Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 158: Clue_2

"I am the most wronged person here."

David cursed, "Bullshit. You threw a young woman's corpse into the sea to feed the fish, yet you have the nerve to say you're wronged, you shameless bastard."

Jenny walked over with handcuffs, and handcuffed Robbin's hands, "You know what? I rarely agree with him, but this time I think he's making a lot of sense.

You are indeed a bastard."

Luke reminded them, "Be careful when you make the arrest, the killer might still be in the bar; it's best not to let him notice the police's actions."

Raymond took a shirt from the sofa and covered Robbin's wrists, "That'll do."

Raymond and Jenny escorted Robbin out.

Luke left the private room, stood on the second floor, and watched them leave, making sure no one caused trouble.

Then, he scanned the bar for riffraff, looking for Little Black and the reporter Pari Jones. When he didn't find them, he wasn't concerned, but when he did, he got quite a shock.

Little Black was wearing a silver mask and drinking at the coffin-shaped bar next to Pari Jones; they seemed to be enjoying their conversation.

Luke was a bit speechless; this unreliable guy was supposed to keep an eye on her, not hit on her.

"What's up?" David asked.

"Nothing, let's go find Archibald."

"What about Marcus?"

"Never mind him." After all, he was just a spare piece, Luke didn't pay much attention to him.

...

Outside the bar, surveillance room.

"Knock, knock." Luke knocked on the door but got no response.

He turned the handle, and the door wasn't locked.

Inside, a Black security guard with headphones on was dancing, keeping the beat while shaking his booty, quite good at entertaining himself.

The Black security guard saw Luke and another, took off his headphones, and asked, "Who are you? Why are you breaking into the surveillance room?"

Luke flashed his badge, "LAPD. Are you Archibald Douglas?"

The security guard looked stunned and stammered, "Is there a problem?"

"Just answer my question."

"Yes... I am."

Luke examined Archibald Douglas. He was the first known person to have discovered the victim and was most likely the one to have killed her.

Luke showed him a photo of the deceased, "Do you recognize her?"

"Wow... is she dead?" Archibald's voice trembled a bit; he only glanced at the photo before quickly averting his gaze.

"Archibald, did you kill her?"

"No, how could I possibly do something like that?"

"But as far as we know, her death is greatly related to you."

"I don't know what you mean?" Archibald took two steps back and sat down in a chair.

Seeing him panic, Luke pressed on, "Last night, you dressed up as a zombie and tried to bite the female victim, either wanting to kill her or just to scare her, but it turned out she was so scared that she died on the spot.

Then, to avoid responsibility, you contacted the bar owner Robbin, claiming you found a body outside the bar.

You suggested he dispose of the body quickly.

Robbin then found someone named Dempsey and had you throw the body into the sea together.

You also used this incident to blackmail Robbin, from a parking lot security guard to the surveillance room operator. Am I right?"

Luke's conjecture combined the testimonies of bar owner Robbin and Dempsey, containing both truths and lies, which made it more intimidating.

Archibald got a huge shock and quickly retorted, "No, no, no, it's not what you said, I didn't kill anyone, I really just found her body, I swear to God."

"If you just found her body, why didn't you call the police?"

"I'm a security guard at the bar, the boss pays my salary, and the person died near the bar, of course, I told the boss.

The LAPD isn't paying me." Archibald looked panicked and added, "Besides, if I had killed the person, I would have hidden, not gone to the boss."

Luke pressed on, "Where did you find the victim's body?"

"Behind the bar's back door; there's no surveillance there, I sometimes go there to smoke. That day I just happened to see it, I was scared too, but I saw it as an opportunity.

I admit I wanted a little something for it, nothing more."

"Creak..."

Just then, the door to the surveillance room opened, and Little Black walked in wearing the silver mask, excitedly saying,

"Hi, guys, this bar is more interesting than I thought."

David looked at Marcus in surprise and said, "Where did you go? And where did you get that mask from?"

"Ah, this is a bit of a long story," Marcus said, opening his mouth to reveal a pair of fangs.

David "..."

"Then don't talk about it.

Marcus, stay in the surveillance room and check last night's footage to see if you can spot the victim. I'll take David with me to check out the crime scene with the suspect, is that okay?" Luke worried that taking Little Black out might result in that female reporter spotting him.

"No, you guys go ahead, leave this to me," Little Black promised, patting his chest confidently.

Afterward, Luke and David left the surveillance room with Archibald, exiting through the back door of the bar.

The alley behind the bar was dimly lit, with dirty water on the ground and a few cars parked not far away. There was a dumpster nearby, emitting a faint foul odor.

Luke looked around, "Where did you find the body?"

Archibald thought for a moment and pointed ahead, "Right there, about four or five meters from the back door.

She was lying on the ground, eyes wide open, two puncture wounds on the left side of her neck, and blood still on the ground. The scene was terrifying at that time.

I really thought at first that she had been bitten by a vampire."

Luke examined the crime scene carefully but could hardly find any valuable clues, "Where is the bloodstain?"

"It's already been cleaned up."

"Who cleaned it up?"

"I did, but it was the boss, Robbin's orders, he directed it all."

"But according to Robbin, it was you who suggested throwing the body into the sea, and it was also you who volunteered to clean up the scene."

"No, I just told him that I found a body at the back door of the bar, I was scared stiff myself, and I don't have that kind of experience; how could I possibly tell him to throw the body into the sea?" Archibald quickly denied.

Whether it was boss Robbin's direction or Archibald's suggestion, both were suspected of being involved in destroying the crime scene and desecrating the body, and both would be punished by the law. As for who was the mastermind, that would be up to the deputy chief to interrogate at leisure.

It's always good to give the old man something to do.

"Did you see any suspicious people when you found the body?"

"No."

"Were there any other items around when you found the body?"

"I didn't see any."

"Think carefully, a bag, a cell phone, other items that could prove identity?"

Archibald raised his right hand, "No, I swear to God, I really didn't see anything."

Luke sighed softly, looking somewhat displeased.

Honestly, facing the bar owner, Robbin, and Archibald, the police had little reason to show a good face.

This was also why David was a bit irritable.

Investigating a case was never an easy task. Crime scene investigation and evidence collection were crucial, directly related to whether the case could be solved or not.

Now that the crime scene had been cleaned up, any clues that might have been left by the culprit were surely destroyed.

Even if there were still some evidence remaining at the scene, it would be difficult to make it effective in court.

These two, for their own selfish interests, doing such infuriating deeds were, in some ways, more despicable than the killer.

"Ding-a-ling-a-ling…"

Luke's phone rang; it was Little Black's number.

"Luke, I've found a major clue."

"What clue?"

"I was checking the bar's surveillance from yesterday, and I spotted the victim, and there was someone else with her. Moreover, we know this person."

"Who?"

"Laura Pohl."

She is a family member of a victim from the 'Immigration Case.'

Her husband, Badman Pohl, was a driver for Congresswoman Layli Harry. He and the congresswoman were filmed by the killer playing poker and then extorted.

During the ransom delivery, her husband held back part of the ransom, leading to his murder.

Laura Pohl also became a widow, now living only with her son, Jaden.

Little Black had always taken good care of them both.

Luke was a bit surprised, "Are you sure?"

Little Black spoke confidently, "Of course, I've been in touch with her son Jaden and occasionally see her myself; there's no mistake!"

Luke had also met Laura Pohl a few times.

In his memory, she was just an ordinary housewife, now a single mother.

Why would she be connected to this case?
