Sevilla City.
The Black Knight Demigod "Rotten Sword" Liva Guer was comparing the information sent back by the Undead from the frontline with the reports delivered by secret spies.
Since Sevilla bordered the Badajoz Jungle to the west, despite the Half-elf avoiding the outside world for nearly a century and maintaining a neutral stance as spectators of the war between humans and the Undead, Liva Guer had still managed to plant spies among the merchant convoys heading toward the jungle.
Recently, the spies had finally brought back a piece of classified information:
Lately, among the Half-elf tribe, distrust towards the Undead was growing day by day, and even more, an extremist faction within had emerged advocating that the Half-elf should get involved in the peninsula war to help humans expel the Undead.
This faction had already made contact with the Aragon Kingdom in the east, and not long ago, the Bull Mercenary Group had dispatched a small team with plans to negotiate and communicate with the extremist faction in the Badajoz Jungle.
The mercenary squad planned to start from Valencia, take the southern route around the La Mancha Plateau, then cross through the Andalusia Region, and eventually enter the Badajoz Jungle from the direction of Sevilla.
The details of this classified information were excessively precise, even the squad's travel route and departure time were laid out clearly, making Liva Guer feel as though an unknown mastermind had intentionally leaked it to him, hoping to use him to intercept the mercenary squad.
However, infighting in the human world was not something new. One of the more famous historical cases involved Emperor Charlemagne and Holy Knight Roland:
At that time, the Undead Army was battling the troops of the Frank Empire on this continent, and then the spies planted amongst the enemy brought back so-called classified intelligence, detailing when Holy Knight Roland would pass through which area, with how many troops, etc., so unbelievably detailed it seemed as if it was leaked personally by the higher-ups of the Empire.
As history recorded it, the Undead Army ambushed Holy Knight Roland according to the intelligence and ultimately besieged and killed him, with Emperor Charlemagne arriving too late.
Despising such despicable tactics of using others to carry out murder, Liva Guer, who adhered to his knightly ideals from his life, nevertheless had to put the mercenaries in his sights first as an Undead, and only second as a knight.
After all, according to the intelligence, the squad would have to pass through his Sevilla territory, so Liva Guer dispatched a large number of Undead troops to cast a wide net and patrol the area extensively.
Finally, today they cornered the target mercenary squad.
Yet, a few minutes later, the messages fed back from the frontline left Liva Guer somewhat astonished.
There were nine mercenaries, all Transcendents who had reached Law Level, and the frontline Undead Army couldn't withstand their forceful breakthrough.
No wonder the humans had deliberately leaked the information to him. So many High Rank Transcendents, if they were killed obscurely within their own ranks, it would be hard for anyone to completely cover it up.
Therefore, Liva Guer personally took action, leading the Black Knight Guard himself to pursue and kill.
By the banks of the Guadalquivir River, The Azure Longsword once again slaughtered a wave of the Undead Army.
Choosing to break through forcefully rather than continue to hide was partly because the searching Undead Army was just too numerous, and also because they were now not far from the Badajoz Jungle.
Across the river lay the Doniana Swamp, filled with impassable mud and fierce Extraordinary Creatures, where the Undead Army could not venture on a large scale without sustaining heavy losses.
After crossing the great swamp and heading due north, one would reach the southern part of the Badajoz Jungle.
Therefore, once they crossed this turbulent river, they could immediately shake off the Undead Army hot on their heels.
Of course, considering that the Undead Spirits were also aware of this, it was highly likely that as everyone was halfway across the river, they would encounter pursuit from behind.
Therefore, they had to adopt some special and quick means of crossing the river.
"Let's begin," Aske said.
Then Mia began to focus her powers intensely. Nearly a minute later, she pulled a black hole out of thin air, leading directly to the opposite bank of the wide river.
No sooner had everyone stepped into the black hole than a loud and grating noise came from behind. The Rotten Sword Demigod, Liva Guer, with astonishing speed, rushed over from a distance, his spear imbued with the Power of Laws, piercing through the air.
But he merely pierced through the fading afterimage of the black hole.
He stopped in his tracks, carving a lengthy trench into the ground, his lifeless gaze turned towards the opposite bank of the river, where he faintly heard Mia's call.
The voice was not clear, but Liva Guer's exceptional hearing made out that the little girl on the other side was shouting:
"Hahaha, can't catch me..."
Boring taunts, Liva Guer thought, picking up his spear and walking back in silence.
He hadn't caught up with this small mercenary group, admittedly due to his own underestimation, but their rate of advance was indeed beyond imagination.
From engaging the enemy, to information being relayed back to him and his personal arrival, it took no more than fifteen minutes, yet the group had managed to cut through the layers of the Undead Army, charging all the way to the Guadalquivir River's edge, and then teleported to the opposite bank... This was not something an ordinary Mercenary Group could achieve.
Even the elite special Sharp Blade Teams of the Large Mercenary Groups, as far as Liva Guer knew, did not possess such efficient killing efficiency.
Otherwise, what war would the Undead Kingdom be fighting with the Aragon-Castilla Kingdom? If the other side simply sent such a Sharp Blade Team over, they'd see which part of the army lacked a Demigod's presence and just cut straight through to take out the command point, and the Low Rank Undead Army without its commanders would directly lose control, leaving the Undead with no chance of victory.
Hmph, an interesting enemy.
As Liva Guer walked back to Sevilla on foot, he contemplated the situation of the mercenary group, when suddenly he felt an immense cold sensation wash over him.
Raising his decaying helmet, he saw a lady in a translucent ball gown descend ethereally with a seductively enchanting smile towards him.
"Mourning Edge", a Resentful Spirit Demigod of level 32, was considered an elder even within the Hafsi Dynasty. It was said that this Demigod had been active in the world since the early times of the Third Epoch, during the Carthaginian era.
However, for some reason, she didn't take refuge in the Netherworld, causing her sanity to be severely eroded. It was said that she even forgot her own name, so most of the time she stayed in her Mourning Palace, falling into a deep sleep amidst the wailing songs of countless Resentful Spirits.
Yet for some unknown reason, she had personally come to Sevilla City this time... Combined with the route of that mercenary group, Black Knight Demigod Liva Guer roughly guessed the answer.
"You, knight," Mourning Edge asked with a voice as clear and ethereal as a bell, "have you seen a group of humans?"
"Are you referring to that elite mercenary group sent out by the Bull Mercenary Group?" Liva Guer asked cautiously in a dull voice.
Mourning Edge: .........
"I don't know," she said, her gaze slowly shifting to the west, in the direction of the Guadalquivir River.
Afterward, her figure gradually faded away on the spot.
