"Is that...a badger?"
Seth frowned softly, quickly taking direct control of a nearby puppet. He hooked its foot underneath the furry menace and punted it into the air as if he was trying to score a goal from across the field.
The black blur easily lifted into the air, its form becoming clearer as it was unable to fly and could only wiggle in the air as it reached its peak before starting to descend. In those moments Seth's question was answered quite easily as he got a much clearer look at the strange creature.
Yes, it was actually a badger. A honey badger, to be specific. But that's what was most confusing about it.
It wasn't a badger made out of honey, or one that had control over it in some strange way that would make Winnie the Pooh drool in envy. It wasn't even mutated in any visible way. It was simply... a normal honey badger.
A mass of black fur, with a patch of white across its back, that was filled the brim with so much rage and aggression, that there was no room left for fear or basic common sense when it came to knowing what it should or should not attempt to fight.
Not that such things even mattered to the honey badger, as its defences were so legendary that their lack of care given became a common phrase that spread around. Even now, as it was falling through the air, it was simply wriggling in annoyance as it snarled and snapped at the air, as if it was trying to attack gravity itself for daring to drag it down.
Bob's arm cannons glowed brightly as he let loose a salvo of shots, raining down a hail of fierce purple orbs onto the strange badger, creating dozens of thunderous booms so close together that they merged together into one singular, deafening boom.
Yet all the explosions managed to do was redirect the badgers fall, as it still snarled and snapped its jaws as if the dozens of explosions were little more than a light breeze.
It hit the ground, bouncing like a beach ball, and immediately flipped over to its feet before shooting off, weaving through the legs of some puppets while launching itself into the throats of others, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
It was only 20 inches long from head to rump, or 1 and a half foot. In terms of height, its stubby little legs meant that it didn't even reach above the shins of most people. Yet this rage filled ankle biter didn't care about such things either, and often fought things much larger than itself.
In the land before the mystical evolution, that was usually lions and even elephants. But in this new world, it seemed it had developed a particular fervent obsession with Omelette.
But despite being severely outclassed, and small enough that Omelette could use it as a toothpick, the badger showed absolutely no fear. Instead it was Omelette that feared it.
The Wyvern flew over the battlefield, blasting the badger with azure flames that washed over its fur like a refreshing shower. The unrelenting badger charged towards Omelette, killing or avoiding everything in its path, only for Omelette to fly away before it could reach it.
It wasn't as if the badger was being allowed to move and kill unimpeded either. It was simply that nothing phased it. Swords, axes, morningstars and maces. Boots, fists and even heads.
Everything was thrown at this creature, but nothing even so much as ruffled its fur, never mind actually had a chance at piercing its seemingly invincible hide. Yet simply looking at it would make anyone believe that it was simply a normal, completely unevolved honey badger.
It was utterly baffling. That was, until Seth remembered something Angel had once told him.
Mythology and collective consciousness effected their evolution at some level. It was what was responsible, at least in part, for why so many creatures that were once thought to be myth or legend had appeared.
Of course there was always the chance they had arrived from elsewhere, like Prometheus, and become part of legend. Or perhaps even both, that a previous visitor spawned the legend that in turn created the creature a new from the mundane.
Regardless, people's beliefs were what shaped this phenomena, and Seth himself knew how powerful belief, and especially Worship, could be.
But while he had been so focused on legendary creatures becoming real, such as the Nemean Lion or Wyverns, he had neglected the most obvious result. The fact that legendary creatures that already existed could become even more powerful, and even closer to their legends.
In fact... Puddle Sharks had already been the first sign of it. He had simply not realised it until now.
A shark that could appear in any body of water, such as a pool, fulfilling the irrational fear that so many had previous. If that could happen... then it was entirely possible that a cockroach could become immortal, that a panther could turn invisible in the dark or even that a whale could become a fish!
Okay... that last one was a little less terrifying. But it was still possible based on misconceptions. The most important one however, was the thought that a honey badger could actually become utterly fearless and finally be truly Invincible.
Seth narrowed his eyes, studying the curious creature closer in order to find some kind of weakness or way around its invincibility. Even with a brief examination, a few things were obvious.
For one, although it was feral and savage in its aggression, as expected from a small fur-ball of pure rage, it was not entirely random in its attacks. Although it certainly attacked a lot of things for simply being in its way, it also avoided others.
It was also especially vengeful, taking revenge on those who kicked or punched it hard enough to send it flying. Swords and the like didn't seem to spur that ire, but it especially hated hammers. Plus, the fact it kept redirecting itself towards Omelette meant it was hoping to take down the Wyvern, for one reason or another. It was attracted to strength.
Secondly, as his very first observation showed... It was just a normal honey badger. An invincible one who could shake off fire breathing and explosions like they were leaves in the wind, yes. But a normal honey badger nonetheless.
It's defence was its only mystical ability. The lethality it showed stemmed from that. Claws and teeth that wouldn't break accompanied the strength of most evolved creatures. But it had little to no range. That was all it had.
A smirk danced across the Avatar's lips as Seth glanced at the horde of creatures, taking another look at what was currently alive and still fighting.
"Don't worry Bob, I'll take care of the badger. But it's a shame to let all those creatures go to waste... there's some good potential there. Why don't you see if you can round up some new members for the Colosseum.
The stable-master will be glad to have some new furry friends."
Bob frowned at his father, who began to drift to the ground as he hummed a merry tune to himself, and wondered how he could have such a nonchalant view on this absolute mess, but he knew better than to question him. He was a man who could do many wonderful things, even by this world's standards.
If he said he could handle it, then who was he to disagree?

The Honey Badger leapt onto another living statue, it's claws immediately blurring as it tore the statue's smug face to shreds. Although they were only strengthened versions of its normal ones, it still dug through solid stone easier than dirt.
How could it not? It didn't need the pointy metal sticks or shells that these things used. It was the most powerful and fearsome creature in the entire world! No matter what it faced, these little claws would tear it to shreds and all would fear the mighty Honey Badger!
"Fore!"
A hammer slammed into the badgers side, sending it flying off of the statues headless shoulders. It careened through the air, flipping over to get a good look at its attacker and soon-to-be next victim, before it hit the ground and bounced a few times.
As soon as it rolled to its feet, without even a hint of pain despite the blow, it charged forwards.
It usually had to slip between the legs of the stone and metal men, letting their attacks harmlessly bounce off its splendid pelt, but for some reason its path was perfectly clear this time.
It didn't matter. They would all fall after this one.
The badger leapt forwards, snarling and hissing as it brought its claws down towards the smug face of the latest metal man... only for it to swipe through thin air.
It quickly landed, letting out a snuff of confusion and whirled itself around, only to find the metal man still standing there. The wretched hammer was resting on its shoulder, and the smug expression was still on its face instead of being torn to shreds.
It lunged again... and again, and again. It leapt, snapped, swiped and bit. It dug through the ground and even tried to bait him close by showing its rear.
But no matter what it did, the metal man would just not. stand. STILL! It wasn't even moving its legs, just gliding through the air as it stood on a flat bit of tree. So why couldn't it hit the damn metal man!
Unyielding rage overflowed from the badger, its tiny body filled with so much anger that it was literally trembling and foaming at the mouth. It dug its claws into the ground, bore its teeth and raised its head as it hissed, before shouting in a shrill, girly voice.
"WHY CAN'T YOU STAND STILL LIKE A REAL MAN AND JUST LET ME KILL YOU!? What's the matter? Are you too scared to lose to a girl, huh?!"
