Nightmares Paradise [LITRPG System Integration]

Chapter 106 "I Have Found A Dungeon!"

"This actually might be the coolest ability I have manifested from a fragment… other than you of course Rana," said Jon as he waved his index finger through the air in front of him, creating a three-dimensional construct using [Ten Thousand Threads].

Despite Jon's best efforts, the lines of the immaterial cube construct appeared squiggly and somewhat curved, certain sections overlapping with one another while others almost seemed rectangular or oblong.

Lowering his hand while being careful of the thread creating from his finger, Jon grinned before throwing a common stone he had picked up along the riverbank, throwing it towards the cube-shaped threads of spiritual energy.

This uninitiated rock, devoid of any spiritual energy, came into contact with near-imperceptible cube before being slashed in multiple places, falling to the ground in an assortment of unequal and misshapen pieces.

Looking down at the rock that he had thrown, or what was left of it at least, Jon could see that the smaller pieces now possessed unnaturally smooth surfaces to them. [Ten Thousand Threads] had slashed through the rock, almost as though Jon had thrown it through an industrial waterjet.

Jon had once seen a video of someone cutting an anvil using such a machine and wondered how such a dense but mortal object would hold up against his Fragment Of Slash.

'Against physical objects, or even physical projectiles, [Ten Thousand Threads] should display an overwhelming destructive might. I do want to see how it would interact with against a summoned weapon, or even a Mortal Ranked spiritual item though.'

Continuing to focus half of his attention on keeping his Fragment Of Slash active, Jon manifested Assail in his free hand. Raising the Spear Of Verdant Cedar, Jon haphazardly swung his summoned weapon towards his cube-shaped construct, watching as his woven threads resisted the swing for all of one second before shattering, dissipating into tiny motes of whiteish-purple light.

Glancing down at his verdant-green spear, Jon did not notice any damage to its blade, humming softly as he manifested another cube-shaped construct of weave natured spiritual energy.

This time, backing up several feet and placing his free hand on the ground, muttering the chant for [Wrath Of Green, Piercing Wood Eruption].

"Theirs is the savagery that accompanies creation. Theirs is the might that cradles the earth and sky. Theirs is the wrath, that announces destruction!"

The sands around where Jon's hand was placed during a bright citrus-green as his wood natured spiritual energy was imbued into the earth beneath him. Not even half a second later, Jon watched as a single piercing wood thorn erupted from the earth, shooting forward towards his weave natured construct.

Jon watched on, using his Minerva-Sagacity Eyes to observe the interactions between his Fragment Of Eruption and Fragment Of Slash.

To his surprise, the moment [Wrath Of Green, Piercing Wood Eruption] came into contact with [Ten Thousand Threads], his piercing wood thorn split off into several pieces, the sharpened tip of his Fragment Of Eruption growing distorted as it passed through his Fragment Of Slash.

It caused the angle at which Jon positioned [Wrath Of Green, Piercing Wood Eruption], to diverge from its original intended path.

The piercing wood thorn continued to be "slashed" by the weave natured construct for a few more seconds before the cube manifested from [Ten Thousand Threads] shattered underneath the overwhelming amount of physical matter passing through it.

The sections of the wood thorn which passed through the cube construct collapsed as [Ten Thousand Threads] vanished, causing Jon to raise an eyebrow as he continued to flow wood natured spiritual energy into his Fragment Of Eruption. His single wood construct continued to grow further and further towards the inherent limits of the Spell, even with half of it laying idly on the ground.

'Was I just imagining things? Or did [Wrath Of Green, Piercing Wood Eruption] only start to crumble after [Ten Thousand Threads] was cancelled?'

Jon repeated the process once more, angling his Fragment Of Eruption so that it would manifest almost parallel to the ground. Watching as his piercing wood thorn came into contact with the cube construct, Jon let out a small sigh, seeing that his initial suspicions were incorrect.

The moment his Fragment Of Eruption came into contact with his Fragment Of Slash, the wood construct was no longer able to support its own weight being after having been slashed along the length of its tip. The wooden thorn crashed against the sands, more whiteish-purple motes of spiritual energy fading away and absorbed into the ambient mana around Jon.

'Well, that hypothesis was completely wrong,' Jon felt his cheeks flush pink, before scratching the top of his head, halting the flow of spiritual energy to his Fragment Of Eruption and Fragment Of Slash.

His experiments using [Ten Thousand Threads] had yielded interesting results to say the least. Although not explicitly stated within the effect description, [Ten Thousand Threads] would continue to produce threads even if Jon did not want his Fragment Of Slash to do so. If he cancelled his Spell, whatever construct of threads he created would vanish alongside any excess threads produced.

