"After all, this is a diary, so it's quite normal to read it from the back first."
The Hero preemptively defended before the other self could retort.
Although the Divine Knowledge Saintess wrote about the death of the previous Saintess on the last page, she did not mention the specific cause of death.
Thus, the Hero reached out and turned to the previous page, deciding to continue reading in reverse order.
The previous page was no longer written by the Divine Knowledge Saintess but reverted to the handwriting of the former Saintess.
However, compared to the elegant and composed handwriting on the first page, the handwriting on this page appeared obviously much more scribbled. Though still graceful, it exuded an unmistakable feeling of helplessness. Even someone like the Hero, skilled in calligraphy, could see the writer's exhausted mental state at that time.
'Although it started as a reward for that guy, after doing it for a long time, pouring one's feelings onto paper like this isn't entirely unpleasant either.
'Writing a diary for others to read sounds a bit odd, but it's one of the few things I can leave behind anyway.
'I wonder if she will find it delicious, but it shouldn't be considered inedible, right?'
Compared to the formal and rigorous written language at the beginning of the diary, the tone here was evidently much more casual, more like an ordinary diary.
The Hero pondered for a moment before suddenly understanding.
Although the Book Spirit had mentioned that it didn't fulfill the commission, it likely informed the previous Saintess of this result, yet the former probably maintained the habit of writing the diary. It was no longer to complete a transaction, but to leave a space for venting her feelings.
The Hero continued to read further.
'Tomorrow is the day to dispatch [].'
The handwriting in this line became heavy.

♛: Devouring Curse Demon
The Hero gazed at this section of text, as if witnessing the previous Saintess recording this inner voice with a weary yet clear mind on the eve of the campaign.
"Devouring Curse Demon..." she softly repeated the description in the diary, her emerald eyes filled with both surprise and an understanding.
The other self within her hummed softly in her heart.
She was naturally familiar with this kind of magic creature. The birth of the Depraved Hero, this dark side of herself, could not have been achieved without its efforts.
Moreover, even though life for her in the past month under the influence of the Forbidden Curse was somewhat muddled, the Hero hadn't forgotten the knowledge she memorized by reading late into the night during her time at the Church.
Although the records in the countryside church's scripture did not extensively discuss the cause of the previous Saintess's death, they detailed the series of measures the Divine Knowledge Saintess implemented upon taking office.
If it hadn't been for this month of intense studying, she probably wouldn't have been able to correlate the diary's content with the history of the Church, but now, the Hero's hand gently glided over the pages, and with the emergence of the text, correlated records flowed through her mind one by one.
'The first thing the Divine Knowledge Saintess did upon assuming her role wasn't to propose her own views, modify the Church's Holy Scripture, nor to deepen cooperation with the Kingdom, but rather — a Holy War.
'She led the Church's Holy Knight Order, Judgement Court, and other forces, dedicated to eradicating all evil demons lurking within human society and feeding on humans.
'This process lasted a full fifteen years.'
'During this time, numerous malignant magic creatures were completely exterminated from the Kingdom's land, notably, the extreme evil magic creatures represented by the Devouring Curse Demon were almost personally eradicated by the Divine Knowledge Saintess.
'This Holy War propelled both the Church's and the Saintess's prestige to new heights, subsequent to the abolishment of slavery.'
However, the targets of the Holy War extended beyond eliminating magic creatures. It also affected many alien races and demons at the time.
Despite the blurry divide between demons and magic creatures, the Hero knew that not all demons were inherently evil.
In the Divine Knowledge Saintess's relentless sweep, the living space for alien races within the Kingdom was also significantly compressed.
Like the Snow Women who craved human warmth, yet lived high in the remote Highland Snow Mountains, could be seen as a result of the impact from the Holy War.
Growing up, the Hero occasionally met some alien races, but she had never seen a demon.
It wasn't until many years after the Holy War ended, shortly after her birth, that the Church and the Kingdom began repairing the rift between humans and abnormal people.
Nonetheless, the Holy War led by the Divine Knowledge Saintess did bring about evident results.
Though weeds like Goblins couldn't be completely eradicated, the city where the Hero was born hadn't encountered such a crisis for decades excluding the recent Arcane Surge annihilated by her brother.
The ruins from the Arcane Surge decades ago still remain outside the city, awaiting erosion by time.
Even incidents like goblin group assaults on countryside villages hadn't been heard of for many years, resulting in unrest in the Hero's village.
Just less than a hundred years ago, it was common for magic creatures like the Devouring Curse Demon to destroy villages and towns.
During the most fervent period of the Holy War, the Church's prestige once even surpassed the Royal Family, only gradually returning to the status among the Six Major Guilds after the Holy War ended.
All these changes were brought by the Divine Knowledge Saintess. Though she didn't bring groundbreaking development to the Kingdom, she successfully transformed most of the Kingdom's territory into a human sanctuary.
Under her radiance, the achievements of the former Saintess seemed insignificant, rendering them only sparsely mentioned in the books.
