North America Gunman Detective

Chapter 643: The Cause

Mahong and Mark were initially pinned down by gunfire from the people in the SUV, which then escaped. They were empty-handed and needed to catch up quickly, so Mark drove while Mahong picked up the walkie-talkie to contact Jimmy, but received no response from him.

Jimmy, of course, had no time to respond. He had three people in front of him. Although he had already taken down one and suppressed another, one was still grappling with Falcknei on the ground, and there was still danger.

These three people were key clues to Jimmy's case-breaking, and he couldn't just shoot them dead. All he could do was shout "FBI, drop your guns and surrender, let me see your hands."

After shouting it several times, none of the three kidnappers raised their hands in surrender; only the one lying on the ground with injuries to both arms was writhing in agony.

"Help me!" Jimmy shouted a few more times, and not long after, Falcknei could no longer hold on. He was never one for physical confrontation; people like him usually just use their brains. Now grappling on the ground put him at a disadvantage, and although the driver had been shot in the leg, his movements were still formidable enough to crush him.

Jimmy couldn't wait any longer. He ran over while continuing to shout, much like how suspects often don't comply during police negotiations.

Approaching the vehicle, the kidnapper with both hands shot was leaning against the car body, appearing to have given up. Jimmy aimed his gun at him, "Get down, hands up."

Kicking him over, Jimmy pulled his arms behind his back to handcuff him. Only then did Jimmy stand up, feeling secure in handcuffing him because there was a vehicle for cover, so he didn't have to worry about bullets temporarily. Additionally, both men on the other side had been shot in the legs and had no chance of escaping. Not everyone can run as swiftly as those in films after being shot.

Circling around the car, Jimmy quickly ran to Falcknei. He was now being pinned down by the driver, who was reaching for his waist. Jimmy shouted: "Drop the gun, don't make me shoot you."

When the driver twisted to aim his pistol, Jimmy fired too. Because they were on top of each other, Jimmy's first shot hit the driver's body, and the second hit his arm. He then ran up and kicked the driver's waist, knocking him off Falcknei.

Freed from being pinned down, Falcknei immediately rolled to the side. Jimmy knelt on the driver's back, twisting his arm behind him, holstering his Glock, and used a zip tie to bind the driver.

He only had one pair of handcuffs on him, but he always carried zip ties, which was part of his standard gear.

After securing the driver, Jimmy went back to the person shot in both arms and legs on the ground and bound him with a zip tie as well. Then he pulled out his phone to call the backup team and arrange for an ambulance or fire truck for assistance.

"Falcknei, are you okay?" After the calls, Jimmy finally looked at Falcknei, who was sitting on the ground, breathing heavily and struggling to catch his breath.

Falcknei shook his head, panting: "I'm okay, thank you."

Jimmy checked on Falcknei to make sure he wasn't shot or injured, though his clothes were filthy and had several torn seams, likely from them pulling at each other's clothes during the struggle.

Jimmy stood up, picked up the walkie-talkie from his lower back: "Mahong, how's everything on your end?"

When there was no response after a while, he took out his phone and dialed again, "Mahong, it's over here, I've got all three people. How are you doing over there?"

Mahong: "The SUV got away, and the people inside shot at us. We're chasing them now, heading toward Queens."

Jimmy: "After the backup team arrives, I'll come to support you. Hang in there."

Mahong: "Alright. How's Falcknei?"

Jimmy: "He's fine, not injured."

Mahong: "OK, let's keep in touch."

Jimmy hung up the phone and looked at Falcknei: "Falcknei, stay here and don't run. Our people will be here shortly."

Falcknei's breathing was nearly back to normal. He nodded: "I understand. I won't let anything I promised get messed up."

Jimmy nodded. He needed to get the car, where he kept an emergency kit to give preliminary treatment to the three individuals.

What Falcknei promised was to testify against the captured kidnappers as a kidnapped victim, cementing their criminal charges, so interrogation could proceed.

As a middleman, Falcknei wasn't supposed to cooperate with the FBI. People operating in the shadows usually adhere to a code of silence. However, this situation was significant, and crucially, Neil— someone familiar to him—was now an FBI consultant, and his information was no longer a black box.

Driving the car over to them, Jimmy took out the emergency kit to perform first aid on one of them. The backup team had already arrived, only a few blocks away.

Jimmy entrusted the scene to them. Falcknei would go with them back to the FBI office to await Mahong and the others' return for interrogation. Of course, the three wounded kidnappers, being sent to the hospital, required agent supervision. Since this incident might involve mercenaries who could potentially be armed heavily, Jimmy specifically arranged for additional agents to go to the hospital.
