Immortal Creed

Chapter 323: Blocking the Road

Looking at Alfred before him, Liens's face grew a few shades more serious.

He had not gone far from Patridge City when he sensed Alfred's aura, and with the opponent's strength, by the time he sensed his aura, he should have already been exposed.

To be honest, he was somewhat surprised by Alfred's appearance here.

Given the opponent's current injuries, it was not wise to run around instead of recuperating properly.

Therefore, upon receiving the invitation signal, Liens did not hesitate for long before slightly altering his direction to find the opponent.

He wanted to see what this Sword Saint had to say to him?

"Sit."

Alfred gestured for Liens to sit down and chat leisurely.

Liens did not refuse, stepping forward slowly and sitting on the stone chair opposite Alfred, who then pushed over a cup of hot tea at the right moment.

"I originally thought I'd stay for a bit and then head back, but I didn't expect to wait for nearly five days… It seems my old friend's predictions aren't always accurate."

Alfred took a light sip of the tea in his hand, then grumbled.

"Originally, I was indeed planning to depart four days ago, but some matters came up, so it was postponed until now."

Liens also took a small sip of tea, calmly answering the doubt in Alfred's words.

Now he didn't need to be wary of Alfred; this wasn't to say his strength surpassed the opponent's, but rather that if they were to truly fight in his current state, Alfred would be digging his own grave.

Alfred wouldn't do that as long as he still wanted to achieve Legend.

"Is that so."

Alfred showed a knowing expression, then dropped the topic, instead asking Liens, "Do you know why I'm waiting for you here?"

"I have a guess, but I'm not entirely sure."

Liens nodded and then shook his head.

His connection with Alfred was nothing more than being opponents in the Battle of Destiny; Alfred needed to overcome him as an obstacle to complete his Legend ritual, otherwise he couldn't prove himself to the world.

Therefore, Alfred was probably here to arrange the time for their decisive battle, officially commencing the prelude to this Legend ritual.

Indeed, Alfred's next sentence confirmed Liens's guess.

"It seems you've already sensed it… That's right, I'm here to set the time for our decisive battle. When you arrive at the Royal Capital, that will be the time of our final battle."

"I won't specify the exact date; it's meaningless. Destiny will likely ensure we are both prepared and meet at the opportune time."

"Also, you should have felt the feedback from the 'Beliefs', right?"

Liens nodded.

The 'Beliefs' Alfred referred to was the The will of all people, which could also refer to the 'Karma of All Beings' he bore, essentially the expectations of the common people.

"Although the current chaotic situation wasn't solely caused by me, it is also a result of my deliberate inaction to achieve my goals."

"To meet you, I allowed the Rebel Army to grow, I permitted the rebellion of those frontier nobles, and I even allowed that person to construct a ritual in this country."

"It can be said that half of the disasters currently faced by the people of this country can be attributed to me."

Alfred gave a bitter smile.

"Of course, I'm not here to confess any sins to you, just to remind you that it's time for the chaos in this country to subside."

"However, you don't seem to need my reminder either."

"How about this: the south goes to you, and the north goes to me… We'll clear out other forces, quell the domestic disasters, and then begin our final battle in the central Royal Capital."

Alfred's face was serious, and Liens also nodded solemnly, agreeing to Alfred's arrangement.

The south was the main stronghold of the Rebel Army; although the Rebel Army had not yet fully occupied the entire south, it was close, with only a few border cities remaining, such as Kara City previously.

The north, however, was an area the Rebel Army had not yet touched, and the situation there was more complex.

Numerous forces, including the frontier nobles Alfred mentioned and guerrilla armies supported by other foreign powers, were mostly entrenched in the north.

Although each of these forces was far inferior to the Rebel Army, their combined strength was not to be underestimated.

Previously, much of the Hartwin Kingdom's military strength was used to resist these northern forces, while the Rebel Army, the strongest among the rebels and protected by an evil god, was left for Alfred to deal with.

However, the powerful figures in the Royal Capital never expected that Alfred, the 'Pillar of the Nation' who could single-handedly contend with ten thousand soldiers, would almost fall into the hands of the Rebel Army, and not even by the hand of an evil god.

This was truly beyond the expectations of those high-ranking figures in the court, even disrupting their plans.

Alfred's severe injury made these people realize that the Rebel Army was not a destined-to-be-annihilated rebel force, but a powerful threat that could overthrow their rule.

Facing the immense threat posed by the Rebel Army, the powerful figures in the Royal Capital naturally chose to prioritize their own safety rather than consider the overall situation.

So they recalled most of the troops suppressing the north and began to garrison the south and strengthen the defenses of the central Royal Capital.

This was also one of the important factors contributing to the escalating chaos in the Hartwin Kingdom.

After discussing the arrangements, Alfred began to chat with Liens about some 'personal matters'.

"Although your appearance was sudden, and not many people knew you before then, after some investigation, I still learned about your situation from my old friend."

"To be honest, your growth experience is truly unique. The Earl of the Glenbagen Family probably never imagined his family would be destroyed by the very assassins they cultivated."

As he spoke, Alfred couldn't help but laugh, probably finding this unexpected development quite amusing.

"So, I want to hear your thoughts on the current Hartwin Kingdom, coming from a humble background."

"Although in my opinion, the fact that the Hartwin Kingdom's situation is so chaotic also means that this nation, which has endured centuries of trials, has reached a stage where it must be broken down to be rebuilt."

Alfred looked at Liens seriously, awaiting his response.

"If you wish for me to judge the merits of the Hartwin Kingdom versus the Rebel Army, I probably cannot give you a satisfactory answer."

"Perhaps, besides those few supreme existences, no one can judge whether a nation will become better or worse after being broken down and rebuilt?"

"Destiny is fickle; we walk at our respective crossroads, and only by walking long enough can we know if this choice aligns with our initial vision."

"Before that, we can only rely on worldly experience and our own feelings to determine good and bad."

"Therefore, I dislike nobles who drain the blood and souls of commoners to maintain their extravagant lives."

Liens said calmly, then picked up his teacup and took another sip of tea, indicating that his words were finished.

"You dislike them, do you… Yes, I don't like them either, but unfortunately, I myself belong to this class, so some things are difficult for me to change."

"If I lose, then you must help me change this country well."

Alfred chuckled.

"Alright, that's all for now… I'm leaving. See you on the destined day."

With that, Alfred stood up, his figure slowly ascending into the air. Before leaving, he finally said to Liens:

"The trouble behind those three on the ground, and the matters of the Neil Kingdom, I leave to you."
