Tokyo: Rabbit Officer and Her Evil Partner

Chapter 446: Wedding (Part 2)

Minamoto Tamako was overflowing with girlish dreams, squeezing into the crowd to take a look. The bride's dress was beautiful, and the groom was handsome. It was simply a fairytale wedding.

Today turned out to be the perfect day to be here.

Fushimi Roku stood on the side. After watching for a while, he got a bit bored and wanted to explore elsewhere. He heard there were some automated dolls on the second floor that he was curious to see.

But Minamoto Tamako refused to leave. She still wanted to watch, as weddings are a lifelong dream for girls.

Even though Minamoto Tamako's goal is to become a famous detective and police chief, claiming she has no interest in matters of love, in reality, she had played house with Kawai before, acting as both the bride and groom... though the bride was murdered and the groom was chasing the perpetrator.

Fushimi Roku had no choice but to wait with Taira Sakurako. That's the downside of group travel: when faced with sights you're not interested in, you have to accommodate others.

After the bride walked down the red carpet and the host finished the speech, it was time for the bride and groom to exchange heartfelt speeches. The groom, eyes on his crumpled notes, nervously stumbled over his words as he recited his eternal love for her.

It seemed cliché, yet it was apparent that he was sincere.

Then it was the bride's turn. She didn't use a script; she took the microphone and started talking about the groom's past confessions: "His first proposal was on the cable car at Hakodate Mountain. It was foggy that day; we intended to see the night view, but halfway up, the power went out, leaving us suspended two hundred meters in the air."

As the bride spoke, a smile spread across her face, her tone full of happiness: "In the darkness, he took out a small box from his backpack. I later learned it contained the necklace he saved three months' salary to buy. He was so nervous that the box tumbled and rolled on the cable car floor several times."

As the bride recounted this, the groom bashfully bowed his head and smiled, while the audience erupted with good-natured teasing.

"At the time he said: 'Well, since we can't see the night view now... how about we look at it together every day from now on?' Then he frantically searched for the necklace all over the floor before eventually finding it with a flashlight under the safety seat."

The bride puffed out her chest, the necklace gleaming in the light: "Look, this is the necklace that almost fell off the cable car."

A round of amazed exclamations followed, with endless applause as everyone offered their blessings.

Minamoto Tamako was both touched and envious, watching until the couple exchanged rings, kissed, and the ceremony ended, leading to the luncheon, after which Fushimi Roku pulled her away.

So the morning passed by in a daze. By lunchtime, the three found a small diner to sit down, the setting reminiscent of a small roadside shop from "Solitary Gourmet".

As the owner served the dishes, Minamoto Tamako recalled the wedding.

As they say, love fears comparison. She had never compared herself with others before, but after witnessing a normal wedding, she couldn't help but imagine what might happen at her own wedding:

Before relatives and friends, the bride, Minamoto Tamako, picks up the microphone and recounts their confession story: "Well, Fushimi lied to confess to me back then. He was really dying, said it was to fulfill his last wish, and casually confessed to me, even forcing me to admit I confessed first..."

Damn it, how could she say that out loud?!

Minamoto Tamako slammed the table angrily, causing the condiments and soy sauce bottles to jolt.

Fushimi Roku, uncertain of what had gotten into her and fearing she would entangle him with Kujo Hikari's murder motive again, silently accepted the beef bowl handed by the waiter, breaking the soft-boiled egg on top and letting the sauce and yolk blend into the rice.

Mmm, it looked delicious.

Fushimi Roku took a big spoonful, just putting it in his mouth when Minamoto Tamako said beside him, "Hey, have you ever thought about sincerely confessing to me?"

"What? Didn't I already confess?" he asked while chewing the beef bowl, thinking that the confession stage had long passed. Why bring it up again?

"I mean a sincere confession!" Minamoto Tamako took her mixed fried pork bowl with both hands and mumbled softly, "Your previous confession was so perfunctory; there's no sincerity at all! At least others give a necklace... I'm not asking for anything expensive, just something thoughtful..."

Fushimi Roku suddenly realized she was envious.

"What's that saying, 'If others have it, my girl should have it too'? Fushimi Roku couldn't bear seeing Minamoto Tamako feel wronged. He smiled kindly, pulling out a coin from his pocket and said, "You're right. Take this 500 yen and ask the bride for the necklace. I checked—it's just an iron chain."

"Huh?" Minamoto Tamako was stunned, feeling even more upset: "You're brushing me off again."

"How is that brushing you off?" Fushimi Roku kept eating: "I think I'm being sincere."

Minamoto Tamako snorted, huffed, and moved a few meters away, sitting on the other side of the table, seemingly intent on eating alone, determined to cold-shoulder the ungrateful Roku.

Fushimi Roku enjoyed the rare peace and quiet, planning to coax her after finishing his meal.

But before he could take more than two bites, Taira Sakurako popped up and said, "If you plan to confess, I recommend doing it at the Otaru bonfire night."

She finished, pulling a crumpled poster from her overalls pocket, smoothed it out, and placed it on the table—it looked as if it had been fished out of the trash.

Fushimi Roku focused on it: the poster was vibrant with colors, advertising this year's autumn bonfire and fireworks festival, talking about various customs and deities... The words were unclear as Taira Sakurako had folded it so many times that the edges were frayed.
