To be fair, Dialan's career can be considered very successful. She works methodically, rewards and punishes appropriately, handles domestic affairs crisply and efficiently, and speaks with elegance on foreign matters, managing to give the Baizhu Autonomous State, which has less than a third-rate civilization's weight, the demeanor of a major power on the interstellar stage.
However, regarding her personal life, Dialan cannot be said to have achieved nothing, but she is certainly impoverished in that aspect.
In the seventeen years of her political career, apart from some scandals with Great Commander Leoz Dominet, who valued and promoted her, she has almost no trace of any close relationships. Whether it was an excellent noble young man, a scholarly faction progeny, an oligarch's heir, or a colonial governor who approached Dialan, they all received the same response: Thank you, not interested, goodbye.
Apart from her sparse romantic life, Dialan's social interactions are also confined to a business-like attitude. Perhaps due to the inherent indifference of the Longevity Breed, Dialan seldom takes the initiative to socialize with anyone.
Of course, there are also rumors: Dialan is actually Leoz's secret girlfriend. The reason given is that they graduated from the same university, were in the same department and class, not to mention the same undergraduate year. But Leoz soon stepped into society and began large-scale industrial ventures, while Dialan went to study at an advanced academy of the Crystal Tower.
This kind of experience inevitably reminds people of the storyline 'a man working to support his girlfriend's graduate education,' which is so common in life that people unconsciously put Leoz in the role of the provider and even hope for a conclusion to this kind of story.
Looking at the result, people's assumptions have only been half-completed: five years later, Leoz and Dialan met again, but this time as superior and subordinate, employer and assistant, and later further became political partners and national leaders. Perhaps to avoid suspicion, neither intended to take the next step in their relationship.
At least, to ordinary people, this is how it appears.
Dialan doesn't consider the public's gossip strange, because on this planet, she is arguably the most remarkable woman. If she doesn't fancy anyone else, it's evident that only Lord Leoz could catch her eye.
'Leoz…'
Dialan gently fiddled with the picture frame, looking at the flawless and strikingly beautiful person inside, transcending gender and species concepts.
How should she put it?
Even for an emotionally indifferent Longevity Breed like her, to say that she has no reaction facing Leoz would be pure deception. She recognized Leoz's Charm early on, something akin to Magic; even if one couldn't capture his beauty, they would be drawn to his aura, and even if they didn't care about appearance, they would be infected by the emotions naturally conveyed in his words.
No one could dislike Leoz. If someone were weak-willed, they might even forgive Leoz if he intended to kill them.
Even she herself—
Clack.
Dialan set down her pen and sighed.
'What am I thinking? There are still many things left undone.'
For whatever reason, she should not let herself get distracted during working hours.
Since the Empire uncovered the [Society] attack, the Narrative Civilization temporarily put aside their past conflicts, began uniting and cooperating, and, for some reason, the conglomerate started opening the green light for the Autonomous State, forming alliances and aiding construction, treating them as allies.
The Baizhu Autonomous State developed swiftly, at times finding itself short of bureaucrats. Many matters could not be solved solely by artificial intelligence, so as the government leader, a large amount of work piled onto Dialan.
Day after day of monotonous work is a torment for anyone, and Dialan is no exception.
Amusingly, when Leoz was still President, despite being a hands-off leader, he strangely didn't need to put much effort. Often, just by standing there, His Excellency the President would read a few formulaic greetings, and things would be resolved.
At first, they thought it was due to [Sovereign] Pathway reasons, so they tried recruiting some charm-exuding Mutants.
They recruited seven; three resigned halfway, two found life boring, resigned to become terrorists in Valkyrie, one fled to the Narrative Civilization, and another, while without issues, had a rather chaotic private life—with over a hundred girlfriends by the age of twenty-six and ended up not coming to work at all.
In hindsight, President Leoz is not merely extraordinarily gifted; in the [Sovereign] Pathway, he seemed oddly normal, leading to suspicion that he might actually be an Ascender of the [Fine Artistry] Pathway.
'It seems I'm particularly tired today, to the point of focusing on my personal matters…'
Dialan quickly finished her tasks and filed the documents, declaring the end of her workday.
Feeling overly exhausted today, she decided to take a long-overdue break.
Ten minutes later, Dialan stepped out from The Gate. She cast an Illusion Technique, transforming herself into an ordinary rural woman, without bringing any assistants or bodyguards, and ventured through the forest, entering the hall of the once-abandoned ruins.
Although initially, this site had been converted into a village center by Players, it has since faced abandonment with the relocation of the center to the capital. Everything in sight was limited to some tables, chairs, benches, and various notices like 'today's task' and 'villager commissions,' recording traces of the Descenders' past lives.
