Tokyo: Rabbit Officer and Her Evil Partner

Chapter 445: Speculations After the Truth (Part 2)

The butler personally drove the car, sending the three of them home, saving them the trouble of taking a taxi.

Fushimi Roku rolled down the car window, leaning lazily against the door to aid digestion. The autumn evening breeze blew in, exceptionally comfortable.

The butler drove the car slowly through the front yard, turning at the gate. At this moment, Fushimi Roku could vaguely feel someone watching him.

With one hand resting on the window, he followed his sixth sense and looked up. The Kujo residence was hidden in the darkness, the lights inside now on—a silhouette stood at the fourth-floor window and just as he looked up, it flashed by.

Fushimi Roku sensed a faint sense of malice.

The next second, the car drove past the intersection, and the wall blocked his view, leaving him only able to see the roof of the Kujo residence.

Fushimi Roku withdrew his gaze, turned and asked the butler, "By the way, how many children does the Kujo Family have?"

The butler glanced at the rearview mirror and said, "The Family Head has four children. Miss Tamako's mother is the eldest daughter; next is Master Hikari, the eldest son of the family; then there is Kujo Takeshi, who has four daughters; the youngest is Master Ryo, who has been studying abroad in the United States and returned home not long ago..."

He paused, "These are the direct descendants, beyond them, there are many relatives too numerous to mention."

Minamoto Tamako could never remember how many relatives were in the family, not because her memory was poor, but because she had never bothered to remember such things.

Now hearing the butler mention her uncles, Minamoto Tamako gradually matched their faces with names in her mind.

"Oh! Uncle Takeshi is very nice, always speaking softly, everyone says he's not like a Kujo family member... Of course, this doesn't mean he's not related by blood, he still resembles my grandfather..."

"Uncle Ryo, feels like it's been a long time since I've seen him. I remember he was very rebellious, often arguing with the family. I didn't expect he could get into a university abroad, seems he was very diligent in his studies..."

"Those cousins are so annoying, chattering non-stop and irresponsible. Once during a New Year gathering, they dragged me to play Hide and Seek, and I hid too well, they left me and went home..."

Minamoto Tamako rambled on, introducing her relatives to Fushimi Roku.

The butler ignored Tamako's divulging family details, concentrating on driving for a while until Minamoto Tamako finished her account and Fushimi Roku had no new questions. He then subtly suggested, "If Mr. Fushimi is interested, I could suggest to the Family Head to arrange a dinner, to meet and get to know each other..."

Before Fushimi Roku could respond, Minamoto Tamako pulled a long face and stretched her words, "Eh—recently we might be quite busy, unable to find time."

Dealing with just one grandfather was already exhausting, and if a few more relatives came to criticize, could life still be livable?

Minamoto Tamako didn't like visiting relatives much, so she quickly came up with a little white lie to brush off the suggestion.

The butler nodded with a smile, not mentioning it again. They didn't talk for the rest of the journey, and Minamoto Tamako and Taira Sakurako sat in silence, not wanting to chat.

After arriving home, the three bid the butler farewell, walked into the courtyard, and prepared to bathe and rest.

Minamoto Tamako and Taira Sakurako took their baths first, and then it was Fushimi Roku's turn.

Fushimi Roku sat cross-legged on the tatami mat, his head leaning against the wall, lost in random thoughts.

From the direction of the bathroom came the sound of water splashing, occasionally mixed with the muffled voices of Minamoto Tamako and Taira Sakurako. He stared at a corner of the ceiling with a mold stain shaped like a crow with a twisted neck.

The wooden partitions weren't soundproof; he could clearly hear the creaking sound of a plastic bottle being squeezed, presumably Minamoto Tamako squeezing shampoo.

The ventilator at the end of the corridor slowly turned, bringing the humid scent of bath soap to his nose.

It was a mixture of mint and citrus.

Fushimi Roku idly rubbed his thumb over the splintered edge between the floorboards until he heard Minamoto Tamako exclaim, "Sakurako, don't turn off the light suddenly!"

The bathroom door opened a crack, releasing billowing white steam. Taira Sakurako, wrapped in a large towel, ran barefoot down the corridor, leaving a trail of wet footprints.

Fushimi Roku looked away, hearing Minamoto Tamako fumbling for a towel and her muffled voice through the door, "Just five more minutes! I'll be done soon!"

Five minutes later, Minamoto Tamako, now in pajamas, urged Fushimi Roku to take his bath. Fushimi Roku acknowledged with a sound but didn't move.

She was about to dry her hair, glanced at Fushimi Roku, and sensed something was off with the deputy leader's mood, then asked, "What's wrong? Is your stomach upset?"

"No," Fushimi Roku replied, "I'm just thinking about something."

"What are you thinking about?" Minamoto Tamako felt he was a bit serious, so she turned off the hairdryer.

"Do you think your grandfather will pass the Family Head position to which child?" Fushimi Roku suddenly asked.

"Does it matter? It won't be passed to me anyway." Minamoto Tamako thought this guy's greed was acting up again, having already received fifty million was good enough, now he even coveted the Family Head position.

"That's very strange. Isn't your mom interested in this matter either?" Fushimi Roku asked again.

"Yeah, she doesn't like going back to the old home, often arguing with Grandpa." Minamoto Tamako turned the hairdryer back on, feeling Fushimi Roku was talking about trivial matters.

"For a large family, inheritance should be the most important thing, right?" Fushimi Roku rubbed his chin, his thoughts growing even more tangled, "I've just been thinking, Kujo Hikari's motive for murder is very odd."
