Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 491: Fake?

After handling the FBI business, Luke drove to the police station.

As he walked into the squad room, he ran into Little Black carrying a coffee cup.

Little Black teased, "Captain, I saw you on the news. Just one night has passed, and you've cracked another kidnapping case. You're practically the Sherlock Holmes of Los Angeles."

"I wanted to keep a low profile, but Anthony insisted on pulling me in for an interview." Luke shrugged, showing a look of 'I really didn't want to boast'.

Jackson asked curiously, "Captain, you've been investigating Isa Redman's kidnapping case with us the whole time, without even having time to sleep.

Why did Anthony say you provided the key clue for the case?"

"This story goes back a bit. At that time, I was on vacation in Hawaii when Director Reid called about the kidnapping case, asking if I could return to Los Angeles to participate in the investigation.

I didn't agree right away; I needed to discuss it with my family.

After talking with my family, although they were a bit reluctant, they still supported my return to Los Angeles to investigate the case.

And right at this time, my documents placed in the hotel were stolen.

I assisted the local police in catching the thief. She claimed she was instructed to steal my documents at the hotel.

I sketched the person's portrait.

Initially, I thought the person in the sketch was related to Isa Redman's kidnapping case, and I even asked Isa Redman's parents, but they didn't recognize the person in the portrait.

Later, I handed the sketch to Anthony, who found the person in the portrait. After interrogation, it turned out he was hired by Little Gary Sane's mother.

Then, we followed this clue and found Little Gary Sane."

Little Black retorted, "Why did Little Gary Sane's mother want to stop you from returning to Los Angeles? And you said 'found' rather than 'rescued.' Is there more to this case?"

Luke said, "You're right; this case wasn't a real kidnapping. Little Gary Sane killed a woman at a party and orchestrated this kidnapping drama to avoid police investigation.

The FBI is now searching the ocean for the woman's body."

Little Black smirked, "It's a sad story, but I'm not surprised these things happen to the rich."

Luke scanned the office, "Where's the deputy? Why don't I see him?"

Jackson replied, "I was just about to report to you.

Sofia's stepmother, Kelly Lax, came in.

Also, I found the babysitter who took care of Sofia.

Since you weren't here, the deputy went to find Director Reid.

They're taking Kelly Lax and the babysitter to see Sofia now."

Little Black laughed, "Should we go take a look?"

Luke yawned, "If you want to go, go ahead. I don't like those kinds of scenes."

Luke headed back to the captain's office, planning to get some sleep.

...

Inside a meeting room at the Robbery and Murder Department.

Jenny opened the door to the meeting room and brought Sofia over to the table, unlocking her handcuffs.

Jenny warned, "Hey, there are cops outside. Don't try to run, be smart."

Sofia rubbed her wrist, "I've told you everything I know. What are you up to now?"

Jenny softened her tone, "We're not here to interrogate you today, but to let you meet two people."

"Who?"

"You'll know in a while."

Soon after, the meeting room door opened again, and the deputy and Reid walked in, followed by two women, one of whom was 'Sofia's' stepmother, Kelly Lax, and the other was a middle-aged Asian woman.

With four people entering at once, Sofia's face showed wariness, her eyes moved past the deputy and Reid, and landed on Kelly Lax and the Asian woman.

At the same time, Kelly Lax and the Asian woman kept their eyes on Sofia as well.

Reid called out, "Everyone, have a seat and talk."

The Asian woman sat across from Sofia, staring at her without blinking, and asked softly, "What's your name?"

"Sofia."

The Asian woman seemed moved, "Child, do you recognize me?"

Sofia shook her head, "No.

But your voice feels very familiar."

"My name is Sara Santos. Do you remember my name? Think carefully."

Sofia pinched her forehead, thinking for a moment, "I really can't remember." Sofia asked back, "Do you know me? In my memory, I haven't met you."

The deputy quietly reminded Sara Santos, "Sofia suffered a head injury and forgot everything before she was ten."

"Oh my God, that's terrible." Sara Santos's eyes reddened, looking at Sofia with pity, "Can I see your right arm?"

Sofia's expression was complex, having an inkling of something. After a moment of hesitation, she rolled up her sleeve, revealing her right arm.

Sara Santos grabbed Sofia's arm, noticing a scar on her forearm, "Yes, it's exactly this spot. As a child, you were a bit tomboyish, and when you saw others skateboarding, you wanted to try it too.

This scar is from when you fell while learning to skateboard."

"Who exactly are you? How do you know I have this scar? Even I don't know how I got it. Do you know the old me?"

"Yes, ten years ago, I worked as a babysitter at your home, and I often made seafood fried rice. You used to clean your plate every time. Do you remember?"
