Trigger and Zac's group were hidden deep in a thick tree canopy, created by Sage, deep in the Tierras Bajas forest near the Guatemala border. Though hidden, they had a clear view of the Mayan ruins in the distance, along with The Numbers of Veridahn making their way to their destination.
"Are you sure this is the spot?" Veystral asked, looking towards Zac.
"Yeah, this is the exact location given to me," Zac responded.
"Really, why would they set up at a tourist location?" Veystral asked again.
"It's always easier to hide in plain sight. Also, while this may be a tourist attraction, it is very much off the beaten path. Plus, they can't be too far away from human civilization." Zac answered with a smirk.
When Zac, Devin, and Shaila were thinking of locations to build their main bases, Zac suggested something like this. It was isolated, but not too isolated; they could easily pose Chasers as security guards, and any unexplained or unusual events happening in the area could be disregarded as dramatic tourist superstition.
While Shaila seemed to agree with him, Devin was very much against it. Zac didn't understand it at the time. After all, Devin had far more experience in that world than he did. However, now it all was beginning to make sense.
"I wouldn't be surprised if the security guards that manage the area were Persequion themselves. It would make sense." Sage said.
"Do the Numbers know that?" Trigger asked.
"If they can't even figure out that much, there's no use in having them around," Zidane said as he lay out on the canopy created by Sage.
"Are you sure those kids can handle it?" Veystral asked.
"Not at all."
"Hell no."
"No, stupid."
"Improbable…"
"I doubt it."
Zac and the crew answered simultaneously. Zac saw Veystral's confused look and chuckled.
"If I thought they could handle it, I wouldn't have bothered to come watch them. I just want to see how far they can go before we need to jump in." Zac's eyes locked in on Number 1, who was leading the team. He had very high expectations of that lazy elf.
Deep within the dark forest, Number 1 leaned against a tree watching Number 2 with his head and hands on the ground. Small systems were formed on the tips of his fingers. Those systems funneled massive amounts of information to the Titan Orc. After a while, he opened his eyes, and Number 1 asked,
"What did you see?"
"There's a lot of them, crammed down there like rats. I couldn't get a full layout of their facility. There's too much tech interfering with what I can see." Number 2 huffed as he folded his arms.
He was visibly upset as he rushed to the front door, bashing everything in sight. However, their leader had other ideas. Number looked at Number 3, the "young" dwarf, and asked.
"You think you can guide us once we're inside?"
"That won't be a problem."
"Great! Remember, our mission is to attack the base, not destroy it. Ultimately we are here to hack their database and get as much information as possible. Understood?" Number 1, he asked as he yawned.
"Understood, but how do you suggest we make our way through the base? It's going to be swarming with Persequions. While I'm confident in our strength, I don't think we can handle an entire base, especially in such tight quarters." Number 6, a young vampire woman spoke.
"You specifically won't have to. Number 4, Number 5, and I will cause trouble out here for them. Once they clear out the base a bit, Number 2, Number 3, and Number 6 will infiltrate. Number 2: carve out a…" Before he could finish his train of thought, Number stomped his foot.
"You're going to fight out here while I play spy!?" Number 2 shout-whispered, not completely forgetting his mission.
"Noooo, while we act as a distraction out here, you can go wild on the inside. That way, Number 3 and Number 6 can move around freely." Number 1 gave the Titan Orc a sly smile and then winked at Number 6, who was dumbfounded.
It was obvious that he only sent Number 2 with the infiltration squad because he could manipulate Earth to get them there as quickly as possible. But with just a simple sentence he managed to placate the brute. Number 6 chuckled to herself as she folded her arms.
"Alright, first things first. Number 4 and Number 5, let's set the mood." Number 1 propped himself off the tree as he walked towards the ruins. The rest of the group followed behind him. As he moved forward, his fingers danced through the night air like he was conducting an orchestra. Each wave of his fingers created a system that flew into the forest in a different direction. In the distance, Sage's annoyed gaze focused on Number 1.
