Xiaohei said, "This guy definitely has a problem."
Luke didn't speak, just quietly watched, according to his previous conjecture, Peter shouldn't be the murderer, but his behavior was also strange.
Ten minutes later, Peter came out of the Detective Agency.
To avoid exposure, Luke and Xiaohei didn't follow him anymore but had David and Jenny drive to follow him.
Luke and Xiaohei then entered the Detective Agency to gather information.
"Hi, what do you need?" As soon as they entered, a plump Black woman, about thirty years old, was sitting at the front desk.
Xiaohei sized her up habitually, "Hey, beautiful, we want to inquire about some things, could you introduce us to some of the detectives here?"
The Black woman said, "Today, the only detective at the Detective Agency is George Dandis, and he's the best we have."
Luke said, "That's him."
Follwoing that, the Black woman led them to an office on the right.
Inside the office sat a man in his forties, the office was somewhat messy, and the man looked disheveled, but fairly handsome, sort of like a matured delicacy.
The man introduced himself, "I'm George, what can I help you with?"
"We'd like you to help us look up someone."
"In what aspect? Work records, criminal records, marital status, or financial background?"
Luke showed Peter's picture, "I need to check this guy."
George glanced at it and smiled, "Who are you guys?"
Xiaohei showed his badge, "lapd. We are investigating a major criminal case; this guy is involved, and we need to know his every move."
George was a bit troubled and sighed, "I have a detective license, this place is legally operated. I don't want any trouble, but I'm also not willing to betray my client."
Luke earnestly said, "George, you are not betraying him, you are helping him. He got involved in a serious criminal case, and he probably doesn't realize the danger he is in. We are here to save him.
Moreover, you should understand the police. Since we are already onto him, we will definitely figure out his purpose for coming here. If you don't tell us, we'll keep our eyes on this Detective Agency until we clear things up.
If you don't want to see us again, you better speak up soon."
George countered, "What would you do if I don't tell you, park a police car outside the Detective Agency for 24 hours?"
Luke nodded, "Good idea."
George fell silent for a moment then pulled out his phone and opened a picture, "He asked me to investigate this person.
Marital status, financial condition, work life, everything."
Luke glanced at the picture and immediately recognized Boris in the photo.
"What have you found out about him?"
"This guy Boris, lived in Los Angeles since he was a kid, now he's a manager at a casino in Las Vegas, financially well-off. He was arrested by the detective bureau for a murder case recently and got bailed out just this morning.
You are right, Peter really got messed up with some savage guys. Just looking at this guy tells you he's not easy to handle."
"When did Peter come to you for the investigation?"
"The day before yesterday, he paid a thousand dollars as a deposit, and today he paid three thousand dollars as the final payment."
Xiaohei raised an eyebrow, "You guys make good money."
"I spent quite a bit to get this information too. Don't have much left, just scraping by. And not all clients are as generous as Peter."
Luke said, "Send me that picture."
"OK." George sent the photo to Luke.
Luke looked at Boris's photo and felt something odd.
The photo was clearly processed, other than the face, everything else was blurred out, seemingly deliberately hiding some information.
Luke was surprised, how did Peter know Boris, when they are supposed to be strangers to each other.
Why was Peter seeking Boris, could it be for revenge?
Or, could Peter be the hidden boss, knowing about the relationship between Boris and Courtney, then killing Courtney?
Luke felt it was necessary to reassess Peter.
This guy might not be as straightforward as he seemed.
...
Following that, Luke reported the investigation to Susan.
Susan also rearranged the tasks.
Susan divided the investigation into two directions; one led by Luke, focusing on Peter.
The other direction was managed by her; Peter left at midnight, Boris arrived at Courtney's house after one in the morning, there might have been someone else visiting Courtney's house within that nearly one hour time difference.
Susan, the deputy team leader, Raymond, and Matthew were responsible for finding this possible third person.
...
Late at night.
Near Peter's house.
In a black Dodge car.
Luke and Xiaohei were tailing.
Since Peter had inquired about Boris, he must have taken some action, so Luke's focus was still mainly on tailing.
Luke and Xiaohai were responsible for the night shift to avoid detection by Peter whom they had frequently interacted with. They watched over him all night, but nothing happened.
In the morning, David and Jenny took over.
...
The following night again was uneventful.
Susan found several cars that had appeared near the community, and the deputy and Raymond were responsible for checking them.
...
It was soon the third night.
At eight in the evening, Xiaohei sat in the car yawning.
To keep from being discovered by Peter, they switched to a Chevrolet.
"Luke, it's been three days already, do we continue to keep watching?"
