North America Gunman Detective

Chapter 622: Darknet

Jimmy put away his revolver and placed it in the underarm holster. He returned to the car to find a bag, and used a flashlight to search the places he just passed by, picking up and collecting all the casings. These casings were all Jimmy's, and although it was uncertain if there were any fingerprints on them, it was better to be cautious, collect them first, and then either destroy them uniformly or find a place to discard them. It's much better than leaving them at the scene.

Rodney made a call over there. After a while, Jimmy heard sirens in the distance, and the flashing blue lights of police cars approaching. He looked at Rodney: "Did you call them?"

Rodney: "No."

Jimmy: "Turn off the flashlight, and the car lights."

Jimmy hung the FBI badge around his neck, watching from afar as the police cars approached. Fortunately, they were a bit perceptive, as the police cars sped down the highway without slowing down to stop. There was also a car speeding ahead of the police car, so it seemed the police cars were not targeting them, just chasing a speeder.

Jimmy waited for the police cars to leave before putting away the Glock and turned back to Rodney the Priest. Initially, when they were fighting, there wasn't much noise that got out, but afterward, Jimmy fired his gun, and at night, shooting multiple times by the river can carry sound far. No one would know if someone nearby might have heard and called the police.

Jimmy: "Priest Rodney, what exactly is going on?"

Rodney the Priest: "It's still about the aftermath of that incident in Middleton. Last time, we found that Oliver Torres conducted a live sacrifice and got possessed. We investigated their organization a bit. It's a small religious organization; their internal name is still unclear, but they call themselves the Chaos Gate externally.

Based on Oliver Torres' personal information and his contacts, we eventually pinpointed Moraven, called the Guardian internally by them. This time, while investigating Moraven, we accidentally got discovered by him, and afterwards, well, you know the rest."

Jimmy's expression changed slightly. This was intriguing. He wondered if the Church knew about the Dark Tower World, but Roland had clearly said that the Dark Tower World is the center, accessible to other worlds through the gates. Previously, various gates had malfunctioned, causing rifts between worlds and allowing certain things to enter this one. He and Jack Chambers had dealt with quite a few Evil Spirits and closed many rifts to ensure safety here.

The name Chaos Gate suggests that their church might actually know about reaching different worlds through these gates. Their act of sacrificing to summon possession by Evil Spirits should relate to this, right?

But how did these two—one located in Wisconsin, the other in New York—manage to get possessed? If they are all communicating through gates, does it imply there are gates in both of their locations? That seems improbable.

Then, there's the possibility that what they summoned for possession is already in this world.

Jimmy: "Have you located their base? Also, how common is this possession?"

Rodney: "It wasn't common before, but..." Rodney sighed, thinking for a moment, "I can't say anymore. Recently, it seems too frequent."

Jimmy: "Once every few months isn't too often; it's not particularly frequent."

Rodney shook his head, saying nothing more.

Soon an ambulance arrived; Rodney and his people directly got on and left. Jimmy inspected the scene and drove back to the apartment.

Nia had not asked when Jimmy left, but now that he was back, she naturally had questions. Jimmy brushed it off by saying he was helping someone watch over a place, then took off his clothes for a shower. Even though he did less than Father Turner and Priest Rodney, the tension he felt was certainly not less than theirs, especially when a person rushed up to him for close combat.

With a dagger in one hand and a revolver in the other, Jimmy mostly defended himself, only managing to make a few cuts with the dagger. But because his defense was nearly perfect, he wasn't hurt at all; his clothes just got a few tears, but nothing serious.

While Jimmy was in the shower, Nia got up from bed, picked up his clothes from the floor, and placed them on a nearby chair. Jimmy's bag of casings dropped out.

When she picked them up, Nia paused for a moment, took a look at Jimmy's holsters, and then the revolvers, realizing that Jimmy must have done something significant this time when he went out.

Both revolvers were empty, and the spare bullets on the holster were used up. There was an empty magazine in the Glock holster. Knowing Jimmy's marksmanship, for him to use that many bullets, did he take down dozens of people?

She glanced again at Jimmy's clothes. They were full of holes and unusable, but there were no traces of blood. Jimmy wasn't injured, which was good news.

Nia stood holding the holster and the gun for a moment, then placed Jimmy's gun on the bedside table. His spare bullets were in the drawer, so he could load them himself when he got out.

Wrapped in a towel, Jimmy came out of the bathroom, saw the gun Nia had placed on the bedside table, and shook his head helplessly, "Don't worry, it's fine. I was just helping out the Church, not what you think."

Nia: "You know what I'm thinking?"

Jimmy: "Of course. I won't commit massacres; this is New York."
