Rodney contacted Father Rivera to return. He exchanged phone numbers with Jimmy, agreeing to meet at the site the next day to help take a look. Jimmy then left the church and returned to Middleton to find a hotel to rest for the night.
The night passed without incident. Early the next morning, Jimmy came to the church again. Father Rodney had rested in the church overnight. As for Father Rivera, he had a place to stay here, having arranged to meet Jimmy at the church.
Father Rivera was the sole priest in this church. If he were away for a long time, there could be issues. However, with Father Rodney temporarily substituting for him, there weren't any major problems. Father Rodney was based in the New York Archdiocese and was adept at handling some faith-based consultations and confessions at such small churches.
Jimmy drove their assigned vehicle, followed by Father Rivera in his pickup, and they headed directly to the previous crime scene.
Jimmy had previously called Agent Randall at the field office, mentioning he would return to the scene for another investigation. However, there was no need for his team to come, he was just reporting it.
Agent Randall hung up and thought about it, ultimately deciding to send Agent Carlos Rodriguez to the scene to assist Jimmy. After all, Jimmy was from the Manhattan office, and this area was their jurisdiction, so they needed to be involved.
When Jimmy and Father Rivera arrived at the scene, Agent Rodriguez was already there. After greeting Jimmy and Father Rivera, he opened the door to let them in.
As soon as Father Rivera entered, he took the Bible he was carrying, placing it in his left hand, opened it with his right hand, and placed it on top. Observing this, Jimmy understood that Father Rivera, like him the previous day, sensed something was present in this house.
Jimmy: "Father Rivera, this is the house. Five people were murdered here in the living room, right here."
Jimmy pointed out the positions where the five people died to Father Rivera, quietly describing their tragic fates and causes of death. Father Rivera nodded, asked Jimmy and Agent Rodriguez to leave the house, and began reciting passages from the Bible in the living room.
Agent Rodriguez was just a regular agent and was not accustomed to such situations. However, while the priest recited the scriptures, he felt it was inappropriate to speak, so he stood next to Jimmy, watching Father Rivera in the living room.
Since Father Rivera began reciting the scriptures, Jimmy started switching between Heart Eye Vision and normal vision. He wanted to verify his suspicions—whether he couldn't see anything due to a lack of anomalies or due to limitations in his abilities.
Finally, Father Rivera concluded the recitation, crossed his chest, and signaled for them to come in.
Father Rivera: "Agent Yang, I'd like to check their rooms. Is that okay?"
Jimmy looked at Agent Rodriguez, who nodded. Jimmy guided Father Rivera into the rooms of the deceased for inspection. Father Rivera remained composed and professional in the presence of others, staying briefly in each room until he had gone through all five rooms.
He nodded to Jimmy, and the three of them went downstairs and outside. Father Rivera circled the house once more before nodding to signal to Jimmy that it was done.
Jimmy thanked Agent Rodriguez and left with the priest. They stopped at a secluded spot, and Jimmy got out of the car to wait for the priest to come over.
Jimmy: "Father Rivera, did you find anything?"
Father Rivera shook his head, then nodded, "There were no unusual findings regarding their deaths. Of course, the most significant factor is the long time that has passed. Even if there were issues at the time, they've dissipated now.
But I do need to tell you something. That house, due to the brutal deaths of the five people, has become a Spiritual Land of resentful spirits. We're fortunate to have come early; otherwise, resentful spirits would eventually form there."
Jimmy furrowed his brows in thought and asked after a moment: "Do resentful spirits form so easily? There must be certain conditions, right?"
Rivera: "Yes, ordinarily there are several conditions, like the deceased's lingering attachment, the place being a natural Spiritual Land, or special objects acting as triggers. However, I didn't find any special objects just now, nor did I discover evidence of the Spiritual Land around the house. My guess is that the center of the Spiritual Land was in the living room. It's possible there was a special object there when they died, which was later removed by someone."
Jimmy: "So, is the house no longer a problem?"
Rivera: "That's right, there's no problem anymore, or at least temporarily no problem. Whether it will occur again, we'll have to revisit in some time."
Jimmy: "Okay, thank you, Father Rivera. I won't go back to the church with you. Please convey my regards to Father Rodney."
Rivera smiled and said: "Thanks to your assistance, we were able to manage this. Thank you. Goodbye."
Jimmy: "Goodbye."
Father Rivera drove off in his pickup, while Jimmy stood by the roadside, thought it over, and drove to the field office.
Since it was known they might have taken something from the crime scene, Jimmy decided to confirm with Agent Randall and check the evidence. If it wasn't with them, the perpetrators must have taken it, potentially averting a major issue at the FBI evidence warehouse.
