"Boom!!"
Amidst the thunderous explosions, Huangfu Yi was jolted awake by the seamless pain. He was blasted into a crater by the shockwave and, in the midst of a flood of memories, barely opened his eyes to see the sky filled with missiles and drones, as if his life was flashing before his eyes.
In the scarlet view, cruise missiles and interceptor missiles continued their pursuit and glide in the sky, like a chaotic battle of sword curtains across the firmament. The overwhelming laser bullet rain filled the sky like a stream poured from the stars of the Milky Way.
From time to time, a deafening explosion would occur, and the expanding umbrella-shaped clouds would bloom in the air, tearing apart the smoke clouds to set the sky ablaze. Occasionally, a strong light would sweep across, scorching the heavens and earth, turning everything to void.
Mega Harbor, why am I back in this damned place...
"Mad! What a newbie! Standing there dumbfounded waiting to die, eh? As soon as you come over, find cover first, damn it!"
"BIUBIUBIU!"
"Bang bang bang!"
Then a sergeant's helmet came into view, the mirrored glass reflecting Huangfu Yi's helmet, which in turn reflected the sergeant's helmet, an endless cycle of helmets...
"Hey! If you're not dead, make a sound! If you are, I won't waste money!"
"...Squeak."
Huangfu Yi finally reacted, desperately turning his head to find his right arm torn apart, not knowing where it had flown off to, leaving only a large bloody hole on his shoulder.
The sergeant knelt beside him on one knee, pulled out a metal tube, broke it into two parts, one part attached to the injection port on his neck, the other spraying something like adhesive spray to seal the wound, stopping the bleeding.
"Speak up! Where else are you injured? Share your physiological data!"
Perhaps the medicine from earlier was potent, as Huangfu Yi felt the pain ebb away like a tide, leaving his entire body burning hot, a puff of air rising from his chest, allowing him to sit up and place his left hand on the sergeant's arm to sync battle data through the combat suit communication.
"Fractured bones, displaced organs, some internal bleeding. Tch, nothing major, just reattach the limb.
Stand up! Follow me, stop dawdling!"
"Yes."
So Huangfu Yi gritted his teeth and stood up, clutching the meteor rifle, following the sergeant across the scarred battlefield.
Outer Heaven's fights were entirely different from those in Taiji Heaven. The armies shot at each other from beyond visible range, hurling unimaginable destructive weapons, tons of iron and fire, at targets hundreds or thousands of miles away. Ordinary soldiers could only struggle to survive in this rain of metal, shooting once and moving places, any slight negligence resulting in disaster like Huangfu Yi, getting counter-targeted and torn to pieces by returning artillery fire.
However, this sergeant was clearly a top-tier veteran, able to dance across such a battlefield. Or more precisely, like a crazed rabbit bouncing madly all over the place.
Huangfu Yi staggered amidst the sonic booms left by the sergeant's sprinting, even with visual assistance, he could barely make out the ionized trails left in the air by his rifle's rapid fire.
In the bloom of thunder light, one man cleared a vast swath of enemy firepower, occasionally volleying into the sky for anti-air support, directly blowing up supersonic missiles, effectively becoming an all-purpose turret, leading the newbie across the battlefield back to the rear.
Though it seemed the other was just leveraging equipment support, running and jumping, casually shooting, Huangfu Yi knew how strong this sergeant was. Because, as he realized, there was no True Qi in this Outer Heaven, making it impossible to refine muscles using Gang Fist techniques.
But even if the War Remains Armor could assist with exertion, the intense physical activity of running and jumping impacted the body's organs and bones unmistakably. Without solid muscle strength, one big leap could smash oneself into paste.
From the sergeant's effortless performance of physical prowess on the battlefield, he must at least be a Level 1 Nascent Soul Martial God body refinement expert in the Taiji Realm. Although unsure how exactly the other trained, having such a Martial God for protection significantly eased Huangfu Yi's pressure, helping him retreat towards the rear.
There wasn't much more to say, last time in this world, under the sergeant's berating and after crawling his way through, Huangfu Yi had pretty much completed the basic training tutorial of right-click to move, left-click to shoot before immediately diving into the fierce defense of the Mega Harbor.
From then on, it was round the clock, day and night, with endless sounds of da da da, biu biu biu, scribble, amidst explosions and thunder fire, following the sergeant frantically maneuvering between trenches and tactical supply points, relyin' on his helmet's aim assistance to fire madly at targets miles away, sometimes even totally unseen.
And looking at the combat log from the helmet, clearly Huangfu Yi had actually gone back to Taiji Heaven for a few days, but now, opening his eyes again, seamlessly returned to the battleground, as if just in the blink of an eye, evidently showing the timelines between the two worlds weren't directly linked.
But then again, even just considering Outer Heaven here, he's been fighting with the suit's built-in life-support system, automatically battling like a drone, for over one hundred hours, which is truly insane, and yet...
"After nearly a week of fighting, it still isn't over..."