Although obvious after the fact, Jon had found out the hard way that he was not immune to the damaging effects of [Ten Thousand Threads]. When Jon tried to wrap the Spell around his finger in an attempt to control it, he received weave natured damage to his right index finger, almost slashing himself down to the bone while doing so.

Jon sat down beside the dissipating remnants of his Fragment Of Eruption. [Wrath Of Green, Piercing Wood Eruption] was one of the few abilities that Jon did not have a plan regarding its development and progression after becoming a Knight.

"It is one of your few ranged offensive options. Perhaps a Fragment Of Preparation might allow you to store up charges of the Spell beforehand? Although a Fragment Of Multiplication would undoubtedly amplify the number of branches manifested even without increasing spiritual energy expenditure.'

"If you are willing to spend a task reward on [Wrath Of Green, Piercing Wood Eruption], then a Fragment Of Weave might grant you the ability to control the direction of the Spell even after it has been cast. A Fragment Of Corruption or a Fragment Of Poison would more than likely inflict a damage over time effect as well." Ashvattha Rana suggested numerous different options for Jon, watching as the brown-haired human scrunched up his face in thought before shrugging his shoulders.

"Piercing Wood Eruption is not something I would be willing to spend a task reward on, especially in the short term. Abilities with the Mutation Trait are my priority, followed by [Mine Is The Sea Of Knowledge] and then Luin, Assail, and Glaucus. Perhaps Archetype Green and Archetype Avarice after that…" Jon muttered to himself, thinking about what types of fragments he could integrate into his preexisting abilities.

Rana had told him that common routes of development for heart mutations and marrow mutations were fragments that either manifested inherent Spell effects, or fragments that increased resistances or granted cleansing effects.

Fragments Of Cleanse was the obvious choice, although Jon did seem interested in both a Fragment Of Spell for his Seir-Glacial Heart and a Fragment Of Blood for his Murmur-Glacial Marrow.

His Minerva-Sagacity Eyes allowed Jon to peer past mental defences and observe the status pages of other individuals, or the inherent traits in mortal objects or mortal beings. A Fragment Of Penetration would further increase its ability to pierce through mental resistances, although a Fragment Of Spirit might inflict knowledge damage in a comparable manner to how [Thou Art The Monarch Of Truth And Spears] did.

The Longinus-Lancea Spirit would either receive a Fragment Of Pierce or a Fragment Of Protection. The former would more than likely increase the damage inflicted by his spirit mutation while the latter might manifest another Spell one focused on increasing resistances or reducing oncoming damage.

The Fragment Of Prana which manifested his Yaochi-Jade Prana could receive numerous different fragments depending on what Jon wanted to achieve with his lifeforce.

A Fragment Of Abundance should increase the preexisting effects, perhaps even granting his Wood Mana Core an expanded capacity upon integration. A Fragment Of Concealment should allow Jon to obscure himself both physically and spiritually, in a manner closer to Avahni's [Silence Is The Verdant Flowers Daydream] rather than [The Fools Advance, Inversing Life And Death].

'And to be frank, I have no idea what sort of fragment I should integrate into [Helel]. Out of all the fragments that I have integrated, the Fragment Of Superbia is the one that has thrown me off the most. It did save me from integrating a Fragment Of Transcendence but treating it as one would only ruin my Helel-Testament Pride.'

Jon did want to manifest at least one more mutation before becoming a Knight. Although no other fragment other than a Fragment Of Mutation would guarantee such an ability.

'Stuck am I. Between a rock and a hard place,' Jon thought to himself, channelling one of his favourite fictional characters.

Letting out a small sigh, Jon shook his head before laying down beside the Earthen Treasury Womb and allowing himself to rest under the soft light of the bodhi tree. Closing his eyes, Jon allowed himself to enjoy the gentle sound of trickling water, allowing his Sea Of Knowledge to grow still without any thought, emotion, or experience to disturb his mental construct.

Although, one last thought could not help but cause ripples throughout his Sea Of Knowledge.

'Fragment Of Thorns… or a Fragment Of Tree…'

Break

Wilheim ran through the forest, panting heavily with each step he took. The short, hazelnut-skinned man ignored the beads of sweat dripping down the sides of his face, overloading both his Malphas-Mountain Marrow and Halphas-Mountain Heart.

Each step he took contained an exorbitant amount of force behind it.

Wilheim often found himself almost tripping over fallen logs or nearly slipping as he moved to avoid a patch of poisonous shrubs or toxic flowers. Even though Wilheim had practiced using multiple different enhancements all at once, he was still not quite used to fighting or even moving while spiritual energy was saturating his flesh and blood.

Jon had assisted him in getting used to fighting.

The human haphazardly launched spear thrusts towards him, urging him to channel spiritual energy into his physical enhancements and Spells at the same time. All the while forcing him to avoid lunges with Luin or wide swings with Assail.

