What is an immortal?

Chapter 361: Night Parade of Hundred Demons

Yuan Ming had no intention to kill the Three-eyed Crow. After all, this beast was a very rare yin attribute spirit beast capable of unleashing powerful yin attacks. Its third eye could even see through illusions and disguises, making it highly valuable to cultivate.

Although the beast had already been tamed by that green-robed old man earlier, which greatly increased the difficulty of subduing it again, it was not hard to achieve with the soul cultivation techniques Yuan Ming possessed.

Yuan Ming didn't pay attention to the beast, turning his gaze to the center of the stone chamber instead.

There sat a large white screen, two zhang in length and one zhang in height. The semi-translucent screen was embroidered with the figures of men, women, elderly, and children, as well as animal shapes, all of which appeared vivid and lifelike.

Figures that Yuan Ming had already seen, such as the man in white clothing, the woman ghost in red skirt, and the Bull-headed Ghost Yuan Ming had first slain, were all there.

However, these figures, along with seven or eight others, appeared very dim, forming a stark contrast to the other lively figures.

On the other side of the screen, three corpses lay on the ground: they were none other than Fang Youting, Feng Qi, and Ya Xian.

What was eerie was that their bodies had already started to merge into the screen. The white screen seemed to consume people, swallowing the bodies of the three bit by bit.

Feng Qi and Ya Xian had been delivered here much earlier and were already swallowed up to their thighs, while Fang Youting, who had just been brought by the Three-eyed Crow, had only his feet merged into the screen.

"It can even refine corpses? Tsk tsk, what a wondrous magic treasure," Hua Zhi entered and remarked upon seeing this scene.

"Hmm, this object is called the 'Night Parade of Hundred Demons'; it is a rarely seen treasure, incomparable to ordinary magic treasures," Yuan Ming looked at the white screen and slowly said.

"The Night Parade of Hundred Demons? Could it be that those ghosts outside are controlled by this screen? To control so many ghosts at once is indeed a heavy treasure," Hua Zhi clicked her tongue in admiration and shot out a vine aiming to touch the screen.

"Do not touch this object. This 'Night Parade of Hundred Demons' is incredibly fierce. Apart from the person who refines it, any living creature that comes close will be devoured whole, body and soul, never to be freed," Yuan Ming hastened to stop Hua Zhi.

"That's powerful! Master, the dim figures on the screen look like the ghosts that previously died for that green-robed old man. Could it be that the old man couldn't be killed because of this screen?" Hua Zhi quickly retracted her vine and asked.

"There is some relation, but it's not solely because of the screen," Yuan Ming said.

He learned about the green-robed old man's identity and origins, as well as everything about the white screen, from the man's memories.

The green-robed old man claimed to be the "Heavenly Ghost Wanderer," originating from a sect in the Northern Desert called the Wuyue Sect. He was framed, defected from the sect, and became a Loose Cultivator.

As for the white screen, named "Night Parade of Hundred Demons," it was not refined by the Heavenly Ghost Wanderer himself but was an exotic treasure he stumbled upon years ago in the Soul Burying Abyss.

The Night Parade of Hundred Demons was utterly different from ordinary magic treasures. The Heavenly Ghost Wanderer could not fully sense the rune formations inside the screen; he could only detect four runes located at the four corners of the screen. As for the depths of the screen, it was enveloped by an invisible yet robust force that he, despite trying various methods over the years, failed to decipher.

Eventually, the Heavenly Ghost Wanderer simply refined the four runes. After some exploration, he had an initial grasp of the Night Parade of Hundred Demons screen.

Even with just four runes refined, the Night Parade of Hundred Demons already possessed inconceivable divine powers.

Currently, the screen had two abilities. The first was the collection of ghost spirits.

Just like a Spiritual Beast Bag, the Night Parade of Hundred Demons had internal space and could directly collect ghost spirits into it.

The screen contained powerful Space Power and had a broad range for capturing ghost spirits. Any ghost that entered its range would struggle to escape being collected by the screen.