He was creating systems like nothing when she had been struggling up to this point. Although she could do things naturally, thanks to her program, that some elves needed systems to accomplish, she was still unsatisfied with her progress. She clicked her tongue as she tried to glean something from his actions.
Under Number 1's command, the vegetation became more lush and alive. He looked over his shoulder at Number 5, who simply nodded. The Leviathans were graced with not only the ability to assume massive serpentine forms in large bodies of water, but they also could control the weather and its elements.
At Number 5's will, a thick, large wave of fog began to roll in through the area. Without being told, Number 4 let out an eerie giggle as her body melted away. Kitsune were mischievous tricksters. They could take on any form and make their victim see anything.
Number 1 and Number 5 had essentially created a playground for her to have the time of her life. Her giggling quickly faded along with her visage as she went to find her first victim.
A security guard outside of the ruins looked over his shoulder as the rolling fog came in. He frowned as it was clearly unnatural. He touched his left ear and said,
"We have a problem up here. A thick fog is rolling in." A voice came in from the other end that responded,
"We're sending support immediately. It may be The Anomaly and his group."
"The Anomaly? Shit… that's exactly what I don't need." The guard frowned.
He hoped that was not the case and couldn't understand how it was. What would he want from this place? They barely had any troubles in this area, and they didn't interact with anything other than the odd tourist from time to time. It wasn't all bad; they were ultimately all humans, and he had no ill will towards the Anomaly. Perhaps they could have a dialogue. Before he could fully process his options, the fog filled the area.
He slowly walked through the fog, trying to make heads or tails of what was going on. A giggle echoed from the fog that sent a shiver down the guard's spine. He frantically looked around, trying to tell where it was coming from. When he thought he had pinpointed the sound, several more giggles echoed in the fog.
"Shit… that's not the Anomaly, and there's multiple…"
"Helloooo!" A sweet voice whispered in his ear.
The guard jumped away with his back hitting a wall of the ruins. In front of him was a pair of glowing fox eyes. His breathing quickened as he saw multiple white tails dancing behind her. The giggling began to pick up once again…
"Shit… shit shit shit…" The man quickly began to run through the fog. He prided himself on his abilities, but he was not suited to fight a Kitsune. No human was. Kitsune with more than 3 tails was one of the few creatures they were told to not engage if possible. Only Theronites stood a chance against them.
The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
"Send backup now!!"
"They are already at the scene."
"No, send everyone you can spare; it's Kitsune, multiple Kitsune. One definitely has at least 4 tails… we need all the help we can. Aargh!" The man's words were cut off before he could finish his thoughts. His body was snatched into the fog.
"Hello?!! Hello!?" The Persequion on the other end tried to get more information.
"Hellooooo!" A whimsical voice answered.
"Who are you?" The voice on the other end asked the creature.
"I'm called Number 4… Your friend is taking a nap. I'll be sure to treat him well for all eternity." Her dreamy voice dripped with venom.
"How many of you are there?" The Persequion on the other end remained composed. Using everything he had learned about these creatures to his advantage. Kitsune was playful and talkative. He was sure he could get information out of it. However, to his surprise,
"Enough…" was the only response he got.
"Enough to what?"
"To destroy this Persequion base." His giggle echoed through the communicator.
The Persequion, on the other end, began to panic a bit. This wasn't a random attack; this was premeditated. This had never happened as far as he could remember. If that was the case, it was obvious that he wasn't getting anything from her.
"I'm going to enjoy the pelt I craft from your hide." The Persequion voice echoed over the communicator.
"Oh, that sounds fun… byeee." Number 4 crushed the communicator and looked to her left. She heard a mechanical mechanism as one of the walls of the ruins opened. She faded into the fog watching Persequion pour out of the base.
"Looks like I got their attention." She reported to the others as she stood near the Persequion running out into the spreading fog. Her voice could not be heard, nor could she be seen.
