Tokyo: Rabbit Officer and Her Evil Partner

Chapter 383: The Guest

Minamoto Tamako was red-faced with embarrassment, loudly retorting that everyone wet the bed as children, so why bring it up?

"I never wet the bed as a child," Fushimi Roku shrugged. "You can ask Sakurako when you get back; I bet she never wet the bed either... Seems like you were the only one in the family who did."

"..."

Minamoto Tamako, her face flushed, assumed the authority of a captain, harshly criticizing Fushimi Roku, condemning him for joking about her privacy during an investigation, and demanding he apologize. She also forbade him from ever mentioning it to anyone.

With Captain Tamako momentarily in control, Fushimi Roku had no choice but to bow his head, sincerely acknowledging his mistake, claiming to have deeply reflected on it, and then smoothly changed the subject to steer the conversation back on track:

"None of this matters. What matters is that this little girl is an eyewitness, and she saw that hypnotist."

Minamoto Tamako suppressed her shame and adjusted back to work mode, nodding in agreement. She had been very curious during Nishino Fuyu's statement about who that mysterious 'guest' really was.

Clearly, that person was the mastermind.

She gave Fushimi Roku a look, and he understood immediately. Together, they moved to Nishino Fuyu's sides.

Minamoto Tamako put on a kind smile, while Fushimi Roku kept a stern face. This technique, taught at the police academy in Japan, is known as 'good cop bad cop,' one playing nice and the other playing tough to break a suspect's defenses.

This was already a very gentle interrogation method, at least without escalating to physical confrontation, and there was a 'good cop' to serve as a buffer layer, which was certainly better than the Great Memory Recovery Technique.

"Fuyu, do you remember what that guest looked like?" Minamoto Tamako asked.

"Well... like a guest," Nishino Fuyu replied.

"What was the guest's name then?"

"They were just called the guest..."

Minamoto Tamako saw that Nishino Fuyu didn't want to talk about it. She softly inquired if Fuyu had any concerns or if someone had threatened her.

Nishino Fuyu didn't respond; she turned towards the corner and shut down emotionally.

Minamoto Tamako struggled to get any information for a long time without any success, completely at a loss, she turned to look at Fushimi's teammate.

Fushimi Roku knew it was time to step up. He immediately scolded loudly with a tongue flick, "What are you doing!? You little brat, do you look down on the police? Huh?"

Nishino Fuyu jumped in fright. She looked back to see Fushimi Roku hiding his upper body in the shadows, slowly raising his right hand, shaking a fruit knife, and even sticking out his tongue to lick the blade... looking like a maniacal killer.

Nishino Fuyu was so frightened she almost cried. Minamoto Tamako quickly approached to shield Nishino Fuyu, pushing Fushimi Roku back slightly, soothingly saying, "Don't be afraid, don't worry, I'm here! I won't let anything happen to you..."

"That's not certain!" Fushimi Roku interjected from behind, "If you don't fess up, the police will have you sit on the tiger bench and force chili water down your throat!"

Minamoto Tamako glared at Fushimi Roku, thinking the threats were too far. Nishino Fuyu was just a twelve-year-old girl, just a bit of a scare tactic was enough; there was no need to threaten physical torment.

Nishino Fuyu pursed her lips tightly, trembling, even more unwilling to speak.

Seeing this, Minamoto Tamako was completely out of ideas, deciding to give up on the questioning and plan to take Nishino Fuyu for treatment first.

Fushimi Roku didn't want to drag it out. He used a small trick, lying, "If you tell the truth, I'll take you to see your brother... he's actually not dead."

Nishino Fuyu finally spoke, "You said earlier he died."

Fushimi Roku, with a straight face, said, "I lied, because you kept resisting, it was too troublesome."

Nishino Fuyu retorted, "How do I know you're not lying now? Let me call my brother, then I'll believe you... I saw her with a small phone earlier."

Fushimi Roku thought, how could she be so sharp? She seems quite young, yet more clever than Minamoto Tamako!

If it were a drug dealer, Fushimi Roku would have acted already, but Nishino Fuyu was a little girl and a victim, leaving him with no place to apply his skills. Even with convincing words, he couldn't make a stone bloom, so he had to obediently give up and let Minamoto Tamako call someone.

"Forget it, you just wait here." Fushimi Roku pouted.

Minamoto Tamako took out her flip phone, hesitated for a moment, unsure whether to call the police station or Doctor Miyazaki... If she called the station, they'd probably send social services like they did with Taira Sakurako before, which felt inexplicably sad.

After thinking it through, she decided to call Doctor Miyazaki.

Although an out-of-office visit is somewhat costly, Miss Miyazaki's professional ability is undeniable, it's worth the price—she was spending money to comfort the victim's family, not using unjust funds for enjoyment, so she felt no guilt when swiping the card.

Miyazaki Shizuka agreed, and the two sides arranged a time and place. Minamoto Tamako and Fushimi Roku had nothing to do but wait at the Nishino Family's home.

Nishino Fuyu rolled over, burying her head under the covers, looking very frightened; Minamoto Tamako went over to comfort her, telling Nishino Fuyu not to worry.

Fushimi's teammate, soft-hearted, couldn't bear to see the little girl suffer, so he chose to leave the basement, replied to a drug dealer's message upstairs, and then took a stroll in the yard to find the "zombie" body and the crossbow arrow Nishino Fuyu fired.