The Night Parade of Hundred Demons could not only collect ghost spirits, but it could also release them from the internal space, and the placement of these spirits could be decided at will.

The fact that the man in white clothing fell to Yuan Ming's illusion technique and then mysteriously appeared next to the Heavenly Ghost Wanderer was due to this capability.

The second ability of the Night Parade of Hundred Demons was Ghost Spirit Rebirth.

This was the most crucial ability of the screen. It could refine a cultivator's body together with their soul into a Ghost Spirit Body, turning them into a ghost slave within the screen.

The ghost slaves converted in this way would not see a reduction in strength and would retain many of their abilities from when alive, as well as being completely controlled by the owner of the screen.

Although named 'Hundred Demons,' the screen could control far more than a hundred ghost slaves. The Heavenly Ghost Wanderer had refined various types of ghost spirits over the years; not long ago, he killed everyone in Earth River City and refined thousands of ghost slaves, still far from reaching its limit. Yuan Ming estimated the Night Parade of Hundred Demons could refine four to five thousand ghost creatures.

The ghost slaves refined by the Night Parade of Hundred Demons were divided into three levels. The first level consisted of those whose realm was weaker than the owner's. Most of the ghost slaves refined by the Heavenly Ghost Wanderer were of this level.

These level one ghost slaves would not appear on the screen.

The second level consisted of ghost slaves whose realm was on par with the owner's. These ghost slaves would be displayed on the screen and be entirely controlled by the owner.

The third level comprised ghost slaves whose cultivation was higher than the owner's. Similarly displayed on the screen, the owner could not fully control these ghost slaves. The higher the ghost slave's cultivation compared to the owner's, the more difficult it was to control them.

The Heavenly Ghost Wanderer was at the mid-stage of Core Formation in terms of cultivation, and the Ghost Slaves he had refined up to now were all at the level of Core Formation, with just one or two whose cultivation was slightly higher than his. Even the higher ones were limited in strength, making them not difficult to control.

As for the Undying Divine Power of the Heavenly Ghost Wanderer, it was a product combined from the Night Parade of Hundred Demons and his Divine Soul Transformation ability.

The Divine Soul Transformation of the Heavenly Ghost Wanderer was a Three-eyed Soul Dove, which had an ability called "Substitution Tribulation." It could transfer the damage received by its original body to the person possessed by the Three-eyed Soul Dove, but each use of this ability would consume one Three-eyed Soul Dove.

This "Substitution Tribulation" ability was quite mysterious. The closer the relationship and the more similar the situation between the person possessed by the soul dove and the Heavenly Ghost Wanderer, the better the effect of "Substitution Tribulation."

In the past, the Heavenly Ghost Wanderer had no suitable targets to transfer to and could only use this ability to transfer some minor injuries he sustained. After getting the Night Parade of Hundred Demons, he was ecstatic.

The Heavenly Ghost Wanderer was a Soul Cultivator, and the Ghost Slaves refined by the Night Parade of Hundred Demons were soul bodies with auras very similar to his. Moreover, they were connected by a master-slave contract, which greatly increased the range of injuries that could be transferred.

Ever since obtaining the Night Parade of Hundred Demons, the Heavenly Ghost Wanderer's strength had greatly increased. In battles, he seemed to be invincible, no longer afraid of injuries, and even when facing opponents one or two levels higher than himself, he was not afraid at all.

However, fortune and disaster coexist. After gaining great strength from the Night Parade of Hundred Demons, the Heavenly Ghost Wanderer became increasingly arrogant and conceited, and today he finally died at the hands of Yuan Ming, someone he originally didn't even take seriously.

Yuan Ming's face showed a thoughtful expression, and then he flicked his fingers.

A sword Qi entered the Spiritual Beast Bag, and a blood hole appeared on the forehead of the unconscious Heavenly Ghost Wanderer inside the bag, his breath completely dissipated, but he was quickly resurrected again.

Yuan Ming released another sword Qi into the Spiritual Beast Bag.

