Above the Great Dao

Chapter 515: Heavenly Silkworm (Part 2)

Chen Shi beat his chest and stamped his foot in frustration.

Lady Houtu became increasingly pleased with herself, and said with a smile, "Who told you to act without asking clearly? Now you've snatched the Tiansilkworm, you've offended them. But don't worry, your godmother may not have other skills, but she's quite good at muddling causality. Immortal Monarch Qin won't reckon against you."

"Immortal Monarch?"

Chen Shi's face changed dramatically, becoming more and more regretful, "Now I've needlessly gained a powerful enemy, I'm afraid I won't be able to eat or sleep at ease! No, I must quickly construct a True King's Tomb, lest I end up dying at the hands of Immortal Monarch Qin, with my corpse rotting before the grave is even dug."

Lady Houtu hurriedly said, "Rest assured, Immortal Monarch Qin absolutely won't be able to find you. I know very well what he's capable of."

Chen Shi was skeptical, "What exactly is he capable of?"

"He's about on par with a Heavenly Venerate."

Chen Shi's face turned ashen, utterly dejected, muttering to himself like he had gone mad.

Lady Houtu quickly comforted him with a few words, and only then did Chen Shi gradually emerge from his depression.

Lady Houtu chuckled, "It's not without reason that I had you steal his Tiansilkworm. He wronged me back then, which is why he has today's fortune."

Chen Shi asked, "Godmother, how did he offend you?"

"It was just a small matter before he became an Immortal."

Lady Houtu didn't elaborate, and said, "Don't be downcast. This Tiansilkworm is a treasure that Immortal Monarch Qin painstakingly found, meant to assist him in passing through the Opening Tribulation. You acquired the Tiansilkworm, thus you have a sixty to seventy percent chance of passing the Opening Tribulation."

Chen Shi's heart stirred slightly, as he looked at the Tiansilkworm on the mulberry leaf.

He saw that the Tiansilkworm had eaten itself plump, transforming into a white-haired little girl, waddling toward the straw hut with her belly sticking out.

"Can this Tiansilkworm really help pass through the Opening Tribulation?" Looking at it made Chen Shi increasingly doubtful.

"What is the girl's name?" he asked.

The white-haired little girl arrived at the straw hut, boiled water for tea to aid digestion, and looked up saying, "I am called Can'er, that's what my previous master called me. My master calls me Can'er, indeed."

Chen Shi shook his head, saying, "I am not your master, I merely need the silk you produce. Godmother, can you liberate her?"

"Such a simple thing."

Lady Houtu casually pointed, causing the collar on Can'er's neck to fall off, with the collar and chain dropping to the side.

Can'er stood dazed, somewhat bewildered.

She had dreamt of freedom for a long time, but now that it had abruptly arrived, she instead felt at a loss.

After a while, Can'er squatted down, picked up the collar, and put it back around her neck.

Seeing this, Lady Houtu did not rescue her further, instead gently flicking her sleeve, sending Can'er flying from the mulberry leaf to land on the small boat. The collar and chain remained, but the collar was as large as before, while the chain had shrunk many times.

Meanwhile, the hundred-acre mulberry leaf had also shrunk to just two inches, hanging under her neck.

Her straw hut became so tiny it seemed like a button on the mulberry leaf.

"When hungry, take a small nibble, don't eat too much." Lady Houtu instructed.

Can'er was both surprised and delighted, hurriedly thanking them, and then said to Chen Shi, "Master, after I finish this mulberry leaf, please fetch another to hang on the chain so that I can conveniently eat."

Chen Shi agreed.

Can'er was grateful, saying in a fawning manner, "I can spin silk to weave garments for Master, as a way to repay!"

Chen Shi felt somewhat embarrassed, saying, "Can'er, shouldn't you be angry that I took you?"

Can'er shook her head, "Master hasn't fed me any whip, Can'er is very thankful, and plans to liberate me, Master must be a very kind person."

Chen Shi slightly frowned, thinking, "How does Immortal Monarch Qin usually treat her? I don't treat her well, yet she thinks I'm extremely kind, hence she is grateful."

Originally, he had intended to return the Tiansilkworm to the Fusang Tree after using it, but now that thought was gone.