"Good, be on the lookout for us and pick off any that stray too far from the pack." Number 1 was called out.
"Will do, sir… 6 of them are heading towards the east, 30 meters from your position." Number 4 reported as she walked past a Persequion, slicing his throat with her claws.
The night sky began to fill with clouds. However, none of the Persequions could tell, as they all had their vision obscured by the fog. One of the Persequions grunted as he produced a strong wind to blow away the fog. However, to his dismay, his wind went stagnant. He didn't understand why until a figure walked into view within the fog.
"What… what the hell is that thing doing here? I thought we were fighting Kitsune?! Report, someone report—" At that moment a crash of lightning struck the group.
"The longer we can keep them confused and disoriented, the longer we can last. I admit, this was a good tactic…" Number 5 thought to himself as he walked past the charred bodies.
"Numbers 2, 3, and 6… time to make your move." Number 1 called out, as he leaned against a tree that had several dead Persequion hanging from its branches. He turned his head to look in the direction where he knew Zac and the others were watching and smiled.
"Cocky little shit." Roisin bellowed.
"Let him have his moment; they are doing well." Kenji chuckled.
Number 2's touched the ground beneath his feet, with a wide grin. A system formed and moved the earth around the system as it lowered them into the ground. In seconds, they found themselves half a mile deep and touching something metal beneath their feet. Number 3 tapped the large Titan Orc on the back of his leg and said,
"I'll take it from here, big guy." The dwarf touched the metal, and it instantly folded in on itself. The three of them dropped down into what seemed to be a storage room. Number 6 looked at the dwarf and asked,
"I assume you already took out the cameras?"
"Took out? No, I just made it so we appear invisible on their screens. It will take them longer to figure out what's going on." Number 3, he said as he fiddled with a 3D screen that appeared over his forearm. He hummed to himself and then turned around.
"Well, just don't stand there, big guy; start destroying the storage while I map this place." Number 3 and 6 looked at Number 2, who looked bored out of his mind. Number 2 huffed in annoyance and then took his axe in hand. With a single swing, a pressure wave destroyed everything in the storage area. Weapons, equipment, medical supplies, everything reduced to rubble.
In an impressive display of control, that pressure did not touch the wall, causing only the slightest vibrations. Number 6 raised an eyebrow; she was honestly quite impressed by Number 2. He was far more in control of his emotions than most young Titan Orcs. I guess that was to be expected given who his father was. If he couldn't control himself, one youthful outburst could cost him his life.
"Ok, we can start now." Number 3 walked over the rubble, ignoring everything around him. He opened the door, still looking down at the screen on his wrist, and said,
"The main control hub will be down this way."
Number 3 pointed down a hallway that was sterile white. Unlike the main Heka base, which was seamlessly melded into nature, this one seemed more stock standard for your typical secret underground base. However, its metal walls and high-tech surroundings made this a perfect place for Number 3 to fully display his abilities.
"Alright, then, Number 2, go make as much noise as possible that way. Go as wild as you want, as long as you don't bring this place down on top of us." Number 6 said as she and Number 3 started to walk in the opposite direction.
A smile finally washed over Number 2's face as he gripped his axe and charged down the hallway screaming at the top of his lungs. As he raced down the hall, Number 3 looked over at Number 6 and asked,
"Do you think you can scout up ahead? You'll need to go straight down this hallway, take the first left, third right, fourth left, first right, and then another right. You'll be where the main control room is at."
"Got it…" Number 6 said as she turned into a cloud of mist and shot down the hallway faster than the human eye could follow.
"Curse these short legs." Number 3 complained as he stopped his jogging and formed a system. He then began to float in the air using electromagnetism and the metal surrounding him to support himself.
"Ah, much better." He chuckled as he looked down at his wrist while the system floated him down the designated path he set at its creation.
