After being transported by a squad of Nascent Soul Realm cultivators we finally reached the periphery of the valley. It honestly really looked like some type of dark evil citadel straight out of a vampire movie.
From where we were, I couldn't quite see everything as Scalera had described, I could see enough.
Dark skies, big towering mountains that could intimidate the faint of heart, and a City that was made out of some sort of black stone with a few blood red ornaments placed around the place.
It was honestly a bit eerie.
Especially coupled with the fact that a massive amount of smoke was rising from much deeper in the valley.
What I couldn't see though was the sight of any of the guards that Scalera had mentioned. I couldn't even feel whatever aura they should've had. But I didn't doubt for one second that they were not only present, but watching intently.
Which is why Scalera decided to speak in my mind.
'Patriarch, we have scouted the surrounding area extensively. Even the mountains surrounding the valley weren't left untouched and all paths that lead towards the valley were guarded heavily. Considering our time constraints, the plans available to us are limited. What are your orders?'
My orders huh. Taking a glance at the countdown, we have 18 hours remaining, after my period of unconsciousness and all the travel and scouting that took place. There are humans in the City…I will worry about them afterwards, whether they are trapped or have betrayed the Planet doesn't really matter for now.
Instead, we need to focus on that cloud of smoke. There is a good chance that's where the final show will be so that's where we need to be.
The problem is, we aren't strong enough to pierce through the City all the way to the back of the valley… but maybe we don't need to.
No matter what happens, we will still have to fight there is no doubt about that, but if we can split their forces on two different fonts or something along those lines…then maybe a very small squad can sneak their way in.
…Yeah I think this could work. One group will attack first to serve as a distraction, while the second and smaller group will follow up from a different point of entry so that they think that the distraction from the first group is for the second group.
But the second group is actually another distraction for a much smaller force… likely me, the Ash Guard, the boys, and perhaps Jrino and someone else.
Although I was weaker than my opponents, I'd be included in the group simply because of the V word. It was somewhat of a trump card, and it should hopefully be the end to everything happening.
I think I would need Scalera causing as much damage as possible in one of the first two groups.
If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
After coming to a decision, or at least the rough framework of a decision, I relayed it all to Scalera and through her the plans were discussed with all of the high level cultivators we had. Very quickly a finalized plan came together, and it was immediately put into action.
Seiha would fire off her railgun thing once again, and Scalera and the others would charge in as the tip of the sword in what would likely be a battle to the death until we can stop the sacrifice.
Meanwhile another force would move around to the rear of the Valley and try to 'sneak' in. If they made it in great, but the idea is that they would be caught and another battle would ensue, thus hopefully opening up the path for my group to make it through.
There was no use in trying to worry about what would go right or wrong from this point on. Either we will stop the sacrifice or die. Very simple.
It took roughly two hours for the plans to be finalized and everyone to get in position. At that point we just waited for the trigger to act to show itself.
A few minutes later it did.
The weapon straight out of a sci-fi movie whirred to life and exploded out towards the entrance of the valley, barreling towards the City.
But right before the beam of death hit the City a red shield that was mostly see through manifested in the shape of a massive dome that seemed to cover the entire valley.
The beam and the dome basically fought against each other for a few moments before a loud pop and then a boom could be heard, and the shield disappeared.
Well, I don't think they had a rail gun in mind when they erected that shield. Anyway, Scalera and the others stormed off after that. Then roughly 30 minutes after their catastrophic battle began at the entrance of the valley, a much smaller force of about 15 Nascent Soul Infernals jumped down from the mountains into the valley, to try and make their way towards the smoke.
From my location I couldn't quite see what was happening down in the valley in the midst of all the smoke, parts of the City and even all the foliage present, but I could quite literally hear more fighting.
Jrino heard it too.
'It's time to go.'
Between him and an Infernal by the name of Jarken, the group was covered in their Qi and we were carried as discreetly as possible down into the valley.
A quick survey followed after we landed and apart from the battles happening in the distance I couldn't hear anything, but in this situation it wasn't my hearing or any of my senses that counted, instead it was that of Jarken and Jrino that mattered.
We waited until they gave the okay and then moved from the crop of trees we were hiding in towards the smoke.
From there the plan was quite simple, get to the source of the smoke, confirm if it's what we're looking for and then put an end to it.
So we tried to do exactly that, only things clearly don't always go as planned.
There was no warning, no alert, no moment to catch our breaths, nothing. There was nothing at all to prepare us for what just happened.
We made our way towards the source of the smoke, and there was quite literally a massive hole in the ground. I didn't get close enough to see the bottom, but there was bright yellow/orange/red light shining all the way to the top. The type of light you would expect to see from a pool of lava.
And the smoke wasn't even coming from the hole itself, it was coming from a machine next to the hole that was doing…something? I had no idea what it was doing.
Anyway, none of that mattered because the second we approached the hole, I quite literally heard a sigh so loud I'm sure the people at the entrance of the valley heard it too.
Then a voice that carried a hint of regality to it could be heard in the area.
"…I am disappointed."
Then a massive weight descended on my shoulders like never before, and my body quite literally slammed into the ground.
And it wasn't just me.
The Ash Guard, the boys, Jrino, and Jarken were also included.
Every single one of slammed into the ground.
And then my eyes widened.
Someone with the power to force two Nascent Soul Cultivators to do that…
An Immortal.
Fuck.