His footwork had improved quite a bit since their group had combatted the Malum Hobgoblin and Wilheim thought that he would be able to retreat or even avoid slow-moving targets while countering them with his own Spells.

While sparring against Sariel or Shamael, Wilheim found himself winning, being able to overwhelm his opponent with Spells while enjoying the protection of [Light Of Thou Consecrated Walls] and buffs of [Blessed Lake Art; Graceful Overflowing Pond].

[Fragment Of Spring] [Blessed Lake Art; Graceful Overflowing Pond] (Lake, Spring, Spell, Recovery, Buff)

Effect (Mortal): Chant, while placing your hand on a surface. This surface shall erupt with an overwhelming amount of pure spring water. Those that drink from the [Blessed Lake Art; Graceful Overflowing Pond] shall be granted an instance of [Spring Rejuvenation] and [Grace Of Water].

[Spring Rejuvenation]: Life natured spiritual energy cleanses a single debuff or affliction from a willing target.

[Grace Of Water]: Lake natured spiritual energy graces a target with the gentle blessing of spring. Restores a minute amount of lifeforce. Additional stacks have an additive effect.

The combined effects of his Fragment Of Wall and Fragment Of Spring allowed Wilheim to use more aggressive tactics against enemies that shared his method of combat. Although Sariel did possess her own unique shielding effects, her distinct lack of offensive abilities were often the reason behind her losses.

On the other hand, while sparring against Shamael, Wilheim often found the blue-skinned satanas suffering from the opposite problem. Shamael was able to inflict his numerous debuffs or afflictions against him, even through his shielding effect, but lacked defensive methods allowing him to resist damaging abilities.

Shamael did possess powerful physical capabilities as well. Exceeding Jon in terms of pure physical might. But had not trained enough with it in order to turn said strength into something meaningful.

'Speaking of Jon…'

Jon was perhaps, the greatest counter to his abilities, even more so than Avahni with her overabundance of summons.

The young human possessed a seemingly random assortment of abilities. Numerous different metaphysical mutations, which Wilheim now suspected was born from his Source, in tandem with abilities allowing him to fight alone such as his Fragment Of Incarnation and Fragment Of Regeneration.

Jon excelled in the manipulation of both Luin and Assail. His grasp over his mental construct was even greater than his own, a proverbial bastion against mental-related damages, afflictions and debuffs.

He could create spear-shaped trap constructs and could manifest an enormous thirty-foot long spear-construct capable of injuring a Knight. He could produce multiple slashes from a single swing of his spear and even store items within a unique storage space born from a Fragment Of Library.

'I do not understand! How are his abilities synergistic with one another!? It is almost as if he integrated fragments with varying abilities so that he could build synergy between them after becoming a Knight!'

'But how could he even know that? Was it the Earthen Treasury Womb that told him that?'

Wilheim almost slipped after running across a patch of [Phobic Sun Moss]. His reflexes born from a Fragment Of Reaction allowing him to reposition himself, lowering his centre of gravity and sliding across the [Phobic Sun Moss] as if the surface was carved from ice.

[Fragment Of Reaction] [Woodland Reflexes] (Forest, Reaction, Ability, Enhancement, Self)

Effect (Mortal): Dramatically increases the effectiveness of natural reflexes and perceptions. Moderately increases physical agility and dexterity. Slightly increases the effectiveness of all abilities with the Forest Trait.

Wilheim had almost forgotten about his spiritual energy expenditure as he continued to sprinting through the forest. The floresiensis glanced towards his status page for a moment, grinning as he dismissed it, walking through the tree line his hands placing his hands on his hips victoriously.

Jon beneath the canopy of the Earthen Treasury Womb turned towards him, smiling as he played with the threads in his hand.

Avahni sitting beside the Twelve-Coloured Cloud Hive and the Crimson Nine-Tailed Carp lifted her head, waving towards him with a wide smile on her face.

Shamael sitting atop the Mountain-Devouring Rafflesia, stopped playing with the spiritual item in his hands and nodded in his direction.

Sariel and her Salvation Of White Beginnings practiced one of her Life Trait Spells across the riverbank. The former entranced with the whiteish-green spiritual energy her Fragment Of Cleanse released.

Wilheim lifted up the spherical, baseball-sized rainbow-coloured gem in his hand, holding it towards the sky as if it were some divine historical artefact. He could see several of Avahni's summoned companions turn towards the Mana Core in his hand, some of them even showing expressions of shock and surprise as he hoisted it above his head.

Wilheim, in all his pride and honour as a member of House Freytal-Isenburg, grinned as he declared to the entire riverbank.

"Behold, my friends! For I have found us a Dungeon!"

"Dungeon" Mana Core discovered.

Would you like to integrate this "Dungeon" Mana Core?
