The Lord Demon King is Unfathomable!

Chapter 337: The Holy Shadow in the Cup_5

The nobleman did not look at her, so the girl bit her pale lips and took out a purse from her bosom, her fingers trembling slightly.

"I... I'll return the money to you... I'm sorry, my brother is still a child, please direct any issues at me."

White looked at his sister in surprise.

"Diona, you..."

Luo Yan chuckled and said.

"In my eyes, you're all children, and I have no interest in children. However—returning it voluntarily is a wise decision. This money could be a big trouble for you."

As he spoke, Luo Yan gently waved his magic wand, the purse string untied, and a string of gold coins flew out of the purse, landing in his hand, and were instantly stored in the storage ring.

The children were all amazed to see this, especially the girl named Diona, whose face turned pale and her eyes became more fearful.

She had only felt the purse was heavy and ran without looking at it, not realizing it was filled with gold coins!

A single gold coin could buy a house on this street or purchase her feather-light life!

No doubt—

She had no chance to spend the money; anyone who saw the gold coin would assume she was a thief and would seize it without worry of the guards coming after them.

"You can keep the remaining silver and copper coins, but don't steal things next time; after all, everyone's luck runs out eventually, and not everyone is as easygoing as I am."

Looking at the cautious-eyed children, Luo Yan smiled and continued in a gentle tone.

"There's still some time before my banquet begins. In return, can you tell me your stories? And what kind of place is this? Are you child laborers working here? Helping Mr. Dinger Kajuna?"

The boy named White first regained his composure, lightly patted the dust from his clothes, and nodded respectfully.

"No, sir, Mr. Dinger Kajuna is a good man, without him we would have starved long ago."

Luo Yan looked at him, motioning for him to continue.

White hesitated, glanced at the house behind them, and continued.

"This is his mechanical workshop; he used to tinker with machines at the Imperial Royal Navy Academy, but was outcast due to differing opinions. Later, a baron took him in... seems like his name is Mitiya?"

Mitiya?

Hearing this familiar surname, Luo Yan's expression was slightly surprised. He hadn't expected the artist so enamored with art to also sponsor charitable causes; he had never seen it.

But thinking about it, it's actually quite normal, as in Hell, it's mostly the Acolytes who are taking in homeless children.

But he was actually more curious about another matter.

"Doesn't the church in the Holy City have welfare organizations? I heard the Hillfin family took in many... people like you."

White smiled bitterly, sighed, and said.

"Yes, there indeed are such places, but they require the Holy Scripture."

"What is that?"

Before White could open his mouth, his sister Diona, with her head lowered and voice hoarse, said.

"Simply put, it's native status. Our parents hailed from Pierce Province, farther than the White Dew District in the Holy City; it takes about a week by ox cart heading north along the peninsula."

Afterwards, she resentfully continued.

"And even if we reached there, it would be useless. Our father died on the front line, and mother deserted us, disappeared. We can't prove where we belong, nor that we're homeless. Those people wish for us troublesome folks to die on the road, preferably not to bother Saint Sis..."

She couldn't understand.

Why did the city bathed in Holy Light reject her and her brother, born here, simply because her parents weren't born here, when their father clearly died for the Imperial cause?

Is it because of poverty?

They clearly have so much wealth now!

Moreover, their father has a blood share in that wealth.

She didn't want much, just for her only family to live a normal life, like the busy and fulfilling ordinary people in this city.

"Don't say that, sister, I don't think it's Saint Sis's intention." White glanced nervously at the noble man and said, trembling with fear.

He felt nothing towards his sister's complaint; the conciliatory words were purely for practical consideration—more than futile complaints, he was worried these words would anger the Holy Light Nobles and worsen their already terrible situation.

After all, Luo Yan was not a Holy Light Noble; even if he was, he wouldn't be angry but rather looked at the little girl with interest.

Her resentment was not merely self-pity but carried a ting of something special.

If the Extraordinary Power was in the hands of someone like Arthur Aber, Luo Yan had no doubt he would live by his beliefs, making the Holy City better than yesterday with all his might... because this was his home.

But if she held the Extraordinary Power, Luo Yan feared she would mercilessly use this force to burn the entire city to ashes, seeking no return.

If Chaos set its eyes on her, she would be a natural vessel.

Unfortunately, Chaos was too busy, with too many more deserving souls in this world to sow seeds in that it overlooked this young and unnoticed seed.

Perhaps sensing a similar aura, even the expressionless Sarah looked at the child twice, with a hint of surprise in her eyes.

She seemed to see herself before meeting Lord Demon King—with intense hatred towards everything in Thunder City.

Only that she was a Demon, inherently not human, and hence her hate was understandable. But for a human to hate other humans to such an extent, it was rather unusual.

Luo Yan was about to say something when a cough suddenly came from behind him.

"Sir, please wait a moment. For my sake, could you let these children go? Their fathers were good men who sacrificed for the Imperial cause; it truly wasn't their intention to fall to such plight. If they offended you, I am willing to apologize on their behalf—"

His voice suddenly stopped, filled with surprise.

"Wait, Prince Colin?!"

"What are you doing here?!"
