Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 169 Confession

Luke walked around the farm, but he didn't find any new bloodstains.

Instead, he stumbled upon an interesting situation.

There were a hundred cows on Jefferson's farm, each with a large hole in its body, which was frightening. You could even see the food inside their stomachs directly.

Isn't America always big on animal protection?

What is this operation?

"Buzz buzz..."

A farm tractor drove over. This vehicle was very special, as if it had been modified, with a square pipe on the right side of the vehicle. While moving, it evenly dispensed feed.

Luke watched for a while, the farm's management efficiency was indeed high, greatly saving on labor costs.

The tractor was driven by a middle-aged Caucasian woman, who alone could feed over a hundred cows, and the work didn't seem tiring at all.

Probably this was also why American beef was priced lower.

After feeding the cattle, the white woman got off the tractor.

Luke approached and asked, "Are you Mrs. Casiri?"

"If Jefferson hasn't got another woman out there, then yes, I am." The woman shrugged, glanced at Luke, then at the little black dog, "Are you police too?"

"I am Detective Chief Luke. I'm here to investigate last night's theft case and would like to take a statement from you," he said.

"OK, let's talk outside. Don't disturb these darlings while they're eating; they don't really like strangers," Mrs. Jefferson led the two men out of the cattle ranch.

Mrs. Casiri took off her gloves, "OK, what do you want to ask?"

Luke turned on his law enforcement recorder, "Did you see the thief last night?"

"No, I'm used to going to bed early. I was already asleep when the thief came.

But I heard a gunshot, and by the time I got outside, the thief had already run away without a trace.

He's a lucky guy. If I had seen him, I certainly would have made his face blossom.

I have a large shotgun. It's quite fierce."

The little black dog made an exaggerated expression, "That sounds super cool."

"You're not wrong. There aren't many women like me left. But some guys just don't know how to appreciate.

Men are always like that. They're never content."

The little black dog asked, "I heard that you and Mr. Casiri had an argument last night and kicked him out to sleep outside."

"That stingy guy deserved it. The dishwasher at home was broken; I asked him to buy a new one, and he didn't want to.

Asked him to wash the dishes, and he didn't want to either. In the end, I still had to wash the dishes myself.

Don't you think I should have kicked him out?"

The little black dog nodded, "I'm with you."

"Thanks. By the way, since when do police get involved in domestic disputes?"

Luke noticed little black dog liked to ask questions about marital relationships, leading conversations off-topic. He changed the subject, "Mrs. Casiri, what do you think the thief came to the farm to steal?"

"I don't know. Honestly, there's nothing much of value on the farm apart from the cows."

"How many vehicles do you have?"

"Just a pickup and an SUV; they're parked in the garage up front," Mrs. Casiri countered, "Do you think the thief came to steal the cars?"

Luke countered, "What do you think?"

Mrs. Casiri thought for a moment, "I don't think it's likely. Those cars aren't worth much. What could they do with them?"

Based on Luke's conjecture, it wasn't the price of the cars the thief cared about; he simply wanted a means of transportation.

Mrs. Casiri had no direct contact with the thief and didn't know much.

Luke pointed to the cows in the breeding field, expressing his doubt, "Why do all these cows have a big hole in their backs? Doesn't it hurt them?"

Mrs. Casiri explained, "This is called rumen fistulation. Cows have four stomachs, each with a different function, but there is some gas in one of the stomachs. If this gas isn't eliminated, it can negatively affect the cow.

In the past, researchers conducted such experiments to better observe cow digestion.

Afterward, everyone found such observation very convenient, so they followed suit. This not only solves the gas problem but can also increase the cow's lifespan."

"Thank you."

Luke was aware of bloating in cows but had never before seen this solution, which was completely different from that in his home country.

Mrs. Casiri said, "Is there anything else? If not, I need to get back to work; there's a pile of chores waiting for me."

"Please, go ahead," Luke gestured that she could leave.

The little black dog remarked, "You know what? I'm quite envious of their life. Having a farm of their own, their own land, living freely— that must feel amazing."

Luke patted his shoulder, "First, you need the money to buy a farm."

...

5 PM at the Detective Bureau's meeting room.

Everyone gathered to summarize the case's leads.

Susan, please go over the situation at the crime scene.

"The investigation team also believes that the Volvo's interior wasn't the primary crime scene. No potential weapons were found around the site, nor were there any belongings that could verify the victim's identity.

It's likely the body was dumped there deliberately.

The investigation team also discovered some biological materials at the scene, which are currently being tested further," said Susan, then turned to Luke on the side, "Please share the progress of your investigation."

Luke organized his thoughts before speaking, "After finding the car at the bottom of the cliff, we expanded the search radius hoping to find the primary crime scene.

With the help of bloodhound dogs, we found fresh bloodstains at Jefferson's farm."
