Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 129 Admitting Guilt (Two Chapters in One)_3

Elizabeth stepped forward to thank him, and the two struck up a conversation.

Lucas even invited her to visit the movie set, offering her the opportunity to mingle with big stars, and she happily accepted.

At first, they talked about Courtney, and later the conversation shifted to movies.

Lucas, with his extensive experience in film-making and gift for gab, regaled her with amusing and challenging anecdotes from the shooting process, swiftly captivating Elizabeth.

He was mature, charming, and wealthy.

At her age, she had no defense against celebrities, dreaming every night of becoming Cinderella.

She had also seen the movie "Brazilian Lover," directed by Lucas, and thought she knew him quite well.

Lucas had brought a bottle of red wine from the camp, and the two of them went to a cabin on the set to drink and chat, the atmosphere growing ever more wonderful.

Lucas was a smooth talker and quickly had Elizabeth wrapped around his finger.

The two of them ended up playing poker in the cabin.

Afterward, Elizabeth went to the restroom and heard Lucas's phone ring.

Not wanting to disturb him, she waited outside.

Lucas treated the call with great importance, speaking politely. Due to the noisy music of the party, he even switched on the speakerphone.

Elizabeth could overhear the conversation.

As she listened, something felt off to her.

Lucas was feeling unwell.

They would shoot the stunt double's scenes first.

Who was Abu Gela?

Elizabeth's expression grew uglier by the second as she pulled out her phone, searched for videos of Lucas, and, after careful comparison, noticed differences.

The man before her resembled Lucas.

But upon closer scrutiny, she could see discrepancies.

Elizabeth realized she might have been fooled.

She was furious, feeling insulted.

She thought about calling the police.

But would that be of any use?

The man had never claimed to be Lucas; it was she who had assumed he was, and he simply hadn't objected, refused, or explained.

Besides, she disliked police and had no trust in them.

She decided to take revenge herself, to give this man a lesson and make him experience the feeling of being deceived.

Elizabeth was a clever girl and quickly concocted a plan.

She returned to the cabin and, under the pretense of playing something exciting, skillfully tied up Abu Gela with a rope. She then found a prop dagger in the storage cabinet.

As 'Lucas' relaxed, enjoying himself, Elizabeth took out the dagger and pressed him to reveal his identity.

'Lucas' initially denied everything, insisting he was Lucas himself.

The expression on 'Lucas's face appeared so sincere that Elizabeth briefly thought she had misunderstood.

She took out her phone, turned on the flashlight, and finally got a clear look at 'Lucas's face.

He closely resembled Lucas.

But he was not Lucas.

At this point, the imposter acknowledged he couldn't hide any longer and confessed he was Lucas's stunt double, Abu Gela.

Fuming with embarrassment and rage, Elizabeth prepared to further punish Abu Gela.

She used the dagger to threaten him, pushing Abu Gela towards the edge of a large pit.

Caught up in her anger, Elizabeth hadn't thought through what she'd do with the charlatan—she only wanted to drive him into the pit and scare him with the threat of being buried alive.

Thinking the crazed woman really intended to bury him alive, Abu Gela naturally refused to submit to such a fate. At the edge of the pit, he fought back fiercely, biting Elizabeth's arm.

Under the pain, Elizabeth instinctively struck Abu Gela on the head with the end of the dagger, but he still refused to let go. That was when she stabbed him in the neck.

Blood spurted out.

Elizabeth was terrified, realizing she had made a grave mistake.

She regretted it.

Even though this man was not the real Lucas, and even though he had deceived her, he was indeed quite handsome.

Fortunately, the music from the distant party was loud, and it didn't alarm the crowd.

Elizabeth decided to bury Abu Gela alive.

At the same time, she threw a bracelet she had found in the cabin into the grave.

She hoped to use this as a way to disrupt the police investigation.

After burying him, Elizabeth found a performer's outfit in the cabin, put it on, and quickly fled the crime scene.

Having recounted the process of the crime, Elizabeth was now crying inconsolably. After all, she was just a seventeen-year-old girl; she belonged to those who kill in passion, not those who plan to kill, without much cunning.

Simma held her daughter and cried loudly, filling the interrogation room with sobs.

...

Luke and the other officer left the interrogation room, and Susan, the deputy team leader, and others also exited the observation room.

"Luke, well done," Susan was very pleased with Luke's recent performance.

Not only was he fierce in making arrests, but he also had a knack for interrogations, a possible candidate for grooming.

Susan still had room for advancement. If she didn't want to be just a captain for life, she needed a suitable successor. Although everyone in the first squad of the Robbery and Murder Department was capable, they each had flaws, and only Luke was somewhat normal.

David was essentially a jerk.

Jenny was of average ability.

Matthew was just a homebody.

Luke had the strongest overall capability and was the only one she considered worth cultivating.

Suddenly, she felt the team should bring in some new blood.

The deputy also came over and patted Luke on the shoulder, "Young man, you did great, you have the style I had back in the day."

The deputy liked to use others' praise to compliment himself, and it was his greatest form of recognition.

In his words, Assistant Chief Reid had gradually risen to the upper echelons of the detective bureau through such passive praise.

David put his arm around Jenny's shoulder, "This case should serve as a reminder for you. From now on, stop fooling around with women."

Jenny earnestly replied, "That's old news, I've already changed."

David didn't believe it, "A dog can't change its habit of eating shit."

Jenny retorted loudly, "I'm not a dog, now I only love one woman, Julian."

David nodded, "Good, I'll remember your words. If you break up with Julian or cheat on her, I'll beat you up."

Jenny complained, "Why? You're not even close to Julian, nor are you her brother or dad, why threaten me like this?"

"You're right, from today on, I'll start thinking of Julian as a sister." David pointed at Jenny with his index and middle fingers of the right hand, "I'll be watching you on her behalf."

"Whoa..." Jenny felt a bit annoyed inside but didn't dare to confront David head-on, falling behind a few steps. He turned to Luke and asked, "Why does he want to do that?"

Luke shook his head, "Don't think too much about it, he's just looking for an excuse to beat you up, purely."

Jenny pouted, "How do you know that?"

Luke laughed, "I've thought about it too."

Jenny "..."
