Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 161: Marcus II_2

Luke shook his head, "The primary treatment for this disease is bloodletting, but as the condition worsens, the patient develops psychological disorders and mental abnormalities, believing that only by consuming human blood can they regain health. However, human blood does not actually help the body at all.

It only further distorts their minds, leading to depression and despair."

Rock boldly speculated, "That means, this disease could very well be the origin of vampires."

"I find this explanation more credible than vampires." The deputy nodded and continued, "I suggest we investigate people with related symptoms, we might discover some clues."

Susan thought for a moment and instructed, "Matthew, check out the relevant details."

"I understand."

Buzz... Susan's phone rang.

Susan opened the voice video, "Raymond, how are things going on your side?"

Raymond sat in the passenger seat, "We traced the 'vampire' to a cab company, where the suspect boarded a taxi at Dracula Bar at nine thirty-five PM.

He got off around nine fifty at Lamalimont University.

This guy must be a student at the school."

Susan praised, "Good, you guys hurry to the university to investigate, I will send people to support you."

"Yes, captain."

...

After the meeting, David and Rock also rushed to Lamalimont University to assist.

Luke didn't go, feeling that something was off, but he couldn't pinpoint what it was at the moment.

Staying behind, he wasn't idle; he sat silently in his chair, organizing his thoughts on the case, and created a criminal psychological profile for the suspect.

Given the current situation, the suspect was likely to have committed the crime in a fit of passion.

The preparations before the act were not thorough, which is why he was captured by parked vehicles' cameras.

On the other hand, if the murderer chose his victims randomly, it would certainly add difficulty to the investigation.

No matter what state the murderer was in before committing the crime, he was likely quite lucid after the act, as evidenced by his immediate flight.

If it were Luke, he wouldn't run back to his home or place of residence but to somewhere he could easily escape.

The university is a good choice, large in area, crowded, dim at twilight, a change of clothes making it easy to elude pursuit.

The question now arose.

Was the suspect really a student of Lamalimont University, or was he leading the police there on purpose to distract the investigation?

Luke couldn't be sure.

Both were possible.

Since Raymond and the others had already gone to the university to investigate, one more or one less wouldn't make a difference.

Luke decided to investigate from other angles instead.

He continued to check the surveillance footage, but not the footage of the suspect fleeing.

Instead, he reviewed the surveillance of the suspect arriving at the bar.

Since the suspect might have been acting on impulse, he likely wouldn't have disguised his real whereabouts before arriving at the bar.

Thus, doing a reverse investigation, Luke felt, would be more accurate.

Dracula Bar opens at eight PM, and Luke reviewed the surveillance around that time to look for the suspect's traces.

Although the footage didn't clearly show the suspect's face,

identifying him by his clothing and build wasn't difficult.

Luke started reviewing the surveillance, rewinding the time…

He found the first appearance of the suspect in the video footage, at seven fifty-five PM, the suspect was in the parking lot next to the bar.

He was driving a black Honda sedan.

The suspect had a car!

This further corroborated Luke's earlier suspicion that the suspect had some anti-surveillance awareness.

Otherwise, driving away would have been more convenient than taking a taxi.

In other words, the suspect's actual address was likely not Lamalimont University.

Then, Luke found a high-definition photo of the car and got the license plate number.

License plate number, 3teb384

Name, August Toca

Gender, Male

Date of birth, January 2, 1998

Phone number, 626 876 3134

Address, 21 Dovika Street

Social Security number, 623-53-7748

...

Afternoon.

21 Dovika Street, August Toca's residence.

Rock got out of the car, beginning to complain, "I'm your partner; why did you have to investigate on your own secretly?"

Luke explained, "I wasn't investigating secretly; it was just a separate investigation.

At that time, Raymond had already traced the suspect's whereabouts, and I just felt something was off. I couldn't let a vague intuition disrupt the overall investigation.

So, I just stayed back to check the surveillance alone.

"And I found out about August Toca, so I contacted you right away."

"Am I the first?"

"Of course."

"OK, I feel a bit better now."

As the two approached the front door, Black was about to press the doorbell but then hesitated. "We might be facing a vampire, are you sure we don't need to prepare more?"

Luke grinned, "Should we buy some garlic?"

After pondering for a moment, Black said seriously, "There seemed to be a supermarket on the way here, maybe they have some."

At a loss for words, Luke mocked, "There's also a church up ahead in the neighborhood. Should we invite a priest over too? Maybe get you a huge cross?"

Black glanced at his thick lips and pressed the doorbell.

"Ding-dong..."

No response.

"Ding-dong..."

He pressed the doorbell again, still no response.

Luke checked through the window in the garage, saw no car inside, and said, "August Toca is probably not home."

Black asked, "Could he have run away?"

"It's possible." Luke stood at the door, his search warrant at the ready but slightly missing David, who would have had this door opened already.

Black tinkered at the door for a while, "Click."

The door opened.

Luke was surprised, "You can pick locks?"

"Is it that hard?" Black said nonchalantly and walked in.

Luke also entered and closed the door behind him.

"Wow... are we in a vampire museum now? Is that a mural of Dracula?

There's a huge cross here, various fangs, even golden ones.

And there are vampire masks!" Black admired the decorations around the room.

Holding his Glock, Luke said, "Stop looking around, let's search the house first."

Afterwards, they searched the house and found no one.

They then started to examine the house in detail.

The house was filled with vampire-related items, suggesting that the suspect was likely a vampire enthusiast.

Luke had already suspected this, but another reason he examined the room was to look for signs that the suspect might have fled.

...

At seven o'clock in the evening.

A Honda stopped in front of August Toca's house.

A white man stepped out of the car, looked around, quickly opened the door, and entered the house.

The lighting inside was dim, and he suddenly noticed a Black man sitting on the sofa, his back to him.

"Who are you? Why are you in my house?"

The Black man stood up, turned around, revealing two sharp fangs, "I am Marcus II, the second-generation vampire of the Americas. Boy, I smell a familiar scent.

You!

Are you my descendant?"

The white guy was dumbfounded, "Omigod! Omigod! Are you joking?"

The Black 'vampire' sniffed, a look of bliss on his face, "I can smell the scent of human blood on you.

A white woman, in her twenties, but unfortunately... she is no longer a virgin.

The blood of a virgin provides us with true power!"

The white guy stumbled back two steps and fell to the ground, "What are you, man or ghost?"

"Tell me? Am I right? Ha ha…" The Black vampire let out a dark chuckle.

"Yes... I did bite a woman, but I didn't mean to offend you. I'm not a real vampire, please don't hurt me."

"Your name is August Toca?"

"Yes."

Marcus II slowly advanced,

"You!

Want to become a real vampire?"

"No, no, no... don't come any closer, or I'll call the police!" August Toca backed up against the wall, only then remembering to pull out his phone.

"Click!"

Luke turned on the light, worried that Marcus's antics might cause more trouble.

"Ah!"

Seeing another person in the room, the white guy got another shock, "Are you a vampire too?"

Luke flashed his badge, "LAPD!

August Toca, you are under arrest!"
