Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 479: Rejoining the Team

Three o'clock in the afternoon.

The plane arrived at Los Angeles International Airport, and Luke and Orty parted ways at the airport.

Luke drove straight to the detective bureau.

Up to now, there have been two kidnapping cases in Los Angeles. The first kidnapping occurred on the night of March 10, when the son of real estate tycoon Gary Sane was kidnapped on a yacht. Luke saw this news on the morning of March 11, and his understanding of the case was limited to what he saw in the news.

The second kidnapping case occurred on the night of March 11. The daughter of wealthy Bruce Redman was kidnapped, and it was he who requested the police station to have Luke involved in the investigation. However, Luke was vacationing in Hawaii at the time, and they had to pay the Pinkerton Detective Agency a lobbying fee of one million US Dollars, which is how Orty personally invited Luke back to Los Angeles.

As of today, it is already March 14, and the best timing for a kidnapping case has been missed. This is why Luke went to the police station first thing after getting off the plane.

Every minute of delay adds to the danger for the hostage.

...

Robbery and Murder Department Office.

Reid sat at his desk, closed the file folder in his hand, took a sip from the coffee on the table, and said, "Matthew, get me the list of car owners who drove past the kidnapping site between 2 AM and 4 AM."

"I have it here." The deputy tossed over a folder and laughed, "Reid, working with you feels great, almost like twenty years ago."

Reid laughed, "If we could really go back twenty years, I think I could overcome the difficulties of working with you, haha."

The deputy complained, "Difficulties, what difficulties could there be working with me? Also, why are you here in our office?

Do you think that without Luke, we can't solve the case?"

"No, that's not what I mean. I just don't want to let the victims' families down and do my part.

After all, this case was originally investigated by the FBI, but they chose the detective bureau.

However, the investigation of the case has not progressed." Reid shrugged.

The deputy's momentum weakened, stubbornly said, "The case will soon make progress, trust me."

Reid looked at his watch, "You don't have much time left..."

The deputy frowned and retorted, "What kind of nonsense is that?"

Reid didn't answer.

A few minutes later, the door to the office was pushed open, and Luke walked into the squad's office.

"Hi, guys, good afternoon."

"Captain, you're back!" Jackson said excitedly.

Little Black opened his arms, "Hey, welcome home. Did you have fun in Hawaii? This year I plan to take my family on a trip to Hawaii."

"It was okay, just didn't have enough time to enjoy."

The deputy sighed silently, having missed another chance to shine.

He also understood Reid's earlier words.

Luke said to Reid, "Chief, you're here too? I was about to go to your office to find you."

"Honestly, I kind of miss my office too." Reid glanced at the deputy, stood up, and asked, "Now that the case of Bruce Redman's daughter being kidnapped is under our investigation, are you ready to take over?"

"Of course." Luke nodded and said, "But before that, I want to know why the FBI isn't involved in this investigation?

That's not typical of them."

Reid nodded, "Good question. Before Bruce Redman's daughter was kidnapped, another real estate tycoon's child, Gary Sane's son, was kidnapped.

That case was investigated by the FBI, but as you can see, Gary Sane's son was kidnapped on the night of March 10 and appeared in news reports by the morning of the 11th.

The whole of Los Angeles knew that Gary Sane's son had been kidnapped.

No matter which channel leaked the information, the FBI had to take the blame.

This is also why Bruce Redman didn't want the FBI to handle the case. If the news of Bruce Redman's daughter's kidnapping is also leaked, the kidnapper is likely to kill her.

So, Bruce Redman wants the Los Angeles Police Department to investigate his daughter's kidnapping."

Luke said, "Does this mean Anthony is in trouble?"

"It depends on whether he can rescue Gary Sane's son." Reid sighed gently, thinking this was unlikely. Now that all of Los Angeles knows Gary Sane's son was kidnapped, how could the kidnapper not know that the FBI or police have already intervened? The possibility of continuing negotiations is slim.

The most likely scenario is that Gary Sane's son is killed outright.

Luke pursued, "Are the two cases related?"

Reid said, "The timing of the two cases is close, one on the night of March 10, and another on the night of March 11.

Additionally, Gary Sane's son was kidnapped on a yacht, where we found a blood letter V.

The kidnapper who took Bruce Redman's daughter also called himself Mr. V during the ransom call.

Therefore, we suspect there may be a link between the two cases."

The deputy continued, "Actually, the biggest possibility is that Mr. V kidnapped Gary Sane's son, found out Gary Sane reported to the police, and it was all over the news. He felt the risk of the transaction was too high. So he chose to kidnap a second hostage, Bruce Redman's daughter."
