Tokyo: Rabbit Officer and Her Evil Partner

Chapter 455: Rookie Criminal Police Officer (Part 2)

Not right, try again.

Minamoto Tamako felt a bit guilty, she slightly raised her head and peeked around; obviously, there couldn't be a third person in the room, but she still felt a little nervous. She quickly moved closer and gave a light peck, just a dragonfly touch of the lips.

Still no reaction.

Minamoto Tamako got a little bolder, sneakily moving closer and leaning slightly forward, intending to continue. Just as her lips touched, Fushimi Roku suddenly grabbed her and started kissing.

Minamoto Tamako murmured with a hint of delight in her heart, going along and hugging Fushimi for a bite.

...

Unfortunately, happy times are always short-lived.

The two took turns showering, and Fushimi Roku pretended to sleep for another half hour, so, they didn't kiss for long before the 8 AM alarm went off.

Fushimi Roku didn't lift his head, reached back and slapped off the alarm, and in the gap of Minamoto Tamako's breathing, proposed, "How about taking a day off today as well?"

"No way!"

Minamoto Tamako jolted, pushed Fushimi Roku away, wiped her mouth, and said, "How could you take a day off without a reason... I must go to work today!"

Fushimi Roku found it inexplicably confusing, he couldn't quite understand, so many days off had been taken already, what's one or two more days?

But soon he understood what it was about.

Minamoto Tamako had just been officially promoted to criminal police, wanting to leave a good impression on colleagues and leaders, partly boasting and wanting to go back to the station to show off a bit, and finally wanting to handle a case as an official criminal police, feeling it would surely be awesome!

This was a big step towards becoming a famous police chief!

Taira Sakurako was also dragged out of bed, she only slept for an hour or two today, still groggy when getting up.

The three, with dark circles under their eyes, brushed their teeth, washed their faces, and changed clothes.

Fushimi Roku first sent Taira Sakurako to school, then on the way back, asked for leave from the police station and went home to take a nap.

Minamoto Tamako waited around at the station for a long time but didn't see Fushimi Roku come to work. A phone call revealed that he was already sound asleep.

She had been looking forward to working officially as a criminal police with Fushimi, planning to suggest to the chief that they become partners from now on—criminal police are usually paired with a rookie and a veteran, which is why the seasoned cop and newbie rookie combo often appears on TV shows.

But it was all in vain.

Fushimi Roku righteously declared: "Today is your first work day; if I don't perform well, won't it highlight your good performance? If we both go to work, people would think it's just ordinary;—on the contrary, if you go and I don't, people will see you as very diligent."

Minamoto Tamako couldn't argue with Fushimi Roku; after all, the section chief had already approved his leave. She still had to work, so she hurriedly muttered a few words and hung up the call.

Generally, the cases a criminal police receives are assigned by the section chief.

The section chief assigns police forces based on the case's priority; for instance, if there's hope in solving a murder case, a couple of extra hands might be drawn in; for a cold case that looks like it'll stay unsolved, a team is merely symbolically sent; if faced with performance targets or pressure from higher-ups, the entire group might be dispatched.

For a rookie like Minamoto Tamako—even though she has case-handling experience, Kinosaki Shoujin still considers her a newbie—she's not suited for handling major cases.

Kinosaki Shoujin plans to first give her one or two simple cases as practice, especially since Fushimi Roku took leave again, handling cases alone seems a bit unreliable.

He handed the case file to Minamoto Tamako, giving a brief introduction to the case:

"This is a case referred from the police station yesterday. A couple quarreled over debt issues, and the husband threatened to kill the wife, so she called the police."

"And then?" Minamoto Tamako hadn't had time to go through the case file: "Did someone die? Was the wife killed?"

"No," Kinosaki Shoujin folded his arms, "No one was killed, it was just a couple's quarrel. The husband said things like 'I'll kill you', 'go die', and so the wife called the police. Generally, such issues are handed over to the patrol police for coordination, but the police station couldn't resolve it, and later physical conflicts occurred between the couple, so it was transferred to us."

