Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 460: A New Case (Part 2)

"We sent it to the auction house for auction, it should be worth around a million."

Little Black said, "You and Walker could each get about five hundred thousand US Dollars?"

"The auction house will also take a commission, so each person gets over four hundred thousand US Dollars."

Little Black widened his eyes, "Oh my God, why be a cop? Just go be a full-time treasure hunter."

Luke shook his head, "Treasure hunting isn't that easy, a lot of times it's sheer luck. Walker and I have stable jobs, so our mindset when treasure hunting is solid and calm. If we really resigned to become professional treasure hunters, the initial motivation for treasure hunting would change, and certain things might get complicated."

Luke wasn't being pretentious; take this treasure hunt for example, there were many copies of the treasure map. Before he and Walker arrived at Red Rock Canyon, someone had already found the treasure. Normally, they wouldn't even find a penny.

Their ability to get the treasure came down to luck and a bit of force; while making some extra money occasionally is fine, relying on it to make a living would starve you.

Little Black remained curious and pursued further, "Luke, where did you go treasure hunting? Tell us about the process."

Luke didn't hold back and started to describe the parts he could, "Last time, Walker and I got one treasure at Big Bear Lake, and inside the treasure chest, there was another treasure map.

I studied it for a few days but couldn't get it figured out, so I gave it to Walker.

That old man really loves treasure hunting, and he guessed the location on the map, which was in Red Rock Canyon, Colorado.

Recently, Walker bought an RV, so we drove the RV there…"

Luke spoke, and everyone listened intently; nobody could remain indifferent to treasure.

The room only had Luke's voice, and as he recounted the treasure hunt experience, everyone showed signs of envy—not just for his gain, but also for his adventurous journey.

"Knock knock."

A knock came from outside, followed by the office door opening and Deputy Director Reid walking in.

"Whoa, having a meeting are we?" Reid observed everyone sitting together.

Luke nodded and casually said, "Yes, Director, what's up?"

"There's a new case, a male body was discovered in the Los Angeles outskirts."

...

An hour later, Luke led the team to the Los Angeles suburbs.

The scene was not far from the road, with several police cars parked by the roadside, and the area was cordoned off.

It was a dirt road where tire tracks were visibly present; the tech team had also arrived to collect tire prints.

Luke continued forward and saw signs of digging in the dirt nearby, with a large pit beside which lay a man's body.

It was a Caucasian male wearing a leather jacket with several round bullet holes in it.

Luke felt the deceased was likely shot, and upon closer inspection, he found the man's face somewhat familiar...

Not far away, Little Black was taking notes for the informant.

Little Black eyed the young Caucasian male around twenty years old and pointed to the nearby Tesla, "Is that your car?"

"Yes."

"Nice car."

"Sure is, it's awesome."

"Buddy, you were the one who called the police last night?"

"Yes."

"What's your name?"

"Tom Carter. Just call me Tom."

"Tom, when did you find the body?"

"Around midnight."

"Was it just you there at the time?"

"I was with my girlfriend, just the two of us."

Little Black inquired further, "What were you doing here?"

"On a date."

Little Black squinted, "Nice choice, it's a great spot for a date. How did you find the body?"

"We were sitting in the car when my girlfriend felt there was someone outside; I got out to check and saw the big pit, and inside..." Tom sighed, "I really don't want to recall."

Little Black confirmed, "So you're saying there was someone else outside the car at the time?"

"I don't know; my girlfriend wasn't sure either, maybe."

"A man or a woman?"

"She didn't see clearly, just a shadow. I made a bad choice of place and ruined the date." Tom sighed again.

Little Black comforted him, "Buddy, don't let it bother you, you can always schedule another time."

John lowered his voice, slightly troubled, "I… I can't now."

"What?" Little Black was somewhat puzzled.

"Just like you think. Since last night, after being scared… it's like over-cooked spaghetti... Oh God, I'm going crazy."

"Ahem..." Little Black barely restrained his laughter, "Does your girlfriend know?"

"No, I can't tell her, she'd dump me."

"Then why are you telling me?"

"You're a detective, you must see bodies often.

I wanted to ask if you ever faced something similar, any solutions?"

"Sorry, I haven't had that experience." Little Black glanced at his colleagues, no, definitely not.

"Buddy, I'm really sorry for you, you should see a psychologist." Little Black patted his shoulder and whispered, "Or maybe try Viagra."

Tom "..."

I'm only nineteen!

Luke's voice came from nearby, "Marcus, done with the notes?"

"Yes, I'll be there." Little Black replied, then said to Tom, "Buddy, good luck to you."

Little Black walked to Luke's side, "Captain, any instructions?"

"Take a look at this body."

At that moment, the forensic doctor had removed the body from the pit.

Little Black stepped forward to observe, "This guy got shot a bunch; the killer clearly wanted him dead. Wait, this guy looks familiar..."

Little Black examined closely, "Oh Lord, he looks like Harry Sabo."

Luke said, "I initially just thought so too; now that you've recognized it, there should be no mistake."

Little Black displayed a shocked expression, "This guy actually got shot and buried!

If Julian finds out… no no no, this absolutely can't be known to Julian, at least wait until she gives birth."

The deputy came closer, "Marcus, what's your relationship with this unfortunate soul, should you avoid a conflict of interest?"

Little Black shook his head, "No need, I'm not close to him, just met once or twice or two or three times..."

The deputy interrupted him, "Stop giving me that nonsense; what's your actual relationship with him?"

Little Black shrugged, "He's Julian's ex-boyfriend."

"Whoa…" The deputy widened his eyes and joked, "So you're saying you've got a motive; should I take your statement?"

Little Black pursed his lips, "You're mistaken, I have no motive. He was just a loser, poses no threat to me.

Anyone could've killed him, except me."

The deputy glanced at Luke beside him, "Do you know this fellow too?"

Luke nodded, remembering Harry Sabo quite clearly; this guy was part of the racing gang.

It was the first case he investigated upon arriving in Los Angeles, with David as his partner at the time. David to gather intelligence, created a ruckus among the racing gang, and beat this guy up, then 'persuaded' him to become a police informant.

Luke wasn't sure if this lad had any contact with David; however, he ought to inform David out of both reason and emotion.

The deputy dusted his hands off the dirt and asked Little Black, "Anything discovered from the complainant's statement?"

"He was here with his girlfriend for a date, when she saw someone outside the car; he got out to check, saw nobody but found the body in the pit; it scared the poor devil." Little Black explained.

"So, there was a third person present at the time." The deputy pondered.

Little Black nodded, analyzing, "Right, I suspect the suspect was in the act of digging a pit to bury the corpse, happened to be seen by the dating couple, and fled to avoid exposure."

The deputy glanced at the pit and shook his head, "I just checked the surroundings of the corpse, the soil isn't loose, indicating it's not for burying.

More like unearthing the body."
