What is an immortal?

Chapter 522: Dragon Tooth Crystal

The expanse of this forest was unexpectedly vast, Yuan Ming and his two companions flew for half a day before they finally traversed it and arrived before a massive lake.

The journey had been peculiarly smooth, probably because two Nascent Soul cultivators were present, and though they didn't encounter any demon beasts blocking their path, neither did they come across any other cultivators who had come to the Three Immortals Island.

This fact secretly worried Lei He and Yan Xiang, but Yuan Ming appeared calm and composed throughout the journey.

The lake before them stretched boundlessly, with a faint mist covering the tranquil surface, showing not a single ripple.

In the distance, at the center of the lake, one could vaguely see three intersecting islands, which, when viewed from the lakeshore, resembled cone-shaped mountains carved by human hands.

These were parts of the same mountains Yuan Ming had seen earlier on the beach.

The closest to Yuan Ming and the others was a mountain of a golden hue that rippled with circle after circle of sun-like waves, dazzling to the eye.

At the bow of the Flying Boat, Yan Xiang and Lei He stood side by side, gazing at the golden mountain.

"The mountain shines like gold, radiant as the sun, it cannot be mistaken, this is the Golden Sunflower Immortal Island!" Yan Xiang said, unable to hide the excitement in his eyes.

"Three Immortals Island, Three Immortals Island, I originally thought it was three islands in the sea, but it turned out to be three islands in the lake. Even if the area is extensive, it probably isn't as vast as Fusang Island, nor does it have the extraordinary spectacle of the Fusang Divine Tree visible for thousands of miles. Does it truly deserve the name of an Immortal Island?" Lei He murmured to himself, shaking his head slightly.

"Well, what of it? After all, Three Immortals Island is known throughout the world, not because of its size, but because it is an Immortal's Dojo, home to countless opportunities. It doesn't matter if they are merely three lake islands, even a mound of earth inhabited by an Immortal can be called an Immortal Mountain," Yan Xiang retorted, his eyes blazing with fervor as he cast aside his previous indifference.

"Fellow Daoist Yan Xiang has a point," Lei He said noncommittally.

He looked back at Yuan Ming briefly before continuing to cast spells to drive the Flying Boat, speeding towards the three central islands through the mist above the lake.

However, shortly after the boat entered the lake, a sudden gust of wind swept in, catching Lei He off guard. The Flying Boat he was controlling shook violently under the assault of the wild wind.

At the same time, the sky darkened instantly, as clouds from nowhere blocked the sun. On the lake's surface, the howling wind whipped up murky clouds into a tornado that stretched to the sky, rushing towards the Flying Boat.

From a distance, the boat rocked violently, nearly being lifted by the tornado.

Lei He's face paled as he immediately began casting spells, struggling to stabilize the boat.

Yan Xiang flung his sleeve, and a green Feather Fan flew out, fanning towards the five tornadoes.

In an instant, a vast expanse of green wind rolled out like sea waves, charging towards the tornado in an attempt to block the fierce winds.

Understandingly, Lei He hastily maneuvered the Flying Boat to the side.

However, as the green wind approached the tornado, it was as if it was being pulled in, easily engulfed and swallowed by the tornado, disappearing in the blink of an eye.

The tornado swept in, lifting the Flying Boat and hurling it towards the center of the vortex.

"Not good! This tornado is too powerful; we cannot withstand it, retreat quickly!" Yan Xiang shouted.

No need for his reminder, Lei He had already seen the situation on the lake, and his hands moved quickly to change the spell.

Dragon-shaped bolts of lightning surged from the boat, tearing through the surrounding wind and retreating towards the shore.

Fortunately, the three had just entered the lake, and the Flying Boat quickly returned to the shore.

The moment the trio returned to the lakeshore, all the wind and tornadoes on the lake disappeared, along with the clouds in the sky, as if they had never appeared.

"It seems that the tornado was a restriction set over the lake to prevent anyone from approaching the Immortal Mountain," Lei He took a deep breath, slowly speaking.

"Perhaps it is a trial, since it is an Immortal Mountain, naturally it will not allow us to approach casually," Yuan Ming added.

"Yuan makes sense, but according to your view, how should we pass this trial?" Yan Xiang looked over.

"With two seniors present, how could I, a mere Core Formation cultivator, dare to show off? I completely defer to both of you to make decisions," Yuan Ming replied with a smile.

"In that case, please Yuan, try entering the lake," Yan Xiang said coldly, not mincing his words.

At this, Yuan Ming raised an eyebrow.

"Ahem, Fellow Daoist Yan Xiang, none of us have figured out the exact nature of the lake's restrictions yet, and Yuan is just a Core Formation cultivator. It really might be too dangerous for him to fly in alone," Lei He coughed, trying to persuade him.

"Yuan is no ordinary Core Formation cultivator, his strength is not less than ours. We have both already made our move earlier, and entering now would only result in the same outcome as before. If this tornado really is a trial, it might react differently to Yuan," Yan Xiang said with a light laugh.

"Well..." Lei He faltered, his eyes showing hesitation.

"Fellow Daoist Yan Xiang makes sense, let me give it a try. But if I encounter any danger, I will return immediately, please don't blame me," Yuan Ming said with a brisk smile.

"Of course," Yan Xiang replied indifferently.

Yuan Ming looked towards the lake, not responding further.

