What is an immortal?

Chapter 194: Surprise Attack (Two-in-One Big Chapter)

Having heard the words of the Great Cave Master, the disciples of Biluo Cave, who had been as disoriented as headless flies, finally found their backbone. They stopped their disorderly retreat and assembled in groups of threes and fives behind some Foundation Establishment cultivators toward the direction of the three main peaks.

Yuan Ming's gaze shifted back to the direction of the mountain gate and found that Wulu's figure had completely disappeared.

Originally, he had thoughts of returning to the Fire Refining Hall and seizing the chance to slip away, but seeing the sinister glances of the Great Cave Master scanning the crowd, he decided to simply follow the retreating disciples toward that direction.

By the time he arrived, more than two hundred people had already gathered on the spacious plaza. Many had expressions of relief akin to having survived a catastrophe, mixed with nervousness, and many were still not fully recovered.

Not long ago, Biluo Cave had been one of the Five Great Sects in the north of Ten Thousand Mountains at the Southern Border, with a Mid-stage Core Formation Great Elder in residence and three Core Formation Cave Masters running daily affairs. Its strength was not inferior to the other four sects. Even a registered disciple from the sect, encountering ordinary people, was regarded as a "superior immortal," a cut above other loose cultivators. Hearing that one was a cultivator from Biluo Cave, others would not dare to cause any trouble.

But now, they had been suddenly attacked and caught off guard. The Foundation Establishment elders they once looked up to were either dead or injured, and even the Sect Protection Array had been broken through.

Many were somewhat despondent. If not for the Great Cave Master stabilizing the situation and the revered image of that mysterious Great Elder established in the past, they would probably have disregarded everything and scattered in a panic.

The Second Cave Master was leading seven or eight Foundation Establishment cultivators, systematically directing disciples arriving one after another into different areas for assembly. This scene did stabilize the emotions of the Qi Refining disciples somewhat.

Yuan Ming looked and saw that the entire plaza and the area in front of the rear mountain had been deliberately divided into nine different assembly points.

With nearly a hundred people, the Second Cave Master was in the very center of the plaza while the other eight Foundation Establishment cultivators, with varying numbers of elders and disciples, sat scattered around, forming a circle nearly a thousand feet in diameter.

Unknown to everyone, complex and difficult-to-understand runes had appeared under their feet, interconnected, and some spots were embedded with differently colored mid-grade Spirit Stones, clearly forming a large, fully engraved array.

Although Yuan Ming wanted to return to the Fire Refining Hall, given the situation, he naturally couldn't leave and was assigned to join an assembly point with about a dozen people.

Most of these people were registered disciples, and the Foundation Establishment cultivator in the center was tall, with a scar under his right eye—none other than Wu Luo, the direct disciple of the Second Cave Master.

After arranging for Yuan Ming and the others to take their positions, he fixed his gaze on the Second Cave Master in the middle of the plaza, seemingly waiting for the next instructions.

However, it wasn't long before a noisy clamor arose in the distance, and the people from the Dawn Organization had chased to within a hundred feet.

"No more waiting, start now!" commanded the Great Cave Master, hovering in mid-air. After issuing the order, he summoned a giant rocbird and flew toward the direction of several battle groups in the distance, apparently to assist those surviving forces.

The Second Cave Master immediately took out a palm-sized square stone slab, cast it to the ground, and it transformed into a square stele about one fathom high. He placed both hands on the stele, channeling his mana into it.

The runes on the square stele instantly lit up, shooting out a beam of light that soared straight into the sky.

The other eight Foundation Establishment elders surrounding the area each took out a slightly smaller stone tablet as well, transformed them into steles, and channeled their mana into them, promptly resulting in eight more beams of light soaring into the sky.

Nine towering light pillars stood, each connected by spreading blue light that intertwined to form a blue array that shielded the entire plaza in front of the rear mountain.

The rest of the people within the array primarily focused on protecting those operating the Array Eyes. Noticing the intense fluctuations emitted by the array, their panicked emotions finally eased a bit.

However, many disciples were still uneasy and confused.

Even some of the Foundation Establishment elders appeared anxious and were unsure of what they would face next, or when that mysterious Great Elder would appear.

The members of the Dawn Organization who arrived first did not pause at all but immediately began their attack.

The methods that had previously bombarded the Sect Protection Array were once again employed here.

However, no matter how they attacked, the Great Array merely showed ripples of spiritual power, appearing very stable.

Yuan Ming noticed that with every strike's glow and fluctuation, a layer of red light emerged on the surface of the elders' stone tablets, accumulating little by little, deepening in color.

At that moment, seven Foundation Establishment cultivators from the Dawn Organization formed a circle, with a person in the center suspending a palm-sized black inkstone above his head, while the others continuously channeled magic formulas into the inkstone.

As the black inkstone slowly rotated, rings of runes swirled and jumped on its surface, emitting bursts of black light.

Soon after, the person in the center chanted a few times and cast a magic formula, causing the inkstone to suddenly rise high into the air and expand to the size of a building, carrying the overwhelming force of Mount Tai as it smashed down toward the array below.

Watching this, the disciples of Biluo Cave saw the dark shadow covering them like dark clouds, causing a wave of panic, and they couldn't help showing a look of fear.