In the main control room, the lone soul managing everything at the moment had an inquisitive look on their face. They had felt some vibrations, but nothing was being picked up on the cameras. This was one of the more neglected bases that Heka had because they were more or less in Selistar's Chasers' jurisdiction, but their equipment was still up to par enough to pick up on the disturbances, yet nothing was showing up.
"I don't like this…" They had a bad feeling about what was going on. The sudden attack outside and the weirdness going on inside.
"Are the monsters organized enough to…"
"Reporting! Reporting!!"
"What… what's going on?" The control room answered,
"Inside, there's a Titan Orc inside the base!! We're having… argh!"
"Titan Orc?! What the fuck…" Control Room, they mumbled to themselves. He was about to call for support to assist with the Titan Orc but then froze.
"No… Kitsune, Orc… reports of fog, lightning striking down a group, and the forest attacking them." His fingers started furiously tapping as he looked up all the information he could. His breathing began to pick up as he said,
"Weather control, Leviathan… nature… Elf…seamless interference with tech… Dwarf… shit, shit shit shit shit shit… Titan Orc, Kitsune… Why?" There had never been any data that these creatures interacted with each other, let alone worked together. Hell, just sighting one of the creatures mentioned in a lifetime was a small miracle; why were they all together?
"What could possibly bring all of them to…get…her? FUCK!" The image of a dragon passed through his mind. He was panicked, but he would not let that stop him from doing what needed to be done. He feverishly began to type up a report, and just as he finished, he felt a pinch in his chest.
He looked down to see a delicate protrusion from his chest where his heart used to be. He stumbled away, turning away to see a bundle of mist quickly turn into a humanoid form.
"A fucking noble vampire, why am I not surprised?" The man and the control stumbled onto the floor in disgust.
Just by looking at the way the young woman carried herself, he could tell that she was of the noble breed of vampire. She wasn't one of those ghoul-like creatures that could barely form sentences and attack indiscriminately. She's a pure-blooded, honest-to-God vampire. With how she carried herself, he assumed she was the one leading this group.
"You figured all this out with so little information to go off on? You are truly impressive, I'll give you that." Number 6, she said as she scanned over the report the man had been writing.
"Thanks, it's also uploaded in real-time… So I'm sure they're already sending a team of Theronites to finish taking you down." The man laughed as he coughed up a mouthful of blood.
"In real-time, you say, and I assume you have someone at your main base constantly checking. Oh, dear… Number 3, could you not stop it?" As she asked, Number 3 floated into the room, causing the man in the control room to panic a bit. If anyone could have stopped it, it would have been him.
"Unfortunately, no. That would require me to have control of their entire worldwide network; that would take a few hours to pull off." Number 3 answered as he floated over towards the control console.
The man still bleeding out on the ground started to chuckle in dismay. A couple of hours to take control of their entire network? He knew that the top of the food chain of the Monsters was something they could not contend with, yet. However, he didn't think the gap was so wide or that they were working together. As he was pondering, more startling news arose.
"Did you hear that, Lord Cefketa?" The vampire asked.
"Yeah, I heard… You guys did well. We'll take it from here. Mythara will help you guys regroup in the control room." Zac relayed.
"Who the hell is Lord Cefketa?" The man in the control room whimpered out. Who the hell would someone as proud as a noble vampire refer to as Lord? Was it another older vampire?
"You're still alive? How tenuous. As for who Lord Cefketa is, I believe your Chasers know him as The Anomaly."
"SSSSSHhhhh….FUCK!" The man in the control room cursed as he saw his blood being forcefully drained from his body. It raced out of him, forming a ball of blood above Number 6's hand. He looked on in despair, wondering if all of this was worth it.
All these creatures that bordered on mythical even by Persequion standards were coming out, working together, to help the Anomaly. Was this the consequence of a dragon's rage? Was Seren so valuable that they all needed to die for her husband's mistake? His body turned into a husk, and his head folded over.
The ball of blood was condensed to the size of a baseball. Number 6 brought it to her lips and slurped it up. She licked her lips and chuckled.
"Delicious."
