What is an immortal?

Chapter 478: Entering the Country

"The first danger within the secret realm is Star Rain," Elder Luu Changfeng said.

Seeing the crowd's puzzled expressions, Luu Changfeng wasn't surprised. After clearing his throat, he continued to explain:

"No one knows how this rain forms. You can simply think of it as rain made of starlight. It occurs periodically. There is nowhere to hide from this rain; you cannot evade it by flying high into the sky or tunneling into the ground. One can only resist it using magic artifacts, magic treasures, or defensive magic. Among these, magic treasures and spells with star attributes are the most effective. This has already been mentioned in the mission jade scrolls given to you earlier."

Only then did everyone understand why Fusang Island had asked them to prepare several star treasures.

"Star treasures are extremely rare, and you might not be able to purchase them. Here are some Heavenly Star Shield talismans specially made by Fusang Island; I bestow upon each of you three to prepare for emergencies." Elder Luu Changfeng took out a stack of blue talismans and tossed them out with a wave of his hand; three landed in front of each person.

The crowd looked at one another and collected the talismans.

"Elder Luu, what about the second danger?" Long Chong asked.

"The second danger comes from the Starry Sky Beasts. These beasts are formed from the power of stars, lacking common weaknesses of demon beasts, and are nearly indestructible. If you encounter one, your best option is to flee," Elder Luu Changfeng explained.

"What if we can't run away?" a young man with dark skin, looking like an ordinary farmer, hesitantly asked.

"If you can't run away, you'll die!" Elder Luu Changfeng glanced at the dark-skinned youth and said indifferently.

The young man's complexion turned pale, and a trace of fear gleamed in his eyes.

Standing beside the dark-skinned youth were two people, a man and a woman, both seemingly young.

The man carried a fish basket and a fishing rod, looking like a fisherman; the woman wore a blue cheongsam and a flowered hat, similar to a tea picker.

The pair, wearing worried expressions, discussed in low voices with the dark-skinned youth, debating whether to give up their journey into the secret realm.

"Three little cowards," Qing Tong spat disdainfully.

Others looked at the trio with similar disapproval in their eyes.

In the information Yan Siyun had provided, Yuan Ming had seen the profiles of the three; the dark-skinned youth was named Baili Zhui, the fisherman was named Hua Ping, and the tea picker was named Zhong Ling. They belonged to the first-class islands of Red Leaf Island, Wanhua Island, and Yuzhu Island.

Red Leaf, Wanhua, and Yuzhu, while first-class islands, were at the bottom of the tier and not adept at combat; instead, they specialized in arrays, talismans, and the cultivation of spirit grass, among other auxiliary skills.

Being aware of their own weaknesses, the three islands had a very conservative approach to their affairs. They barely left their own islands except for necessary trade activities and refrained from participating in the power struggles among the islands of the East Sea. They were often mocked by other first-class islands as the "Turtle Shrinking Three Islands."

Yuan Ming, without any prejudice like the others, approved of Baili Zhui and his companions' cautious approach. If he had not possessed the Stealing Heaven Tripod, a heaven-defying lifesaver, he too might have chosen to retreat.

"You may choose to withdraw now if you wish, just wait outside the hall," Elder Luu Changfeng said calmly.

After exchanging looks, Baili Zhui and his companions decided to stay.

Elder Luu Changfeng and the others then each took out a white jade plate and began casting.

Countless white spiritual patterns materialized in the void around the Light and Shadow Gate, binding the gate firmly and forming a sealing array.

As Elder Luu Changfeng and the others continued their casting, the spiritual patterns of the sealing array swiftly dissipated, revealing the Light and Shadow Gate.

A massive force burst out from within the gate, causing the entire hall to shake. The spiritual energy in nature became completely rampant, forming giant spiritual energy vortexes one after another.

Three mountain illusions, one red, one white, and one gold, rose slowly from within the Light Gate, rapidly growing in size as they ascended.

"This is the phenomenon of the Three Immortals Island..." Yuan Ming raised his eyebrows.

Wulu gazed at the three mountain illusions, a flicker of excitement crossing his face as he clenched his fists in secret.

The others also fixated on the mountain illusions with various expressions.

"Quick, the outbreak of the spiritual mountain illusions is accelerating. We can't allow them to fully manifest!" Elder Luu Changfeng barked, rapidly forming hand seals.

The other three did the same, pouring forth their mana like raging waves into the white jade plates.

Four beams of white light shot out from the jade plates, transforming into four giant white hands that grasped both sides of the Light and Shadow Gate and pulled with great effort.

A crevice emanating a deep, dark light slowly appeared within the Light and Shadow Gate, as if it led to another world.

Elder Luu Changfeng and the others exerted their full power on the jade plates and the Light and Shadow Gate was soon fully opened, revealing a pitch-black passageway that plunged into the depths below.

"Hurry inside; in thirty days, we will reopen the entrance to the secret realm and bring you back out. The amount of treasures you'll obtain depends entirely on your own fortune!" Elder Luu Changfeng announced.

Hearing this, the seventeen people inside the hall did not delay, quickly flying out and into the dark passage.

After the last person entered the passageway, Elder Luu Changfeng and the others stopped casting and the Light and Shadow Gate closed with a loud bang.

The four rapidly operated the white jade plates, and the Sealing Array reemerged, sealing the Light and Shadow Gate once again.

The mountain illusions, barely peeking above the surface of the lake, emitted an indignant roar as they slowly dissipated.

Luu Changfeng and his three companions let out sighs of relief, with their faces slightly pale, as if the spellcasting had greatly diminished their vitality.

The four didn't leave; instead, they sat down cross-legged inside the grand hall to recover their energy.

...

