Delar the Elder, Lv.27, Tree Shepherd Bloodline, majoring in the "Plant" Law.
As the name suggests, this Transcendent, who had invested all his abilities in plants, thrived in an environment like the Lucitania Great Forest, able to unleash 120% of his strength.
Thus, the remaining few members of the council could only sit anxiously in the living room, waiting for Elder Delar to return from outside.
Speaker Gren was dead, Member Glendale was also dead... Although there was ample evidence that it was the work of Undead Spirits, the deceased were almost all from the Conservative Party, and even a fool would know there was foul play involved.
Ah, it could very well be Her sitting on the throne, who had secretly struck a vile accord with the Undead Spirits! That damned Half-elf traitor!
So, everyone began furiously cursing the Half-elf Queen, conveniently ignoring that it was these very Traditionalist members who had first conspired with the Royal Family of Aragon.
"Elder Delar sure knows how to keep his cool!" Gradually, some council members redirected their resentment towards the host, who hadn't shown up yet, "Speaker Gren had followed him for over twenty years, and now he dies mysteriously on the streets, yet he can bear it?"
"Say less, Donkson!" Another member quickly advised him, "Now, besides Elder Delar, there's no one else who can stop her!"
This statement was indeed very honest. In the Extraordinary World, even among the political upper echelon of the half-elves, it was ultimately strength that spoke.
Now, with the Transcendents on Her Majesty the Queen's side proving superior, employing sinister assassination tactics to nearly eradicate the Traditionalist faction, it meant even if the Traditionalists tore off their disguises and openly staged a coup, they would likely not be able to defeat Her side.
Given this, everyone naturally gathered around the most powerful force in their camp, the Demigod Elder Delar, otherwise, were they just waiting to be hunted down and killed by Her Majesty the Queen's Transcendents?
As time passed, the council members grew increasingly uneasy. It was nearly midnight yet Elder Delar still showed no signs of returning, making everyone grow anxious and fearful, dreading that someone might burst in any moment to hang and drag them all away.
Fortunately, Elder Delar did not make them wait too long. Minutes later, a plant suddenly broke through the wooden floor, quickly growing from a tender sprout into immense vines and flower buds.
Then the petals unfolded one by one, and Elder Delar, dressed in a robe, emerged from within.
This was his "Root System Network" skill, allowing him to move quickly through the roots spread beneath the ground and burst forth from any plant.
In a desert environment, this skill was useless, but in forest and fertile terrains, it was divine, no less formidable than the space-moving prowess of the Black Hole Law.
"I have just contacted the Royal Family of Aragon," Elder Delar, looking around at the three members in the hall, struck his ancient vine staff forcefully on the floor and said, "According to their intelligence, the assassination was likely performed by a mercenary group called 'The Azure Longsword,' directed by the Bull Mercenary Group."
"The Azure Longsword?" The three council members looked at each other in bewilderment.
They certainly knew of the Bull Mercenary Group, the largest mercenary group on the Iberian Peninsula. But The Azure Longsword... some ragtag band that came out of nowhere?
"They are no ragtag band!" Seeing their skepticism, Elder Delar immediately slammed his staff down hard, declaring, "They have very close relations with the Church Court, even spending four months on the Italian Peninsula, helping the Church resolve a Mutant Spiritual Tree!"
A mutation in the Spiritual Tree? What is this thing? Even though the members of parliament hadn't heard this term before, they could imagine its viciousness, knowing that even the Church Court needed help to tackle it.
Furthermore, a mercenary group able to assist the Church Court with the mutation was naturally no ordinary, ragtag team.
"Wait," a member of parliament suddenly said, "The Azure Longsword... I've heard this name before. Isn't it that human mercenary group that was locked up in prison due to an assassination case?"
With that said, everyone immediately caught on. There indeed had been such a mercenary group, claiming to have been sent by the Bull Mercenary Group to Lusitania to ask for help from the half-elves.
The Conservative Party then took advantage of the situation to carry out a murder by proxy, cunningly framing them with a homicide charge, which successfully incited and stirred up resentment among the half-elves. The entire society's hostility toward outsiders had peaked, causing several "open motions" recently proposed by the one on the throne to be overwhelmingly voted down by the Half-elf Council and thereby dying a quiet death.
It was, arguably, the most brilliant move by the Conservative Party.
Now, someone was telling them that this "pawn apparently at your mercy" had killed two-thirds of their people?
However, recalling the clues provided by the Aragon royal family and their past accomplishments in helping the Church Court handle mutations, it was clear that this human mercenary group was not to be confined by a simple arrest warrant or prison.
"In that case!" another member of parliament quickly realized, "It will be easy!"
"Given that it was actually they who took action, whether they used tunnels, extraordinary powers, or colluded with the prison authorities, they must have a way to escape from the prison quietly. As long as we have someone surveil them 24 hours a day, they either can't leave or will have to brazenly escape."
"If they choose to escape, we can declare them fugitives and mobilize all our forces to hunt them down. Even the one on the throne will be powerless to interfere with this matter!"
The other members of parliament also nodded in agreement. Their previous fear of assassination stemmed solely from their visible presence while their adversaries remained hidden, and without even knowing who the perpetrator was, naturally, there was no way to retaliate.
But now that they knew it was likely this human mercenary group's doing, they, as the upper echelons of half-elf society, of course, had countless ways to manipulate their opponents.
"I heard Her Majesty the Queen has been in the prison all day today," Elder Delar pondered a moment and then nodded, "In that case, we can go directly to the prison to see Her Majesty and inquire about expediting the case."
"If Her Majesty refuses to cooperate, we can cling to this matter of the assassination stirring public outrage and insist Her Majesty exert pressure for harsh punishment, offering to save these human mercenaries' lives in exchange for our people to enter and guard the prison, then move when the opportunity arises."
"What if Her Majesty decides to openly confront us in the prison?" a worried member of parliament said. Political assassination plots had surfaced after all; how could you confidently say meeting Her Majesty there is safe?
"Hmph, with me here, what are you afraid of?" Elder Delar coldly snorted.
The members of parliament looked at each other and then began to feel relieved.
As an elder primarily versed in Plant Law, Delar was practically invincible in this great forest; even facing many high-rank powerful enemies, if not defeating them, ensuring a safe retreat for the three of them would absolutely not be a problem.
Moreover, Her Majesty would hardly attack Elder Delar and the three members of parliament openly; it would undoubtedly severely damage the royal family's political prestige. Hadn't she previously used covert assassination tactics and even framed the Undead Spirits precisely because of this concern?
With this in mind, everyone immediately agreed to follow Elder Delar directly to the prison, to openly and honorably seek an audience with Her Majesty.