"Huh?"

Minamoto Tamako felt a bit disappointed, this was exactly like what she did as a patrol police!

Thinking carefully, back when she was a patrol police, handing over unsolvable cases to criminal police seemed quite normal… After all, the patrol police neither have the energy nor the ability to handle big cases.

Seeing her expression, Kinosaki Shoujin knew what she was thinking and admonished, "Don't assume these cases are simple. As a criminal police, you need to take every case seriously!"

Minamoto Tamako snapped to attention and saluted, saying, "Yes! I deeply apologize! I shouldn't be dismissive!"

Kinosaki Shoujin nodded with satisfaction, indicating she could start working. Should she encounter any issues, she could ask him anytime.

Not wanting to disappoint the section chief, and full of motivation, Minamoto Tamako nodded enthusiastically in agreement, and went back to her desk to review the case file.

As Kinosaki Shoujin mentioned, this was a family dispute. If forced to say, it could be linked to domestic violence.

Minamoto Tamako started taking notes while flipping through the file:

The husband, named Kuroda Kotaro, was a real estate agent, possibly due to being servile in dealing with business outside, his temper soared at home, with a history of drinking and wife-beating...

The wife, named Yakai Mutsumi, a full-time housewife, possibly because she was too idle at home and didn't want to be seen as someone living off her husband, developed a side job going out to play pachinko, losing more than winning...

Recently, Yakai Mutsumi lost all the household's living expenses, causing Mr. Kuroda to fly into a rage. They had a fierce argument, during which Mr. Kuroda said something like 'I'll kill you', terrifying Yakai Mutsumi into calling the police.

The patrol police, upon receiving the report, went to mediate.

Unfortunately, the couple's behavior left much to be desired; they could only be described as two scoundrels, making the mediation unbearably frustrating.

It's said the average quality of Japanese people is good, which is true. However, encountering someone with low moral quality can often exceed human limits, making a person sick for the whole day just from a few conversations… Averaging it out is what gives the impression of high average quality.

It's like using the wealth average method for billionaires and the poor.

Japanese otakus, psychotic people, extreme right-wingers, etc., need no additional mention—how disgusting they can be is beyond limits, even more than those in India; a quick search yields jaw-dropping reports.

In summary, mediation by the patrol failed, the conflict escalated, Yakai Mutsumi faced domestic violence and called the police again, leading to its transfer to the criminal section.

Minamoto Tamako had referred similar cases before, unexpectedly it came back to her hand in circles.

Thinking twice, it made sense. A case that the patrol police couldn't handle, handed over to the criminal police, precisely showed the criminal police's higher capabilities.

Those who can, do more!

Minamoto Tamako adjusted her mindset, analyzed the situation, though there wasn't much to analyze, and briefly wrote an investigation plan on paper.

First step, visit the Kuroda family;

Second step, find out who's at fault;

Third step, educate and correct, guide towards forgiveness, if not possible, advise the couple to divorce, parting on good terms.

Oh, and if Yakai Mutsumi wants to press charges, she'll help with the case making. The file records the domestic violence as 'a slap in the face,' which is hard to prosecute as it hardly constitutes as violence.

Minamoto Tamako checked her work, found no problems, reported her field activity, grabbed her briefcase, and headed out to work.

On her way to the Kuroda house, she felt a bit drowsy, so she bought a cup of coffee to perk up, to avoid accidentally falling asleep during mediation.

The Kuroda house wasn't far, within the Sugamo Police Station jurisdiction, located in an old Sugamo apartment complex where squalor was evident. Minamoto Tamako came from that area and was well aware of it.

For safety, she also carried a sidearm.

Twenty minutes later, Minamoto Tamako stood at the door of the Kuroda apartment, rang the bell, "Hello, I'm a criminal police from Sugamo Station, is anyone home?"

As soon as she finished speaking, a loud roar surged from the room: "You bitch, calling the police again! I'll kill you, believe it or not! I really will kill you!"
