Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 510: Threat

Robbery and Murder Department Squad One.

Six o'clock in the evening.

Luke was packing up to leave work.

He packed up his things, walked out of the captain's office, and greeted everyone, "See you tomorrow, guys."

The deputy captain asked, "Are you sure it's tomorrow? I thought you couldn't wait to go on vacation."

Luke smirked. The old man was teasing him again. He didn't even have a wife. Didn't he need to spend time finding one and taking a few more days off? What's the big deal?

"Knock, knock..." There was a knock on the door outside.

"Come in."

"Creak..." The door opened.

Reid pushed the door open and came in, followed by a white man.

This man was distinctive, tall with a square face, wearing a neat black suit, but somehow it seemed out of place.

"Everyone, let me introduce you. This is Dansri Cobbs, Assistant Director of Homeland Security." Seeing everyone looking confused, Reid said to Jenny on the side, "Jenny, please take Assistant Director Cobbs to the lounge."

"Alright.

sir, follow me." Jenny stood up and led Dansri Cobbs into the lounge.

Watching the pair enter the lounge, Luke walked over to Reid and asked softly, "Chief, what's the situation?"

Reid explained, "The Department of Homeland Security has taken over the bombing attack case and hopes to get the case files from us."

"Then why didn't you tell us in advance?"

"I didn't expect them to come so quickly either."

Luke confirmed, "Do we really have to hand over the files?"

Reid shrugged.

Luke walked over to Jackson's desk, "Make a copy of the case files and take the originals to the lounge."

"Got it, captain."

Reid glanced at his watch, "Okay, since you're up to speed, I'm off."

Luke pointed to the lounge, "Aren't you going to help with the introductions?"

"I believe... you'll get along well." Reid's tone was a bit evasive as he turned and left the Robbery and Murder Department.

Luke didn't want to do it either, so he looked at the deputy captain, "Deputy, I have a date later. How about you handle it?"

"Don't even think about it. They won't care about a deputy captain; you'll have to do it yourself," the deputy seemed unwilling too.

No competent police officer wants to hand over a case they're working on.

With the deputy not willing to help, Luke had no choice but to personally go into the lounge for the introduction.

He pushed open the conference room door and said to Dansri Cobbs, "Captain of Robbery and Murder Department Squad One, Luke Lee."

Dansri Cobbs stood up, shook hands with Luke, "I saw you on the news, Captain Lee. You're quite photogenic."

Luke shrugged, "Everyone says I'm even better in person."

"Perhaps," Dansri Cobbs shrugged, wanting to change the subject, "Okay, let's talk about the terrorist attack case."

"How much does Homeland Security know about this case?"

Dansri Cobbs said, "More than you think."

Luke felt the other was bluffing, "Like what? Something I don't know?"

"Sorry, the LAPD is no longer in charge of the terrorist attack case, so there are some things I can't disclose."

"Do you think Tapani Reagan had accomplices?" Luke wanted to probe if he knew about the threat video from this afternoon.

Dansri Cobbs thought for a moment, "Tapani Reagan's purpose in orchestrating the terrorist attack was to threaten the U.S. government into releasing Middle Eastern terrorist leaders. From that perspective, Tapani Reagan likely belonged to an organization, so I wouldn't be surprised if he had accomplices."

Luke wasn't satisfied with this answer, feeling that Dansri Cobbs was stringing him along and obviously just brushing him off.

Luke continued to probe, "Do you think Tapani Reagan's accomplices will continue to carry out terrorist attacks?"

"It's very possible."

"I killed Tapani Reagan and foiled their plan to bomb the city hall. Do you think they'll retaliate against me?"

"I don't know, which is why the LAPD's early withdrawal from the terrorist attack investigation was wise. The higher-ups might have considered this reason."

Luke laughed, "Assistant Director Cobbs, it's been a pleasure talking to you."

Dansri Cobbs laughed, "Everyone says that."

"Creak..." The door opened.

Jackson walked in, "Captain, I brought the files for the terrorist attack case."

Luke gestured towards the opposite side, indicating for him to give them to Dansri Cobbs.

Dansri Cobbs took the documents and said to Luke, "I'd like to use your lounge to review the files. If I have questions, I can ask you directly."

Luke glanced at his watch; using the lounge was fine, "But I'm leaving work now. Call me if anything comes up." Luke stood up to leave.

Dansri Cobbs asked, "Captain Lee, did Tapani Reagan say anything before he died?"

"He said he had an accomplice, someone more dangerous than him, so it's best to be careful during your investigation."

"Thanks, we will be careful," Dansri Cobbs implied as he said,

"You too."
