The Ghost-faced Man's true body escaped, leaving only an Illusion Body here.
However, Manjusri seemed enraged by his slander against the Awakened, and his Sword Qi relentlessly pursued from hundreds of miles away, determined to cut down the one who had slandered under the sword.
It seems this Buddha Country Great Master indeed holds the Awakened in high esteem, not tolerating one bit of slander, even if Manjusri hadn't spoken so loudly before...
Now everyone knows that Karma Tathagata and the Awakened might look identical, and the Awakened might even cleanse those who defy him, killing all the Jiang Family members left in the Buddha Country. While Manjusri made a show of disbelief, his words had already planted a seed in others' hearts.
"Oh dear, why is it that every time I speak the truth, someone always doesn't believe it? Clearly, my life's principle is to be honest with others, without any false words."
The Ghost-faced Man's Illusion Body spoke empty words with his eyes open, while secretly observing everyone around. He had a premonition that a certain person who liked to boast "honesty with others" was surely nearby, and that the news of the Awakened and Karma Tathagata looking alike was likely spread by this person.
Others might have the thought of muddying the waters, but absolutely wouldn't know the secret of the Awakened and Karma Tathagata, and among those who knew the secret and could be so unscrupulous, it would only be that good brother.
Back when they first went to Yong Province, the good brother had already connected with the Awakened, and even though I met the Awakened then, I could clearly see the entanglement between the two.
Unfortunately, someone had also discovered the identity of this Fourth King of the Fire House Buddha Hell and had been on guard for a long time. Even when the Ghost-faced Man suddenly spoke "honesty with others," he couldn't catch Jiang off guard.
"Forget it, forget it, I have already said enough. You all, if you don't believe it, can wait for the news from the Buddha Country."
Unable to find his good brother, the Ghost-faced Man had a helpless, wronged look, and he said leisurely: "Go to rest, go to rest."
This Illusion Body gradually faded and disappeared completely within just two or three breaths.
At the same time, Tan Wuwei also lost sight of its true body's trace.
"It's already gone far," Tan Wuwei said.
Manjusri, still looking angry, said in a cold voice to the monks inside and outside the city: "The Fiend of the Buddha Prison harbors malicious intent and attempts to slander the Chief. All monks must not listen to the slander, nor discuss amongst yourselves. If anyone disobeys, this seat will not forgive lightly."
Even so, those who knew Manjusri was determined not to return to the Buddha Country could understand that Manjusri wanted people to suspect this was an order from the Awakened.
Just like the previous issue with Karma Tathagata's appearance, Manjusri wanted to shift the blame onto the Awakened.
Only in this way could he justifiably stay outside without returning to the Buddha Country.
As for the deaths of the Jiang Family members, Manjusri was indeed angry, but to say he was really heartbroken would be too hypocritical. Manjusri might still have thoughts about the Jiang Family, but his feelings for the family members had long since faded.
Compared to the overall situation, such anger was scarcely worth mentioning.
'Manjusri still doesn't know that the Awakened is quite happy to see the monks not returning,' Jiang Li observed this interlude, clearly understanding Manjusri's intentions, 'The Ghost-faced Man was indeed speaking the truth; the Awakened really does want to conduct a purge. If Manjusri returned to the Buddha Country, the Awakened would be put in a difficult position.'
While thinking, Jiang Li was also observing Jiang Liuguang.
He saw this third-grade member of the Jiang family with a cold expression, but had no intention of opposing Manjusri's actions, clearly agreeing to smear the Awakened.
The Jiang family and Manjusri's stance were tightly bound; if the Buddha Country's forces returned, the Jiang family, who had already returned to the Divine Country, would be in deep trouble.
These two third-grade members from the Jiang family appeared the angriest, yet they were also the most ruthless. Since the family members had already died, they would be used to the fullest extent to support the current situation.
After issuing a ban and setting a trap for the Awakened, Manjusri led everyone to the Governor Mansion in the city.
Along the way, they saw monks from the Buddha Country coming and going, eliminating remaining resisting soldiers or cultivators, and dismantling temples in the city.
Eighty percent of the temples in the Nine Provinces worship the Emperor Yan and the Yellow Emperor. Although Yong Province was a major rebel base against the Great Zhou, it also worshipped the two ancient ancestors. This Da Xing City, being the capital of one province, would lack the ancestral temples anywhere else but not here.
The monks moved the Yellow Emperor's Divine Statue out of the temple, leaving the Emperor Yan's statue inside but also removed it from the divine seat, replacing it with the already prepared statue of the Great Sun Tathagata instead.
They had even made the Buddha statues ahead of time, stored them in storage magic tools, and immediately replaced them after capturing Da Xing City.
Even other Bodhisattvas and Arhats' statues were taken out in sequence to be placed in order in various temples.
Changing the temples into Buddhist temples was a higher priority than reaching the Governor's Mansion.
On the way, Manjusri smiled at Jiang Li and said: "Wuzhiqi Buddhist friend, after blessing all of Yong Province, your Buddha statue should be erected too, and then these incense offerings will be yours to share."
Theoretically speaking, the Dao Fruiting Path should not accept the divinity and the Buddha's path, practicing the Summoning Technique was thus more than doubling the effort, yet only those who practiced the Summoning Technique were truly kindred spirits. The speed of practicing the Summoning Technique wasn't the problem; the problem was whether or not they practiced it.
Clearly, Manjusri intended to mark Wuzhiqi with a sectarian imprint by saying this.