Although Yan Xiang had concealed it very well, Yuan's Emotion Manipulation Ability penetrated everywhere, and he still sensed the faint murderous intent constantly rippling in the other's heart.

Lei He seemed apologetic, taking a talisman from his Storage Bag and handing it to Yuan Ming, "We came in a hurry this time and didn't bring much. Here's a Golden Body Protection Talisman. Once activated, it can block a full-force attack from a Nascent Soul cultivator. Just take it."

Yuan Ming accepted the talisman and earnestly thanked, then took a deep breath and flew toward the lake surface.

As soon as he had crossed the lakeshore, the sky darkened instantly again. However, this time, although the wild winds churned on the lake, they did not form a tornado, and the force of the winds was considerably less than before.

Even so, when the ferocious wind struck his face, Yuan Ming still felt as if he were being scraped by knives. Simultaneously, a tremendous force continually pushed his body, driving him toward the shore.

He boosted his Mana to seventy percent, only then maintaining the Protective Spiritual Light around his body, barely isolating the wind as he flew towards Immortal Island.

On the lakeshore, Lei He and another person saw the scene over the lake and both showed delight.

The gusts Yuan Ming faced were strong, but they were far weaker compared to the unstoppable, towering tornado they had faced just moments prior.

"It seems Fellow Daoist Yan Xiang guessed correctly. The Gale Restriction displays different strengths when facing different people," Lei He thoughtfully said.

"Not only that, but the power of that wind pillar was overwhelming, probably because all three of us were on one boat, causing the wind's force to stack. In my opinion, it's better for us to proceed separately from now on," Yan Xiang murmured, looking down as he spoke.

"Indeed, let's also make our move," Lei He said.

But Yan Xiang did not move. Gazing at the struggling figure of Yuan Ming, his eyes flickered and he said, "Yuan has just started and hasn't gone far. We might as well wait until he gets deeper in; there might be other changes."

Upon hearing this, Lei He did not speak, tacitly agreeing with Yan Xiang's suggestion.

Under the watchful eyes of the two men, Yuan Ming struggled onward and quickly flew more than a dozen miles.

At that moment, the void ahead fluctuated, and a palm-sized, crescent-shaped white crystal appeared out of nowhere, exuding an enticing scent.

Despite the turbulent winds around, the white crystal remained unaffected, hanging silently in the air.

"What is this?" Yuan Ming was astonished, but he did not miss the opportunity and waved his sleeve to send a green light sweeping over it.

"That is..." When Yan Xiang saw the white crystal, his eyes immediately brightened, and he hastily plunged into the lake.

Lei He's eyes also lit up, and he steered his tunneling light to catch up, maintaining a distance of several dozen yards between them.

As soon as the two had crossed the lakeshore, they too felt a gust of wind far stronger than what Yuan Ming had encountered, but it was still within their endurance.

Realizing their speculation was correct, they felt greatly reassured and continued their tough journey toward Immortal Mountain against the wind.

The three of them moved forward against the violent wind. Lei He and Yan Xiang, being Nascent Soul cultivators, faced stronger winds than Yuan Ming, but their speed was still significantly faster.

Thus, after the time it takes two sticks of incense to burn, they almost caught up with Yuan Ming simultaneously.

Just then, the void to their left flashed with white light again, and another white crystal appeared.

Red light surged around Yan Xiang's body, and his speed suddenly doubled as he raced toward the white crystal.

Although Lei He transformed into a Purple Thunder trying to snatch it, he was still a step too slow, and the white crystal was grabbed first by Yan Xiang.

As the distance between the two men narrowed to ten yards, a slightly smaller tornado column than before spontaneously appeared, lunging towards them.

Yan Xiang and Lei He were startled and quickly scattered.

However, the tornado column split into two and struck their Protective Spiritual Light.

"Bang," "bang," two loud noises erupted!

Yan Xiang and Lei He were blown away, flying backward a hundred yards before finally stabilizing their forms. Blood dripped from the corners of their mouths, clearly injured by the wind column.

Yan Xiang, unconcerned, flipped his hand to store the white crystal and continued flying forward.

A trace of annoyance crossed Lei He's face, obviously unable to forget the white crystal.

Ignoring his injuries, his body's Lei Guang surged, and he immediately continued forward.

"Senior Lei He, what is this white crystal?" Seeing the two men risking danger to snatch the white crystal, Yuan Ming sent a sound transmission to Lei He.

"Yuan, don't you recognize Dragon Tooth Crystal? It's no wonder, it hasn't appeared for nearly a thousand years," Lei He transmitted back.

"Dragon Tooth Crystal? What is that?" Yuan Ming asked.

"No one knows the exact origin of Dragon Tooth Crystal. It is said to be a substance formed from the condensed dragon Qi after the fall of an Ancient Divine Dragon. This material has little use for cultivators like us but is excellent for feeding spirit beasts. For spirit beasts like snakes or flood dragons, it even has miraculous effects on enhancing Bloodline Power," Lei He quickly explained.

Even as he spoke, he transformed into a Lei Guang and hurriedly chased Yan Xiang.

Yuan Ming's eyes brightened, then dimmed again.

The Dragon Tooth Crystal seemed to be a reward from the Gale Restriction, randomly appearing ahead. His speed was nowhere near Lei He's and Yan Xiang's, so it seemed he would not be able to obtain any.

Still, this was an unexpected fortune. Fortunately, he had managed to secure one already.