Through Soul Searching, he had deduced that the Divine Soul Transformation of the Heavenly Ghost Wanderer must have been used up and he could no longer use the Substitution Ability.

Indeed, another blood hole was pierced through the forehead of the Heavenly Ghost Wanderer, and his breath quickly disappeared completely, with no resurrection this time.

Wisps of Blood Mist floated out from the Night Parade of Hundred Demons, which were the Essence Blood and Mana left by the Heavenly Ghost Wanderer inside it.

The Ghost Slaves outside, having lost their master's control, quieted down. Then, with expressions of wild joy, they scrambled to flee into the distance.

Not just the ghosts outside, but also from the Night Parade of Hundred Demons, a black light surged out, and the Core Formation stage Ghost Slaves inside it detached from the screen and ran towards the distance.

Yuan Ming did not stop them. No matter how far these Ghost Slaves fled, they could not escape the bindings of the Night Parade of Hundred Demons, and catching them one by one afterward would be easy.

He cut his finger, and a drop of fresh blood fell onto the white screen, quickly merging into it.

A mysterious connection formed between him and the Night Parade of Hundred Demons at once, the feeling of estrangement gone.

Yuan Ming summoned Vajra and had it along with Hua Zhi stand guard outside the Stone Chamber. He then set up a protective prohibition inside the Stone Chamber and took out the Stealing Heaven Tripod.

He grasped the Night Parade of Hundred Demons, channeled his Mana and Divine Sense into the Stealing Heaven Tripod, and along with the Night Parade of Hundred Demons, entered the space of the Stealing Heaven Tripod.

Yuan Ming sat down on the White Jade Lotus Platform, forming hand signs to refine the Night Parade of Hundred Demons.

His Soul Power suddenly increased tenfold. With the experience of the Heavenly Ghost Wanderer's prior refinement, he quickly refined a rune, deepening his connection with the Night Parade of Hundred Demons even further.

Yuan Ming did not continue to refine the scroll but instead took out the corpse of the Heavenly Ghost Wanderer and threw it into the Night Parade of Hundred Demons.

A chill white light surged out from the screen, enveloping the corpse of the Heavenly Ghost Wanderer, pulling it into the scroll and rapidly refining it.

A moment later, the Night Parade of Hundred Demons had refined the corpses of the Heavenly Ghost Wanderer, Fang Youting, and other several individuals. Four silhouettes gradually emerged on the Night Parade of Hundred Demons, becoming increasingly clear.

The cultivation realm of the Heavenly Ghost Wanderer was forcefully reduced to the Qi Refinement stage by a Curse Rune used by Yuan Ming, but the man's Divine Soul Power was exceptionally strong. Despite being weakened multiple times, it still possessed the strength of a Love Witch Level, hence his form still appeared on the Night Parade of Hundred Demons.

Yuan Ming closed his eyes to sense the Ghost Slave that the Heavenly Ghost Wanderer had turned into, and his face soon showed joy.

After being turned into a Ghost Slave, the Heavenly Ghost Wanderer retained most of his abilities from his life, including several Soul Cultivator techniques. Among them was the "Substitution Tribulation" ability he cared about the most.

The "Substitution Tribulation" ability could not only transfer his own injuries to others but could also transfer injuries from others to himself.

With the Heavenly Ghost Wanderer's ability at his disposal, in future major battles, Yuan Ming would effectively have an extra life, an ability none of his current Magic Artifacts or Magic Treasures possessed.

Yuan Ming then sensed the Ghost Slaves that Fang Youting and the other two had turned into. Their cultivations were the same as when they were alive, and they retained some of their abilities, but all were rather ordinary and lacked distinctive features.

The only one that was somewhat interesting was Fang Youting. He had cultivated a Thunder and Lightning Technique in his previous life. Now transformed into a ghost body, the Purple Thunder Power within him had turned into Yin Thunder. Compared to the fierce and overwhelming Yang Thunder, Yin Thunder seemed somewhat eerie and appeared to be able to erode the meridians of others. As for the specific effects, further experiments would be needed to find out.