"I cannot quickly change Can'er's thinking, so let her be for now. After spending more time together, she will naturally change." Chen Shi thought to himself.

Unconsciously, the Willow Leaf Boat sailed into the Dark Sea once more. Earlier, Chen Shi had sailed from the Dark Sea into the Xuanhuang Sea without much thought. But now, sailing from the Xuanhuang Sea into the Dark Sea, gazing at the boundless dark, felt chilling.

Transitioning from light into limitless darkness indeed brings immense fear, making one hesitate to tread forward.

Upon entering the Dark Sea, Chen Shi suddenly felt an intense sense of unease, which only gradually vanished over the span of sailing for a while.

In the darkness, directions were hard to distinguish, leaving Chen Shi incapable of gauging where the Willow Leaf Boat was heading, and he thought, "If it were up to me, I'd end up gradually lost in the dark, not knowing to where I drift. So, is Huaxia Divine Continent also amid the Sea of Darkness?"

The Willow Leaf Boat sped forward increasingly quickly, delving into the darkness.

Amid his rambling thoughts, Can'er suddenly roused him, smiling flatteringly, "Master, I weaved a garment for you, try it on."

Only then did Chen Shi notice that, somehow, the white-haired little girl had woven him an emperor-style Daoist robe using silk. The Daoist robe he wore was of a style passed down in Great Ming, said to have been handed down by Emperor Jia Jing. The clothes woven by Can'er were identical to his, yet even more exquisite and skillfully crafted, a marvel of heavenly workers!

The only regret was that this set of Daoist robe was pure white, devoid of any other colors.

Chen Shi accepted the robe, immediately putting it on—it fit quite well—and praised, "Can'er truly has good craftsmanship!"

Can'er was very pleased, as if she had never received such praise, and said with a smile, "I'll weave another set of undergarments for Master."

Just as Chen Shi was about to thank her, Lady Houtu lazily said, "Weave it then, weave. Once we reach the West Bull New Continent, you won't be able to produce silk, and this little girl will tire herself out."

Chen Shi quickly said earnestly, "Can'er, you're not allowed to weave garments for me anymore! You may weave only if I permit you, and cannot act rashly without my consent."

Can'er nodded dutifully and cautiously picked up the mulberry leaf, holding it by her lips.

"Eat less of it," Chen Shi instructed.

Can'er took a small bite, looking rather aggrieved.

Yet the mulberry leaf's original size was a hundred acres, thus a slightly large bite might cause her to burst.

Chen Shi felt somewhat worried and inquired, "Godmother, how much silk does Can'er need to produce to circle West Bull New Continent once?"

Lady Houtu chuckled, "The silk used to weave the clothes on you is enough."

Chen Shi was startled to realize the clothes given by Can'er had consumed so much silk.

Lady Houtu said, "Garments woven from Heavenly Silkworm Silk are naturally Immortal Artifacts. This type of silk is strong beyond measure, resistant to water and fire, impenetrable by weapons, and unharmed by thunder law, exceedingly powerful. If it's further refined, and reinforced with Dao Pattern Secret Technique, its power becomes even stronger."

Chen Shi felt this gift was far too precious, and looked at Can'er, unsure of how to repay her.

He pondered deeply, and suddenly had a flash of insight, asking, "Godmother, how exactly did Immortal Monarch Qin offend you?"

Lady Houtu explained, "It's not so much offending me, but when he hadn't ascended to become Immortal, due to grudges he committed familicide, leaving the victims as wandering ghosts who came to me before reincarnation, lodging complaints. I merely noted it down. But he became Immortal, and the Heavenly Tribulation erased his mortal causality, so I couldn't do anything to him. That's why I always wanted to find some trouble for him."

Her teeth gnawed with a grinding sound.

Chen Shi chuckled inwardly, thinking, "Finally, a way to repay Can'er. If I steal the Fusang Tree to give to her, wouldn't that be perfect?"

Just then, amidst the waves in the darkness, a wooden boat appeared and reappeared within the surges. Chen Shi looked from afar and saw a Daoist bound on the boat, his heart stirred, and he hurriedly asked, "Godmother, can you rescue that Daoist?"