Thousands of miles out on the sea of the outer sea, a blue flying boat, over a dozen meters long, hovered low in the air. The entire ship was inscribed with countless star patterns, emitting thousands of dazzling starlights that enveloped the boat within.

All demon beasts within a hundred miles sensed the terrifying pressure of the flying boat and fled in terror.

Waves roared to the skies and dark clouds shrouded the heavens, with thick thunderbolts occasionally crashing down.

However, neither the waves nor the thunder could touch the blue flying boat. They would be repelled from a distance, and the flying boat stood firm as a mountain, as if it could remain unshaken even if heaven and earth shattered.

Inside a room of the flying boat, a burly man who was eight feet tall sat. His beard was like spear grass, bristling, and his eyes, large as copper bells, radiated an awe-inspiring majesty. He toyed with a white crystal ball the size of a fist.

Inside the crystal ball, spirit light flickered, revealing the vague shadows of three mountain peaks in red, white, and gold.

"Three Immortals Island has indeed reappeared. It was worth the many years of searching," the man cackled with a laugh that seemed to pierce the clouds, causing the nearby void to buzz in response.

Three figures stood opposite the man. To the left was a young man with white frosty brows and pupils as bright and white as snow, radiating a bone-chilling coldness.

In the middle was a middle-aged man with red hair, holding a blood-red walking stick, his eyes faintly gleaming with blood light, and his body enshrouded in a dense and extreme aura of evilness, coalescing into a revolving Black Wind.

To the right was a tall and attractive woman with purple hair and purple eyes. She seemed quite beautiful but wore a silver mask that covered the left side of her face.

"The information from Jia Sifang seems very accurate, not wasted our decades of accumulating star power to send him to the Inner Sea," the woman with purple hair said with a giggle, her voice as clear and melodious as a bubbling spring.

"What should we do next? According to his message, it's not easy to enter Three Immortals Island," the middle-aged man with red hair asked.

"According to the response of this Earth Vein Pearl, Three Immortals Island is to the northwest. Let's head there first," the burly man said.

The blue flying boat changed direction, turning into a stream of light and shooting northwest.

...

Yuan Ming and the others felt darkness descend before their eyes, as if they were plunging into a bottomless abyss, but soon light was restored, and they found themselves in a strange space.

The sky was a brilliant blue, similar to the outside world, except for the countless stars suspended above, each magnified several times larger than those outside, their bright starlight illuminating much of the sky.

Below the sky dome was an unfathomably deep black abyss that sent shivers down one's spine.

At the interface of light and dark, several continents floated—some extended as far as the eye could see, while others were only a few miles wide. The group currently stood on a piece of land about a dozen miles across.

The nature's spiritual energy of this space was exceptionally dense, no less than that of the outside world, and it was quite gentle, lacking the wildness of the outside.

The small continent they were on, though not large, was full of various flowers, plants, and trees, brimming with life. Unfortunately, no spiritual materials had formed. The many continents in the distance were also lush with vibrant life.

The individuals who had entered the secret realm were the elite of the various islands, worldly and well-informed, but they were still stunned by this bizarre world, and it took them a while to regain their composure.

"Ladies and gentlemen, we are to stay here for thirty days. This secret realm is fraught with danger, likely more than the two types Elder Luu mentioned. As we have just arrived, it might be better to move together initially, and after we become familiar with the realm, we can then go our separate ways. How about it?" came a hearty voice. It was Huan Ling Zi, who had stepped forward and made a proposal.

The others looked at each other with varying expressions, and for a moment, no one spoke.

"I appreciate Fellow Daoist Huan Ling's kind intentions, but I have always been accustomed to being alone and would rather not join in your cooperation," Daoist Qian Bao chuckled lightly, nodded at Huan Ling Zi, and turned into a golden light that shot into the distance.

The Golden Cloud Fairy transformed into a streak of red light and left without a word.

"Fellow Daoist Huan Ling, I will also take my leave first," Tu Sheng also chuckled, his plump body turning into a billowing yellow smoke that tunneled into the ground and disappeared.

Huan Ling Zi's face turned somewhat unpleasant upon seeing this scene.

The interest of those present in Huan Ling Zi's proposal was already minimal. They had refrained from openly opposing it due to the prestige of Kongling Island, but now with the Golden Cloud Fairy and Daoist Qian Bao taking the lead, they scattered like stars.

In a moment, only Huan Ling Zi was left alone.

"Shortsighted fools! Do they really think I need their help to succeed? Just wait until we get there, I'll show them!" Huan Ling Zi huffed coldly and, with a stomp, turned into a white light and went far away.

A few miles away, behind a large rock, four figures emerged—it was Yuan Ming, Long Chong, Qiong Yun, and Wulu in disguise.

"It seems the individuals from the first-class islands are indeed plotting something," Wulu remarked, eyeing the direction of Huan Ling Zi's vanishing light.

"Let them squabble amongst themselves; it has nothing to do with us. Let's start looking for treasures quickly. With the spiritual energy here so dense, there must be plenty of heavenly materials and earthly treasures. We can't leave empty-handed," Yuan Ming said, looking towards several distant continents.

"Indeed, I shall depart first. May we meet again if fate allows," Wulu nodded at Yuan Ming and the others, then transformed into a tunneling light and left.

"Fellow Daoist Long, Fellow Daoist Qiong, I think we should part ways here," Yuan Ming said, greeting Long Chong and the other and turning to leave.

"Please wait, Fellow Daoist Yuan. Although Fellow Daoist Huan Ling had his own agenda, there was some truth in his words. This secret realm is unpredictable, and it is quite dangerous to act alone. How about us three traveling together? It would be safer," Long Chong suddenly suggested.
