I stood on the observation deck of the aircraft carrier as countless bombs rained down in the distance. The last elder snake was putting up a good fight, but was being slowly worn down. Ever since my first encounter, it always amazed me how much punishment the elder snakes could take.
Two decades of missions, fighting, and becoming even more powerful. Mousethief and his schemes were interesting, but nothing worthwhile. Once I removed him, the experience I earned was much greater. He had been sabotaging me from the beginning. No creature would ever give up on Mes unless they were scheming.
While he had schemed experience off my father, he wanted someone who was more active, some he could manipulate. Well, he made a mistake. That had been a hard fight, but just one of many in a long string of them.
I was the Warrior's Shadow for over a decade now, and stronger than the even a team of paladins. I had wanted to fight the last elder snake in personal combat, but the Covenant Church had decided to soften it up first. I knew they wouldn't be able to kill it, just like the others.
Their global cooling plan had worked, but there had been consequences. Food production had gone down and there was a famine. I had to put down so many creatures and riots. The amount of blood that had ran from my claws was almost beyond counting. Mes would probably have a number if I cared to ask.
The snakes had also launched a massive assault on the island to wipe out the organization. That was their big secret plan, a big boat to carry over a lot of snakes. While it was annoying to have to move and many assassins had died, it was one of many last attempts the snakes did to try and break our stranglehold. That was the beginning of the end.
This last elder snake had hidden away. It had been a pain to track down to this island, but now there was no escape. All the snakes would be wiped out and any mention of them would be purged. I might have been more concerned, but the Covenant Church finally got around to the dream that my father and I had carried forward.
They had officially declared cats to be good creatures. A moment of triumph and had seen my father officially go into full retirement. He enjoy a nice island resort with his grand kittens. I had siblings who had kittens, but I never had a kitten of my own.
I had already said goodbye to my father and explained to him, that I would be going on a great journey. We talked quite a bit and had a light spar. He was like a kitten before me. The following morning, I found him still lying in his bed, unwaking. He had passed away in his sleep, happy and content. It was the first time I had shed a tear in decades.
Tom Cat was the greatest father one could ask for. Caring, kind, protective, he was an amazing cat and a better father. With his passing there was nothing holding me back from leaving. Mes hadn't been clear, except that there would be greater challenges and more difficult opponents.
I had set my sights further. I loved my father, but even he knew that the defeat of the snakes was just the beginning of what I desired. I knew there were other things out there to kill and get stronger. Mes offered many unique abilities to leave this place that I would be taking advantage of after the war was officially declared over.
While the Covenant Church was authoritarian and opaque, I was not concerned. I had not been concerned for a long time. I was beyond the power of anyone to kill. Perhaps an elder snake fully rested might have a chance at killing me, but even that was questionable. Even the paladins tread lightly around me.
The planes continued to unleash an unrelenting torrent of bombs down upon the elder snake without mercy or hesitation. The battleships surrounding the island would open fire once the planes were done releasing their payloads.

Looking out across the water, I wondered if the elder snake being bombed to death was the first one I had faced. I had never gotten its name, which seemed a shame. It was a dangerous opponent, one I respected. A rare thing since I didn't respect many creatures after my decades of killing. A regular snake was nothing but a joke to me.
I had filled up the Book of Snakes quite a bit. The strongest assassin, with the strongest technology, and welded togeather with the strongest faith in the Warrior. No one said anything as the bombardment continued. While there were some creatures present who held a high status in the Covenant Church, they would not dare to speak rashly in front of me.
There were many times over the years I considered breaking my leash, but the Covenant Church, for all their oppression, was a force for good. The snakes were pure evil. The remaining assassins in the organization were hunting down any remaining relics on the snake continent and purging any mention of them.
In a decade, snakes would just be a whisper told between old creatures, in a century, their memory would all but be forgotten except for the sealed records of the Covenant Church. The assassin organization had officially stopped its intake of creatures as well, signaling a new dawn of peace.
A dawn, I would not stick around to witness. The elder snake in front of me was my last target before I left. The experience would fuel my power as Mes strengthened me even further. "Lady Mittens, your boat has been prepared," a mouse said while bowing their head towards me.
"Very well, it is time to end this," I replied as I followed the mouse who led me to a motorboat. I got in and another mouse set off towards the island that was now being bombarded by the battleships. The elder snake was being softened up quite a bit. I guess the Covenant Church wanted to try and kill the creature without needing my assistance.
Unfortunately, even with all the technological might of the Covenant Church it was not enough. Elder snakes were truly the strongest of their kind. The current one had called down its ancestral spirit and was molting to heal itself. Exhaustion would be setting in soon and that would be my time to strike.
The motorboat got close to shore and I told the mouse to turn. I then leapt off and ran across the water to shore as the motorboat swung back towards the aircraft carrier. I didn't mind showing off a little bit for the observers watching. I could do a lot more than run across water. Air walking was one of my favorite and most secretive skills I had picked up over the years.
The elder snake loomed in the distance as I approached with a light jog. At least light for me. For other creatures it would have been death. "Hello, I am Mittens, and I will be your life conclusion specialist for today," I joked.
"Cat! Die!" Ah, snakes. Creatures of great temper and few words. Its massive head went straight for me. I casually flipped out of the way, my movement a blur to regular creatures. Even the snake struggled to keep track of me with its massive eyes. I kicked off the ground and went right for its body.
"Snake Slice!" The skill was just slice, but I liked to spice it up a bit. A deep cut through the impossibly thick scales, into the flesh and muscle was left behind. I still had work to do, since I wasn't able to cut the elder snake in half in a single strike.
Blood poured out of the wound. I casually leapt about, avoiding the thrashing of the elder snake. A shame that this was the last fight I would have before I left this world. "Snake Slice!" Another wound was left behind, as more blood poured out. The elder snake tried to bite and crush me, but it was too slow and I was too skilled in combat.
I was a one cat killing machine. As the elder snake finally breathed its last and collapsed, I smiled at the thought of all the experience. My senses picked up a bit of danger. I moved just as the battleships began opening fire once more. The planes were flying in to take me out.
Cute. Very cute.
Well, if the Covenant Church wanted to give me one last battle, then I would give them a battle to remember. Kicking off the ground, I soared into the air. Another kick and the sound barrier shattered as I went flying towards the air craft carrier. I could see paladins rushing into place, but they were nothing compared to me.
They called upon the Warrior, but it was a joke. Compared to the elder snake, they were nothing. I just casually moved behind them and swung my paw. Armor, ancestral spirit, and any other protection was cut into, decapitating them one after another. They were all too slow.
While I did think about visiting the headquarters of the Covenant Church, I had no desire to upset the world itself. They would just live in fear of me once I disappeared. Always wondering if I would return and kill them all.
Fear, that was what drove the Covenant Church. Fear of the snakes. Now that they were dead, fear of skilled assassin creatures. Fear of me, Murder Mittens.
