees who were curious enough to look at the army of men marching on the roads.

Unfortunately, due to their large number, most animals ran away from the groups, so the only animals that Anton could see or the small ones.

Anton was even a little impressed at the command from the higher-ups that hunting in the forest was not allowed since the special forces army was carrying a huge amount of supplies inside spatial items. The upper echelons of Ormunda's Special Army did not want to decimate the surrounding forest.

During lunch, Anton would join his squad in eating what the cooks served, but during dinner, he went inside his tiny house and just told everyone that he was full. The fact was, he chose to eat some of the prepared food that he had in his inventory since it was much better compared to what the army had been serving.

If Anton wanted to, he could have helped his squad members in a lot more ways using his spells, like using his auras to make sure that they were fully healthy or their stamina was always full, but again, he didn't want his squad members to become dependent on him. They were still not even aware that he could heal.

At least most of the summer rains that fell on the army happened during the day. That meant that during nighttime rest, they didn't have to set up tents, and only Anton bothered with his tiny house. The advantage of not setting up tents was that his Captain and his squad member could set up their sleeping bags near his tiny house so that everyone would be affected by Anton's Pearl of the Ocean.

After more than 10 days of travel, they finally reached the outskirts of the kingdom of Mendoza, and to everyone's horror, they could see that the huge kingdom was being besieged by an equally gigantic army of undead.

They were still far enough away that Mendoza looked tiny, and the undead army looked like ants trying to conquer a huge mound of soil. Even at their distance, the undead armies looked horrifying. They could see different-sized creatures trying to destroy the walls of Mendoza, and they didn't know what kind of creatures the Undead Coalition was utilizing.

Based on what Anton could see, the armies of Ormunda, New Drennor, and Mendoza were inside the kingdom that was surrounded by impressively high and thick walls. The undead armies were attacking the west side of the walls of Mendoza while three combined armies tried their best to defend the kingdom. The walls glimmered with magic, and Anton knew that a lot of mages were concentrating their spells to make sure that the stone walls remained impervious to the undead attacks.

The Special Forces army from Ormunda wasn't the only army arriving. According to Captain Leonard, reinforcement also came from New Drennor, and the process of recruiting people was still ongoing in both kingdoms of Ormunda and New Drennor.

They entered the East Gate of the kingdom, and Anton's squad was assigned to one of the sections of the west wall. When they entered the kingdom, they had to immediately travel to the West Wall, which would take them at least an hour. Mendoza was a huge kingdom, and the Undead Coalition, fearless in attacking such a huge kingdom, probably had the confidence to think that they had the power to conquer it.

What amazed Anton was that the people of Mendoza near the East Gate seemed to still be living ordinary lives, not bothered by the huge, terrifying army trying to conquer their kingdom. The expected chaos started to appear the nearer they were to the west wall. After an hour of walking, Anton's squad reached the barracks where they were assigned to stay while they were in Mendoza. Their first shift was to join the group of people defending a section of the West Wall, and their first shift was midnight till eight in the morning. The girls in the team complained about the shift hours, but they soon understood that newly arrived people would serve the night shift first. The shift would rotate every couple of weeks, which made Anton wonder how long the war would last.

Since it was late afternoon, their first shift was still around seven hours away. Captain Leonard advised everyone that they should rest for at least a few hours before their shift, but the captain gave them the next few hours. Everyone agreed to return to the barracks at around eight in the evening so they could rest before their first shift, and with Anton's Pearl of the Ocean, those few hours would be enough for them to rest as long as they slept near each other.

Unfortunately for Suvina, Mauri, and Fran, they were assigned to another barracks composed of only females, so that meant that only the men would be able to enjoy Anton's Pearl of the Ocean. Since they couldn't do anything about the assignments, the girls simply went to their assigned barracks to rest immediately, while the men went to the city to check the nightlife there, which, in hindsight, felt weird to Anton.
