Meanwhile, everywhere, nowhere, somewhere…
"Repeat what you just said."
"My Lord, every single demon on Earth was murdered in a flash. There was nothing any of them could do to escape in time. We do not believe they even got a chance to know how they died."
"And by whose hand was this?"
"The Immortal we've been keeping an eye on."
"So she decided to act. But it would be foolish to assume that she acted over her own volition. She would not want to antagonize the precious Patriarch, now would she?"
"She would not, my Lord."
"Yes, she would not. So after all these years, we kept our heads low, only causing problems here and there, nothing big enough to catch his attention, and not enough of them to cause problems.
"Yet we were still eliminated…
"Of course, since none of them were Immortal, she could have her way. Hm…here is much to think about."
"My Lord, should we retaliate? Perhaps we send a force to her empire and show them their place."
"Perhaps not, you fool. Do you want us to be wiped out? Don't be stupid. No matter what happens, in this moment our responsibility is to watch and observe the new Infernal Patriarch.
"Is he going to be like some of his siblings, as they like to refer to themselves, and ignore our presence altogether, never bothering to lift a finger at the mention of a demon? Or is he going to be like a few of his other siblings who slay demons if they are anywhere near them?
"There are also the small few who actively hunt demons, seeking them out no matter where they are. It is imperative that we find out what type of Infernal Patriarch we have on our hands. That is the responsibility of our Sanctum. If a few million demons have to die for us to understand what we are dealing with, that is of no consequence to me or the Sanctum. Do you understand?"
"Yes, my Lord."
"Good. Prepare a suitable vessel and a matching escort. It is time for the Sanctum to make a presence in the Empire of Water. Make sure the demons we send are suitable and prepared. It is of utmost importance that we follow the Patriarch and to do that we will enter a Universe filled with Immortals, so you understand what that means correct?"
"Correct, my Lord. But what of Earth?"
"Leave it alone for now. There's no need to further allocate any resources there while our precious guest is no longer present."
…
POV RAIZEN
"So what you're saying is I'll be fighting a bunch of people on your behalf?"
Love this novel? Read it on Royal Road to ensure the author gets credit.
"Yes, that is precisely what I'm saying. It has been many millennia since I participated in this farce and life has grown quite boring as of late. Traveling to your planet and participating in two major battles, far more than I have in the past few thousand years, has been far more exciting than I expected.
"That is why it is time to add some spice to my life and to the empire. Too many of those old black scaled bastards are resting on their laurels, looking no longer beneath them but toward skies they will never reach. So on my behalf you will participate in fights. Fights that I don't think will be an issue for you in the slightest."
"Well, that's interesting. Of course I don't mind doing this, as this is the favor I owe you. But out of curiosity, how will these fights work and what will be accomplished for you?"
"Simple. We will be fighting for resources and territory. These fights could be large scale battles or, more commonly, one on one. There are a few iterations of team based challenges, but I care not for those. I will primarily try to schedule one on one battles.
"To do so, I will find someone like myself, a prince, princess, duke, duchess, essentially one of the many important figures in the empire, and I will issue a challenge. If they are not cowards, they will accept. They would wager something and I will put a wager of forth. The one on one battle will be fought between you and their chosen. The winner gets the spoils. Simple enough."
After getting my questions answered and seeing that I no longer had any reason to be here, I let her know that I would like to leave and meet up with my people. From there, a series of messages were sent using her attendants, who were mostly silent observers unless they had to ask something relevant.
Anyway, after making my intentions clear, word went out to those who needed to be reached and that eventually led to a conference room where Lidaz, Lirian, Frian, Izanshi and the rest of my department heads were all waiting for me, having received word from their respective attendants.
A couple of words of small talk were exchanged briefly, things like whether they had been able to settle in well, how their quarters were, and things of that nature. Once that was out of the way, I began to inform them of a few things I had on my mind.
Firstly, when we reach our destination and have settled in, I will give every single person here in my clan the Eternal Flame. I realized waiting to do such a thing was foolish. All of them needed to be as strong as they could possibly be to face whatever danger we will inevitably come across.
I don't know how long it will take, but it will be my main priority to make sure every single one of them can wield the Eternal Flame.
The reactions were muted, but I could see the excitement in their eyes. I'm sure if I hadn't been in the room at the moment there would have been smiles, maybe even high fives. Well perhaps not the latter, but the principle is the same.
I then looked over at Lidaz.
"That goes for you as well, but I have a feeling it will either be much harder to give you the flame, maybe even impossible due to the power disparity between us. But I guarantee I will try and if it is impossible at this moment, then I'll work hard to raise my cultivation enough to ensure that it is possible."
"Thank you, Patriarch," Lidaz said.
I nodded, and from there I proceeded to explain what will be happening once we reach this empire and how I will be fighting on behalf of the Lady of this ship for a while. I did not know how many battles she intended me to fight on her behalf, but I didn't plan on skimping out on this favor I owed to her. This is only favor number one though and she has yet to tell me what number two will be, so there is also that.
Anyway, the only thing my people will be doing during the trip is focusing on their cultivations, since there's a good chance I'll make quite a lot of people angry with any battles I win. It's also possible my people won't be welcomed in many places, and there's no reason to invite more danger and problems. So I will go do the fighting while they focus on getting stronger. Of course, the plan is only as concrete as the situation permits; if things change, so will the plan. But it's good to at least go in with some sort of idea of what we're about to do.
With that, the meeting ended. I dismissed everyone and was finally led to my own personal quarters.
"Is this a house?"
