Emily smiled to herself. She was in between two powerful men, both of which had control over a lot of money and people. And here she was, a small, blonde girl who commanded very little of her own money and power, and yet she was directing the sequence of events around her like a conductor directing an orchestra. There was a swell of pride in her, if only Nova was there to see her.
That thought stopped her dead in her tracks and her smile almost faltered. She had to admit to herself finally that Nova was like the older sister she never had. A woman who was better than her, in almost every way, had taken her under her wing and taught her how to be a woman. But more than that, how to be seen as a person in the eyes of others. I've learned your lessons well, Nova. Maybe the next time we meet it will be on more equal ground.
She recovered from her epiphany and nodded towards the car trunk, "Michael, would you open the trunk please?"
The black haired driver popped open the trunk on a nod from Kenneth. Emily opened the refrigerated crate and did a quick count of the blood bags inside, thirty. She closed the crate and pulled it out of the trunk. She brought it over to Amir, who opened the medical crate and counted the bags.
"Would it be possible for you to bring me more, next time?" Amir asked as he closed the crate.
Emily immediately knew what Amir was doing and she saw the trap from a mile away. The cover story that her and Stewart had come up with when they first started doing business with this guy was that they worked at a blood bank and they skimmed from every donation, pulling just a bit more than was usual. The patient would be a little weaker than other donors but no one ever really noticed. They would take the extra blood and stock pile it and every month or so, they would have a shipment ready, sometimes it was thirty bags, most times it was less. Amir knew this, he was testing her.
Emily smiled and shook her head, "Amir, you know I can't do that. I was pretty lucky to get you what I did. Especially with Stew not being here, it's just me at the blood bank now."
Amir stood up and studied her closely, "Since when does a blood bank worker have the money to buy designer shoes and get her hair and nails done?"
"Oh my god, since when did you become so paranoid?" Emily shot back, "I am just coming back from a family get together, and my aunt treated me. Do you think I like wearing this stuff?" She stared hard at Amir. There was a lot of truth in that statement, if she found it a bit harder to actually say that she hated dressing this way. How she was dressed now was still not the first thing her mind went to when she was thinking about what to wear. She let her hate for the reason that she was dressing this way show through her eyes and body language.

Amir looked at her with harsh eyes. He glanced between her and over to the car towards Kenneth and Michael. He knew there was something going on, something had changed. What he was trying to figure out was if the reward was worth the risk of the change? Was this some kind of trap that he was allowing himself to be snared into?
"Where's my money, Amir?" Emily asked calmly.
Amir's focused on Emily. Without taking his eyes off her he reached behind himself and snapped his fingers. The driver's side door opened and a trim, smooth faced brown man jumped out and handed him a paper bag. He opened the bag and shifted through the contents with his fingers before roughly rolling up the opening of the bag and tossing it to Emily who deftly caught it with one hand. Emily opened the bag and shifted through the contents as well before stuffing the bag into her purse.
"If you're uncomfortable with me Amir, we can stop anytime," Emily shot out at him. "I don't like when people don't trust me. Do you think he's a cop?" She threw her head back towards Kenneth.
Amir looked over at the light brown haired man standing by the parked car. He shook his head, "No, there is nothing about him that says he's a cop, and I'm pretty good at spotting that sort of thing." He picked up the medical crate and gave it to the driver. The driver took the crate and put it into the trunk before disappearing back behind the driver's seat of the car.
"I have no problem continuing our business arraignment as it is now," Amir said. "Just make sure you don't try to fuck me. And if you think being a woman will help save you, you're wrong. Don't cross me, or you'll end up like all bitches deserve to, face down in a ditch." With that Amir turned and got back into the car. The car pulled around and they watched as it drove out of the parking lot.
Emily sneered at the rear lights of the car as she turned and headed back to Kenneth's car. She shook her head and sat down heavily against the leather of the back seat. Of course, Kenneth would probably want his share of the money. That was bullshit. This was her money, and she would keep it.
Amir was a real piece of work. What gain could she possible have by lying, cheating, or trying to double cross him? This was farm blood for fuck's sake! Not that he knew that. By doing this Stewart and her had gained the unwanted attention of their House and he had paid the price for that with his life. She looked down at her clothes and where she was, she had paid a price too. She wasn't dead, but her life was far from hers anymore either.
Kenneth slid into the car and looked straight ahead. Michael got behind the wheel and drove. Kenneth didn't say anything, and this grabbed Emily's attention immediately. She had ten thousand dollars in her purse and Kenneth didn't even ask how much she had been given.
"What did you do?" Emily asked calmly as she looked straight ahead. Kenneth ignored her.
Emily turned towards her Head of House, "Kenneth, cut the crap, what did you do? Is Brian following Amir?"
Kenneth glanced over at her, "Maybe all those books I'm having you read is actually doing something." He smiled as he turned towards her, "Yes, I did. I want to know why someone, regardless of if they have too much money or not, would pay the kind of money that guy just did for donated blood."
